Big well done to everyone at the club today. The set up outside the DRE was spot on and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Been crying out for something like that for years.
Was more than happy with the performance on the pitch despite the wobbly last 20. That is a huge boost for the supporters and the players, no wins since February plays on the mind.
Butterfield and Whitehouse will be a force to be reckoned with if we can keep them fit- don’t know how we convinced Butterfield to drop to this level?
Everyone played their part so deserve credit; if I am going to be slightly critical it will be that Nuttall and Taft need to raise their game. Still remain convinced another CB and striker is critical.
Overall though, a happy iron fan tonight. 3,100 in attendance which was more than I was expecting, but what the club deserved. Hopefully they will stay and a few more can be persuaded to come.

August 6, 2022 at 8:15 pm #242175August 6, 2022 at 8:19 pm #242177Butterfield was outstanding and Dewhurst showed us what we’ve been missing. Well done, lads!

August 6, 2022 at 8:21 pm #242178Agree – great atmosphere today and Lee Turnbull has worked his socks off to try to create a better club/community feel.
Thought the new players all did well, also though O’Mally was excellent in the first half, didn’t see too much of the ball in the second to create chances with Feeney.
Nuttall is a big presence – he should cause more problems than he does and really needs to watch the flight of the ball before attempting to get off the ground as he usually mis times every jump. Taft has me worried every time he tries to pass the ball but to be fair he did win a few headers at the end to clear the danger.
All in all I’m pleased to get that first win and to see the ground rocking – fans were amazing.12 users thanked author for this post.
August 6, 2022 at 8:43 pm #242182Butterfield deserved mom but is Nuttall ever going to improve
just give the lad a break, he wasn’t poor but hopefully the goals will come, don’t care who scores them as long as we win, in 1966/67 Gainsborough Trinity won the Midland League, Ken Price scored 7 and Monty Brown scored over 40, but most of Brown’s goals was either from a Price assist or from his physical presence, if Nuttall scored a hattrick people will still criticise him, he isn’t perfect but as long as we win it doesn’t matter who scores.

August 6, 2022 at 8:49 pm #242184But to me there seems to be a different feel around the club this last month, and a great lot of credit must go to a number of club staff, and going to the ground the atmosphere was excellent, just hope all the upbeat atmosphere carries on for the rest of the season.

August 6, 2022 at 9:09 pm #242189Would have been a great injustice if we’d drop points today but oh so near, Nuttall would have been pilloried on here if we had drawn he must put some of his chances away, ok today we got away with it so let’s revel in the win we got tonight, Ogle looks the business but would like to see one of his long throw ins attacking the opposition, the crowd were magnificent like Jackie said the place was rocking, would like to see the away end opened for home fans when away teams are bringing less than 500, I’m sure it could be worked out to work. Anyone watched it on TV? For an opinion of the game and the atmosphere.
August 6, 2022 at 9:20 pm #242190Anyway Awaywego did you and the 2 lads have a great afternoon’s entertainment, certainly going to the game was different to what we have seen for a few years.

No, they wouldn’t.

August 6, 2022 at 10:35 pm #242212Goes to show it doesn’t really matter what league you’re in, or who you’re playing against… if the club provide entertainment on & off the pitch, the fans will respond.
Only downside was the extremely slow service in the iron bar all afternoon. Regarding half time drinks, can’t they pour a load of pints ready for the rush?
Credit to everyone at SUFC for today, it might take effort but the reward is worth it.

The lads really played very well today, and I am so pleased it was such a change in the club to the past 4 years, the effort put in by all the players, and also by Lee, Keith and their staff, and also the fans were brilliant, and worth a goal start, they really turned up and turned it on, so well done by all. Also a big plus was seeing the two brilliantly taken goals, each of them deserved to win games. All we need now are new club owners, and a continuation of the effort put into todays match by one and all.Well done, and fans will turn out even more so if a new owner takes over the club, lets wait and see???, but 3,103 sure was more than I thought would be attending, as it was live on TV as well, which must have stopped a few fans turning out.

August 7, 2022 at 12:17 pm #242252I watched it on the telly and the new optimism shone through.
August 7, 2022 at 2:08 pm #242262Well done to Hillbuilds team they put a good shift in,and got the result that they needed to regain some confidence back,.Some nervy moments after we conceded, and lost our shape a little. We need to stop those crosses flashing across the face of goal. A better side would have capitalised on them.As I said before 18 points are doable in the first two months, given the fixtures.A good start is a must as it will help us to attract players from the lower league teams who are not in their present clubs plans,.Centre back cover is a must,if boyce gets injured we will be in trouble. Overall well done, certainly got the fans chipper

August 7, 2022 at 9:26 pm #242305thought nuttall had a good game! he is not going to score you 25 goals as he is not that sort of front man, but he is finally starting winning headers and holding up the ball he also did especially well in tracking back and heading away in his own box and the crowd showed their appreciation when he was substituted

August 7, 2022 at 10:01 pm #242307Agree well done to everyone for a great performance and day yesterday, but one thing is concerning me that is the bench! We need some more experience on there because if any of the starting 11 gets injured it is Rowe carver and3 youth lads with very little experience.
August 8, 2022 at 9:25 am #242314Well done, a good result and optimism for the future.
I suspect if the team is performing well and winning the level of injuries will reduce significantly especially as this group of players are more committed to the club.1 user thanked author for this post.

August 8, 2022 at 4:44 pm #242337If we continue to grow in confidence we become a more attractive proposition for players too.

August 8, 2022 at 6:58 pm #242341By the same token, it will become a better place for the youngsters to play and grow – could do wonders for the likes of Gallimore, Wilson etc.

August 8, 2022 at 7:58 pm #242352I hope Hill works his magic and get’s some more players in. I imagine with a proper left sided attacker and not a LB playing there, we’d look even better. I can’t wait for rest of the season after the effort put in on the first game back.
Huge difference.
August 8, 2022 at 8:35 pm #242353Still aiming for another four before the end of the month. I reckon we might have to settle for a couple though…

August 8, 2022 at 9:22 pm #242363If we only get 2 I think we need a centre back and a forward with real pace. Ability to score a goal or 15 if possible.
August 8, 2022 at 9:26 pm #2423654 is mad. I reckon we only need a CB and a wide player.
August 9, 2022 at 12:08 am #242376definately need more signings .. fingers crossed as Swann departs they arrive.
whilst a very positive start indeed we must stand back and take another look after 5 or 6 games for a better idea just how things may pan out.. having watched the extended highlights and various YT vlogs its great to see the fans smiling again and the positive vibe was plain to see.
again well done to all concerned
