Why did we have to have 4 years of rapid decline before employing a manager that knows what he is doing and letting him get on with it?
Too little, too late?
We will see.
You haven’t forgotten the answer already have you MK? It’s because we have an owner who knows it all, I’m surprised he hired Hill but maybe he finally read a lot of fans were advocating the appointment and decided maybe for once he had better change tack and take on board a second opinion. Sounds fanciful I know because it’s not the narcissistic way but maybe.
February 2, 2022 at 7:06 pm #231291One of the (many) questions this all raises is why did we have to wait until the end of the window? I know a lot of clubs wait until the deadline but at the same time most of our signings are rejects & released players, could they not have come sooner? Like you say, they’re going to take a while to get up to speed and “a while” is something we don’t have!
It might have had something to do with having to get rid of some ‘players’ first. It can’t have been easy.

I remain to be convinced by Hill. He certainly talks a good game and has a decent track record but his scattergun approach to selection & poor results so far are not very encouraging. Here’s hoping he begins to change that on Saturday.

February 2, 2022 at 10:27 pm #231304Lose on Saturday BS and win every other game we will probably just miss out on a playoff place. Get a grip man.
We will say no more regarding your posting Awaywego, I assume that BigLeftToe has given you the answer to your silly statement, but I suppose we must now live on a dream, that is about Swann and Cox have left us with.
February 2, 2022 at 10:42 pm #231307BS get your wrinkly old arse to GP on Saturday and cheer Keith and HIS team, complete with HIS new players, on to victory. You know you want too you miserable old missing git. Come on you have been missed, especially by that pillar in the East Stand you struggle to see round.

Scattergun approach..are you surprised considering what he had to pick from ?
I’ve agreed with most of what he’s done. The only thing I disagreed with was Beestin and he wasn’t getting picked due to long covid and he hasn’t looked fit of late.
Apart from that he’s been good. Hill had to mix and match what he had in an attempt to get what he could out of them, which wasn’t a lot because most of them were utter garbage.
February 3, 2022 at 5:58 am #231312Hill is a good manager but it is a results business, 1 win in 14 needs to be turned around now he’s got 8 of his players in (maybe not first choice but still his choice – we assume). The Oldham game is the one which may define the season. Lose it and we’re effectively down because it would take form that we haven’t had since Alexander at his peak to recover. Win percentages of all past managers would need breaking to achieve.

Why’s Beestin barely had a look in? Why did Wood not get a game until last week when suddenly he’s first choice? Why did we switch to a back 3 for a couple of games and then ditch it? Where did Millen disappear to for a couple of weeks? What’s happened to Jarvis (not even on the bench despite having no other strikers available)?
Plenty of other examples. I get that in the early stages he’d want to have a good look at everyone but it’s still happening now and whilst I understand that the players available aren’t that great, you’d think that he would have some idea of his best (or least crap) side by now?

February 3, 2022 at 9:22 am #231319Beestin not fit and still struggling, Millen is like warm at best and certainly won’t replace the lad from Wolves unless injury or fatigue play a part ( like a couple of games back ) Jarvis been injured or late I believe and probably not fit though to start, Wood is a mystery but he’s the only exclusion I would have questioned. Think Hill has mixed and matched at times but with lack of quality, fitness, fatigue in younger players and injuries he’s probably been pulling his hair out TBF. Time to see what he’s made of now that he has players of his choice in the squad and has a better choice of options in different areas of the pitch. I just hope it doesn’t take the new players too long to gell with what we have left after the window.

February 3, 2022 at 9:33 am #231321Millen came back in from the cold at Vale, in our last game, didn’t he?
February 3, 2022 at 9:51 am #231325I think this is a bit harsh on Hill. I’m pretty sure he knows the team and formation he’d like to play but if, say on Thursday, 3 players test positive for Covid he’s b*******. Some selections have been strange certainly but don’t forget KDT made the squad one week, doesn’t that suggest no alternative. It’s complicated by the fact that the club stated that Covid infected players would not be named which could explain “unexplained” absences.

February 3, 2022 at 10:19 am #231331Bring back Cox! We need the players unfit and incapable of anything but defending the 18 yard box! :-)
February 5, 2022 at 5:09 pm #231459What we did do is recruit 2 strikers, what we don’t know is if we have brought in any goal scorers, only time will tell and we probably ran out of time a month ago.
One shot on target in 97 minutes , mmm

Good idea, he does have a better PPG ratio than Mr. Hill after all.

February 5, 2022 at 5:55 pm #231470Could not understand two substitution Sinclair who looked like the only player to cause Oldhams defence problems and Nuttall the best of the front two

Replicates the Brian Laws era run of defeats, I believe it was in 1997 in his first spell. Things will change round but probably not enough in time for this season. Such is life

Agree about Sinclair, the only thing I saw Nuttall do was miss a sitter. Pyke much the better for me.

February 5, 2022 at 9:16 pm #231493Thought Nutall held it up pretty well and showed good strength first half, fitness went second half and was deservedly subbed. We all see players different, I thought Grant looked good particularly first half my mate in the opposite stand thought he was poor. I thought Millen was shite, passed it poorly, took a stupid quick free kick which was way too long and went to nobody but their keeper, my mate thought he did ok. I thought Beestin was still not fully fit and was booked as a result because he couldn’t catch their lad in midfield who was breaking through so fouled him, my mate thought he was our best player. We all see players in a different light plus the opposite stand see things we in the east stand don’t and visa versa. Either way we both agreed that we were shite second half and Oldham deservedly won with their second half performance plus their fans were outstanding for the whole game. Well done Oldham fans you backed your team from start to finish brilliantly but your still going down because like us your team isn’t good enough for league two.

February 5, 2022 at 9:45 pm #231495February 6, 2022 at 12:43 am #231504A barometer of how things are when even Bucks has gone from trying to defend the indefensible to admitting he got it wrong and finally, not posting at all. Bloody bollocks.

Simple (worst case) = win eleven of the remaining 16 games.
Barnet – relegated 2012/13 on 51 points.

No, that honour still rests with Lawsy, 8 straight league defeats in 1997/8 and we finished 1 point off the play offs! Abandon hope all ye who enter here…
