August 21, 2022 at 7:05 pm #243234We shouldn’t reminisce too much Renee, those lads aren’t coming back to help this current bunch out, unfortunately.
August 22, 2022 at 10:53 am #243277My first ever game: Carlisle at home, we were 2-0 up with 10 minutes left and lost 3-2. Why did I not take that as a warning?

Must be an Orient thing, as we were 4-1 down with 35 minutes to play and ended up winning 5-4.
My mate got ejected at 4-1 down, oh how we took the pish when he got back on the coach. Where the heck did nigh on 38 years go?!4 users thanked author for this post.
August 25, 2022 at 9:10 pm #243507What a great game that was. Found memories at OSG.

13,300 – we wouldn’t get that many now even if admission was free.

I remember it well, and the disappointment away at West Brom where we were desperately unlucky to lose 1 – 0.

August 26, 2022 at 11:03 am #243528Never a corner that they scored from LK, the special train was rocking that night, literally when we stoped at Derby station, disappointing journey home everyone new we should have got at least a draw, was that the last time we had a special? Know we had one booked to Rotherham but was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.

Was it the usual cattle class football special? 🙂
August 27, 2022 at 1:34 pm #243582No surprisingly good, corridor with compartments could get about ten in each, table in the middle, old but still in good nick.
August 27, 2022 at 2:25 pm #243583Saw them play at Doncaster over 50 years ago, Werder Bremen.

If I remember correctly Cyrille Regis scored the winner after stamping on one of our players to get the ball.
February 6, 2023 at 8:03 pm #255244Our coach broke down on way to West Brom- arrived 10 mins before kick- off , Police wouldn’t let us off at ground ,had to go to coach park 15 mins away!! Missed first 20 mins of match. That’s the way the police treated fans during that time .

February 6, 2023 at 8:14 pm #255247We went on the special train, police threatened us with arrest if anyone veared off the pavement onto the road a very friendly bunch. Remember being shocked at seeing Asians going into the pubs along the way to the ground, talk about a culture shock.

Absolutely ridiculous power mad attitude. Sounds par for the course back in the day.

I remember that game Bobby, I was driving home thinking we had lost 2-0, after leaving early.
I had a worse one than that though, after driving with my lads to watch the Notts Forest FA Cup match one Saturday after phoning their ticket office to order our tickets, arrived to find that they had not saved them. So with Scunny at Lincoln City that same afternoon, we called at Lincoln on our way back to Barton, and entering the ground about six minutes after kick off, the game was 2-0 after two early goals, I think to Lincoln. The score was still 2-0 with five minutes to go, so we went back to the car to avoid the traffic, there were two late goals and the score ended 2-2, so after driving all the way to Notingham, then to Lincoln and the Lincoln game, we had a full day but never saw any of the bloody goals, then back to Barton ha ha! Funny thing is that I nearly always still lerave when just a few minutes remaining in games.

Those were the days RoamingBull, thats when Scunny used to play attacking football, five forwards whoever we were playing, also a great night when Scunny won 4-0 at Leeds, I think that Barrie Tomas scored all four goals, and I slipped full lenth climbing a steep muddy bank inside Elland Road.

I was there for that, was not far to walk from Jackson Road lol. It was a crazy evening, lots of hate for Leeds. We all cheered ironically when they scored their consolation goal.
Happy days! UTBI

At your age you should realise that leaving early is not a good idea.
I never leave until the final whistle has been blown. Even when we are getting hammered – and there have been a good few times, both home and away – I just can’t bring myself to leave.
Now have 3 grown up children who also stay to the bitter end!!

February 7, 2023 at 11:13 pm #255304IronIronIron, When you say that you cannot bring yourself to leave before the final whistle, well mate, after 70 years watching Scunny, I cannot bring myself to stay till the end of the games ha ha!.
I prefer my habbit IronIronIron, and it comes up trumps 99 times out of 100, and I think that 85 mins is enough watching the shit that is on offer, I am usually on the M180 at final whistle and have RH on.
February 8, 2023 at 11:07 am #255330Leeds, Draw on Saturday, replay Tuesday then Thursday if my memory serves me well. No crying about too many games and pay on the gate too ,over full OSG etc.
I didn’t get to West Brom, too young too poor, but for mates who did their overriding memory was jack booted coppers acting like arseholes.2 users thanked author for this post.
