I know it was only the third goal so it didn’t make much difference to Saturday’s result and we’re crap and going down anyway but Onarise’s ability to give away a penalty with a daft tackle is growing ever week.
I thought the foul the other week against Newport was special but the two-for-the-price of one against Swindon really took the biscuit. Diving in on the stretch from a long way away, he was always second favourite for the ball and the other player just had to touch the ball to the side to ensure he won the penalty. I’m sure Onarise is doing his best to recover bad positions created by the rest of the team but he was got to stop diving in like that!
Onariase is fairly solid but he’s not the best in possession of the ball and a lot of what he does is last ditch defending.
Too slow at reading play or not the best positionally ?. Not entirely sure but if you’re a really decent, solid defender you really shouldn’t be finding yourself regularly putting in last ditch tackles..if you’re a good CB you shouldn’t have to.
Taft is the biggest culprit for the goals going in but Manny is a big part of it as well. Let’s face it, there must be a reason why those two have been at the back and we’ve let in so many goals.
I know he’s not the best centre back around, otherwise he wouldn’t be playing for us and it’s not his fault he can’t pass the ball very well but there’s no real excuse for giving away such daft penalties.
I like that he is clearly trying to make up for mistakes (both his and other players’), just stay on your feet Manny!
As I said a lot of it is from last ditch defending which is something a good CB at this level wouldn’t have to resort to.
A good CB at this level wouldn’t be the best CB around either, Ferrite !
