Hurst couldn’t keep Grimsby up when he went back.
They were cut adrift with a mess of a squad and after their January signings, almost overtook us.

November 26, 2022 at 5:53 pm #249282Only 3pts behind us when Hurst took over, ended up 5pts behind us and we had Cox at the helm.
November 26, 2022 at 6:32 pm #249286Now you are now missing the point CMC by digressing, Hurst would have kept us in the football league and the replies to your dismissal of his abilities have pointed to the reason why he should have been retained as a manager. The rot set in when Hurst left and the owner decided not to fund the club anymore to the level that would have kept us as a league club with a decent manager in charge.
The Cost cutting started when Hurst was appointed, he had quality left in Colcough and Van Veen but because they wouldn’t run like greyhounds on a dirt track he wasn’t interested. More interested in playing his hoofball rubbish with 10 Cloggers whilst mid table League 2 sides, who could play a bit, cut us apart.
As mentioned he couldn’t keep them up, even when he had the budget to do so.
I guess this is what lowering your expectations is about, The Manchild wouldn’t accept his role here and went up the road, he took them up single handed almost with a few others, and they’ve sold him on, for about a third of his real value, and you’re looking at them at something we should aspire to.
We were selling players for a million not long ago, never mind a quarter of a million quid!

I remember Hooper but remind me of the other players.

Paterson £1.3m
Hooper £1.75m as you mentioned. And more recent but significant fees:
Wallace £750,000
Townsend £500,000Could you see Hurst developing a player that could command a fee like that? unless they are a Defender, me neither.

November 26, 2022 at 10:31 pm #249305I note that all the players sold over the one million mark were all when the club were under the ownership of the man who allegedly ran the club as more of a hobby by the current owner. Things change overtime but facts are a constant reminder to everyone who believes we were worse off under the previous owner and we were also a football league club. As for Hurst and his ability to develop a player of a certain value, that is pure speculation and as always dependent on the resources available within the club at the time, he’s certainly getting a good fee from Luton for McAtee pro rata the value of most league two players.

😂November 28, 2022 at 6:27 pm #249411The London group are now in a 28 day exclusivity period to try and get a deal over the line.
Unsure when it ends but presumably it is before the end of the month.
I understand they were involved in a lower league club in Belgium for a short stint…Sounds like we dodged a bullet here.
November 28, 2022 at 6:44 pm #249414Almost certainly.
November 28, 2022 at 6:51 pm #249415I heard the London lot were property developers, which didn’t sound promising, but were there any other rumours about them and where can I see them?
November 28, 2022 at 10:26 pm #249434Have the London lot pulled out then?

Could Stanton be kit man / asst interim manager?November 29, 2022 at 6:14 pm #249488So looks like we are left with one potential buyer and with the group who I feel has the clubs best intentions at heart. Can they get a deal done is the question and halt this rapid decline?
November 29, 2022 at 6:23 pm #249489Do they have the required funds more to the point? I hope so

Indeed, a fans backed consortium, six million quid required.

Musk makes £43m an hour.
I wonder if he’d donate us 10 minutes of his time (£7.1m) ?
Claret & Blue would suit him.
November 30, 2022 at 5:47 am #249499So, then. Do we all agree that Musk to replace PS would be a good call?
He would certainly want to get rid of all dead wood, moreover, he does sell a pretty decent car.November 30, 2022 at 6:53 am #249500Jeff Bezos is handing/gifting his cash as of late. Anyone got his number?

This is the thing. 6m gets the club and stadium, but as per the last accounts in 2021, there is a 2.2m debt to be serviced. Then you need realistically someone with similar money to invest again over the next few years to start heading back in the right direction. How much is the football league parachute payment? That goes after next year unless by some miracle we stay up and get promoted next year. On the plus side revenue would likely increase as attendances would go up and I honestly think that would even be the same if we were in NLN next year but under new ownership. Hopefully something comes up and soon. It’s a really hard deal to get done though at the price he is looking for.

£20m28 minutes ‘hard graft’ for the lad 😂
November 30, 2022 at 11:31 am #249506What Swann’s “achieved” takes some doing, with or without a pandemic. Quite how anyone can take a club riding high in L1 to the where we are now is beyond me. The incompetence is unbelievable. I just hope he’s better at running the rest of his businesses a little better, though the omens aren’t good for the hospitality sector let alone what Swann is doing with his hotel in Blackpool. I’d love to be a fly on the wall at family meal times…

November 30, 2022 at 12:17 pm #249510Yes I imagine if they have a big meat pie at meal times, Swann takes 99% of it and the family get the rest.
November 30, 2022 at 5:06 pm #249540Don’t mention the pies!
