Another appreciation post for Watson. The rate of his development in the past 12 months is staggering. Such a shame we couldn’t enjoy it with a more successful team.
Massive credit to the lad- and the goalkeeping coaching staff.
Any rumours about teams looking to sign him up as he’s out of contract ?

March 13, 2022 at 9:53 am #233443He’s had a good season, but I’d be surprised if he stays in the football league.

March 13, 2022 at 10:02 am #233444More heroics yesterday, definitely did not deserve to be beaten three times but his defensive colleagues as per normal were missing when required. Several great saves but the double save second half was outstanding, thanks Rory you haven’t let us down this season lad 👏👏👏

Reckon we’ve got a chance of keeping hold of him?
March 13, 2022 at 12:41 pm #233463Bloody hope not.

I wouldn’t be surprise if he stayed in the league, I was one of the very few on here singing his praises when 99% of others were blaming him very week for crap performances from the team. He is a very good goalkeeper, makes the odd mistake but then so do the best in the world.

March 13, 2022 at 1:40 pm #233472Not seen a keeper in League 2 better than Watson although to be fair we rarely give opposition keepers a chance to shine.
Would love him to stay but would not begrudge him the opportunity to build his career away from this basket case of a football club.

March 13, 2022 at 10:16 pm #233507Rory boy been the only standout performer this season. Should play in the Football League not conference next season.

March 13, 2022 at 11:21 pm #233509He won’t stop. Too expensive. I understand the wanted rid of him this season as he is apparently on the highest wages at the club. His wages are far in excess of anyone else’s. Collins’ game time this season is concerning. Hope this hasn’t held him back as it’s an important stage of his development to have hardly played. Watson’s had a blinding season IMO.
March 13, 2022 at 11:50 pm #233511i reckon he will be on his toes n out the door lightening quick if a Championship , L1/2 club comes in for him… sad but hes got to move his career forward and that wont happen stuck at Scunny in the NL.

I believe he was told if he got another club he could leave. Cox had signed the Coventry keeper as his no.1 and Collins was no. 2. Then Cox had no alternative had to use him !
That was an early showing of the thoughts of Cox, and there were others !
March 14, 2022 at 11:20 am #233524And most would have been happy with that sanfran, his record was shite and still is.
March 14, 2022 at 12:27 pm #233530Something happened to Watson early this season regarding his confidence.
Always had skill and is a better than average shot stopper.
He made no attempt in previous seasons to control his area and whilst he is not yet in the Joe Murphy class at doing this he is now competent.
He used to have a problem when he couldn’t hold a shot to push it in front of him. He very rarely does this now.
His distribution is still probably his weakest area but even that has improved this season. He is not helped in this by the fact we have never had a forward that can challenge for, win and retain a long clearance in the whole of his time here. This means he is often trying to hit a 2 yard gap inside either touchline. The Man City keeper can do this pretty consistently but not many others.
Now a quality lower league keeper and at 25 could get better still if he works hard. Don’t let the fact that he has always had a shite team playing in front since he got here cloud your judgement. Player of the season by a mile.
March 14, 2022 at 3:10 pm #233538Interesting comments from Keith in the presser today. Wouldn’t say if he wanted to keep him and wouldn’t be drawn on whether he’d had a good season. He clearly has and there’s no doubt that he has been our player of the season, but I still think he will struggle to get a league club when he leaves in the summer. Time will tell.
March 14, 2022 at 3:35 pm #233539He’ll sign for league one club as a back up keeper, that’ll probably increase his take home and he’ll get a two year deal with the odd appearance in paint trophies.
March 14, 2022 at 3:55 pm #233540If no league club comes in for him this summer I’d be surprised.
Seems to be have improved all areas of his game and his shot stopping/reflexes are excellent.
League 2 goalkeepers especially are rarely the finished article, football league highlights are littered with GK errors, when they become competent in all areas- especially under 30- they are destined for the higher divisions
March 14, 2022 at 6:08 pm #233542Watson played in L1 (in the side for that 3-0 defeat at SoL if I remember correctly) so is probably the only one of the present squad on L1 wages.
Can’t think of anyone else who featured that season.
March 14, 2022 at 6:14 pm #233543I’d not be surprised if a lower ti mid table premier club got him for nothing and put him in their b team. Maybe he would get the odd start.
Come on, I’ve seen worse 25 year olds at Man U!
