Just watched the cods v Notts and the standard of football was outstanding. If we go into this league with our present squad, and no quality signings, we will get battered…..Swann out

May 24, 2022 at 12:32 am #237798Lots of nice build up play but zero end product so we might be ok with 4/5 good additions!!
I’ll absolutely second Swann OUT!!!

May 24, 2022 at 1:44 am #237801watching the Wrexham v Bromley cup final, end to end great quick incisive passing and play henceforth with our current mob it would be like lambs to the slaughter playing anything like this standard..
York City and Dorking into the NL .. again teams on the up whilst we are going the other way.

May 24, 2022 at 6:04 am #237802Notts County looked decent enough but, as always let’s be honest, the Cod ‘eds looked a force to be reckoned with.
Congratulations to Hurst for what he has done there and was doing for us before …A side issue. Hurst brought in the Shrewsbury Amigos and got something good out of them with the promise of much more to come.
Under Cox – all three regressed. Eisa lost his discipline; MacAtee became third rate; Gilliead’s skills were allowed to disintegrate when there was almost no movement of players around him.
Hurst has rescued MacAtee at Cod ‘ed Corner. I’d wager that both Eisa and Gilliead would have gone onto better things too.
This guy is a pretty good manger, IMHO.16 users thanked author for this post.
May 24, 2022 at 8:33 am #237804it certainly isn’t a league to play a load of lightweight kids, fair enough there is ability in the young uns but we have been playing too many this last 3 months and gone out the Football League without any fight, even when we still had a even chance of staying up, I hope Swann if he is still here doesn’t think we can take the route of playing a young team because he will be in for a shock, you don’t see teams playing for a 0-0 draw in that league.

May 24, 2022 at 9:01 am #237805I do believe we wouldn’t be where we are now if hurst hadn’t been asked to leave, but unfortunately he dared to believe he could run a football team how he wanted to do.
The moment Mr Swann axe fell on Alexander we were doomed! Then when it looked like Hurst could turn us around he want as well and from that moment it was obvious we would end up totally in the mire.
Getting back to the National league I have been with mate mate a few times this season to Grimsby and from the very first time I went and watched a game I knew it was going to be very difficult if the inevitable happened.
Mr Hill needs to left alone to get on with it and build a side that can at least compete, that’s assuming we have a club that starts the season.
May 24, 2022 at 9:29 am #237807With the benefit of hindsight, Mick – we were doomed as soon as we were left unable to make four/five good signings in January.
The words… “if necessary” are going to echo throughout my brain for years to come!In any case, our January incomers, over a number of years, have rarely been up to all that much.
The trouble is that, without the excuse of an embargo in place, for many years, our signings have tended to arrive extremely late in each and every pre-season. A BAD sign!
Do you recall the good old days when most of us had a little bit of optimism at the start of a new campaign? – Sigh.
I used to put on my annual bet on us gaining promotion. Haven’t for quite a long time.1 user thanked author for this post.
May 24, 2022 at 10:02 am #237809the big mistake was getting rid of Hurst, was just starting to improve the team but Swann wanted to get the wage bill down and wanted a younger team but I think the last three or four seasons he has wasted that much money on paying silly wages on players not good enough for league football, and unable to get into a very poor side.
but even the last few months how much money has been payed in wages for players here on loan or first team players being on the bench or snubbed altogether while we have been playing up to 8 players 19 or under who are nowhere ready for first team football.
blood a couple at a time, yes, but we played one young lad for 30 minutes and released him three days later, I don’t know whether this was Hill’s doing or Swann’s, I am starting to feel sorry for Cox because he had no chance, but didn’t like his negative football.

May 24, 2022 at 10:17 am #237813If Cox could get so little out of the Shrews trio after Hurst had proved what they could do – that was quite enough for me. Good players going backwards.
There never was a single moment when I stopped attempting to value Cox – but the ex-Shrews formed a big part in formulating my overall negative opinion.2 users thanked author for this post.
May 24, 2022 at 10:33 am #237814Eisa barely featured at Bradford and I doubt Gillead’s stats look that impressive. McAtee however!!!
May 24, 2022 at 10:40 am #237815‘he has wasted that much money on paying silly wages on players not good enough for league football’
Yep, a false economy, like a lot of his actions.

May 24, 2022 at 12:28 pm #237818If you need cheering up search out Nigel’s message to Iron fans on the anniversary of the 2009 play off final.
You cannot not crack a smile with memories of that day and of a man who genuinely loved the fans.
Come one Nige you must have enough rich mates you can form a consortium with?

