Anyone else getting sick of this idea in football and public life in general that saying sorry is “deeply humbling” or “heartfelt” when in fact it’s part of a nicely crafted media rehabilitation ,or just a quick tweet? . We often see these tweets backed up be blame and obfuscation
The same with “honest assessemnt” this idea that when a manager or player admits his team played badly is more honest than every other interview they did is odd to me .
I get what you’re talking about. The fact that “sorry” in the spotlight is just a politically expedient necessity, a tool to move the narrative on in your favour, rather than genuine regret.
I agree, but it’s the first step, and actions to follow would demonstrate any lessons learned. You’re right that any apology has to be sincere and not include waffle about others being to blame.