May 24, 2022 at 2:17 pm #237820We have some good talented young players, but they need a manager who actually wants to try to win matches no matter what level you are up against. I do not think the present one is up to it, and confirmed when you find out players were suddenly unavailable yet he failed to say who and why week after week.
If people want to buy the club then do it and quickly otherwise you know what will arrive as signings !
May 24, 2022 at 5:24 pm #237821Will Swann’s picks with a bit of cash were appalling, what are we going to get when he’s got no money to spend – its enough to give you sleepless nights

I will tell you what you will get Ironawe, you will get forced liquidation, I have forcast this for most of the season, this would be the best outcome for Peter Sqwann, that in my opinion is why we have spiraled out of the football league under his handling of affairs.
I along with 1,800 regular strong supporters of SUFC, have lost all of our interest in the club, and this asituation will not change whilst Peter Swann is still associated with SUFC.
He has wasted all the clubs money and assets, driven out any of our better players, put his clueless son in charge of recruitment, kept on clueless managers, fell out with the NLCC and even the football league, run the stadium into a terrible condition, and taken us into non-league . What really baffles me is why has Turnbull rejoined the club, and why has Hill extended his contract, they must be able to see that our club is finished!!

May 25, 2022 at 12:47 am #237825Another decent game Halifax v Chesterfield .. miles better in every way than the week in week out dross presented by our group. oh my days without any real change we will struggle massively next season.
Seems to be lots activity in the LI/2 transfer news , any SUFC updates , any new signings yet ?? … Hill may be away on summer Holiday soon hes had a long hard season n need to relax NOT.
If Swann is skint and it appears that way saying he will not put another quid into the club cant see how any new players can possibly come in ..time will tell but im not hopeful and preparing for the NL with Hills kids is very worrying after watching quite a bit of NL recently.
Also ..the Cods may go up thus loosing a local derby fixture .. after 94th minute and 119th goals against Notts County you gotta think its could be their year and a quick return to the EFL.

May 25, 2022 at 8:42 am #237826If the club want to increase season ticket sales they have to get more news of transfer activity, thinking, plans etc, out there. Emotional blackmail tactics won’t suffice. Think on, UTI99.

Given, where we are, would that be such a bad thing? Genuine question.
May 25, 2022 at 6:16 pm #237839Until we know what the salary cap is for the next season can’t see much action from anyone in the transfer market, the cap was voted through at the last AGM, popular thoughts were a cap of £900,000, Can’t see anywhere when the next AGM will be, anyone out there who does?.
May 25, 2022 at 8:50 pm #237844The AGM is in June and there’s a rumour the cap could end up being 70% of club turnover with some exceptions and flexibility.

May 29, 2022 at 9:43 am #237944Compared to Wrexham, stockpot and chesterfield, the cods have spent very little. As I’m aware, Mcatee was the only player they have paid a fee for. Most managers in the NL know that league. Hurst is an encyclopaedia of lower league players and knows how to build a team working for each other. Hill doesn’t know this league, and there goes our problem.
May 29, 2022 at 10:34 am #237948Eisa got crocked at Bradford shortly after he arrived, Cass.

May 29, 2022 at 11:36 am #237956I think Lee Turnbull is here just as a PR exercise as Swann knows how much he is hated znd doesnt want to show his face and thats why he stopped attending matches. He cant take any criticism whatsoever and this has shown at the supporter forums, as if anything is said that he doesnt like he gets agitated quickly. Nothing at all has changed or will until we get a new owner/owners. A coffee morning with Lee Turnbull will change nothing. In my opinion he is just a puppet.

May 29, 2022 at 12:00 pm #237960But on the podcasts Swann said he had broad shoulders and could take the criticism. Said his door was always open to those with grievances.
So why would he desert the club in its darkest hour?
May 29, 2022 at 12:19 pm #237962Possibly because very little he has said has turned out to be true? Why would we think the podcast statement is any different?

June 5, 2022 at 5:38 pm #238322Not by the Cods though.
Just rubs more salt in with Hurst and a McAtee goal.
At least they won’t be taking six points off us next season which is the only Bonus.
Can see us being out of the league longer than they were.June 5, 2022 at 5:46 pm #238323I don’t know RB. Without new owners and 8 decent new signings I think there is a good chance we will only spend 1 season in the National League.
