August 27, 2021 at 1:44 pm #212697I believe he got us relegated into league 2 and decided he’d had enough.
As usual a Scunny fan making out everything was rosey before the Swanns and will be rosey after the Swanns.
I think you mean rosy, anyhow let’s put the respective chairman’s records on promotion, trips to Wembley, seasons actually played in the Championship and debt incurred whilst in charge. Oh yes and Mr Wharton never transferred the club ownership away into a separate company to cover his sorry arse. Your go.

August 27, 2021 at 2:44 pm #212698…used to get better players with potential and occasionally sell them on for good profit, without racking up £11m in the process.

August 27, 2021 at 2:55 pm #212701Who do you think you are uptheiron99 I have had a season ticket for years including this season and last.Am I an idiot for supporting the club I grew up with. I am also not an idiot for feeling the need to Voice my opinion when I feel that things are far from right with the club so just keep claiming your paycheck and stop hiding behind your keyboard

August 27, 2021 at 4:42 pm #212705Would it perhaps help not use fans/customers at all but refer to those who venture to the SVS as punters?

Or masochists?

August 27, 2021 at 7:20 pm #212714It’s the duty of the fans to speak out against chairmen like this. We are the custodians of the club not these mickey mouse chairmen so if something stinks call it out – don’t ever accept it as the norm.
could it be the ‘99’ in the user name refers to the date of birth which would put him firmly in Swann junior territory 😀

Vadar—-please do not use that word DEFINITELY pal, I am still having nightmares from Mr Keyon commentating the Scunny v Man C 21s, he used the word 257 times in the 90 mins.

Never mind that, address the questions put to you about the respective chairman’s records, less of your sycophantic drivel and more attention to actual details and facts. If your referring to Alex and his Wembley winning goal back in 1999 being the link to your avatar, no one gives a shit, just answer the points raised, be genuine for once in your pathetic existence or else shut it numb nuts.

Topics: 11Wharton left us as chairman after seeing us relegated to league 2.
Swann is chairman after seeing us relegated to league 2.
Our squad lead by Adkins did amazing to reach the championship, but it makes you wonder how it fell apart resulting in relegation to league 2?
Our squad lead by Alexander should arguably have reached the championship, but it also makes you wonder how it fell apart resulting in relegation to league 2?
In my opinion poor recruitment are to blame in both instances, although it’s probably the hardest part of the game. How were we ever going to find another Sharp/Keogh/Hooper etc on the cheap? Likewise when our budget is cut to become sustainable how were we ever going to find another Madden/Toney/Morris etc.
Who knows how that season would have gone in league 2 after Wharton sold up? As I’ve said before I will support whoever is owner. We’re Scunthorpe United and a massive dose of realism is needed by all.
August 28, 2021 at 9:34 am #212754Well at least you made an attempt an answer of sorts but you don’t mention the debt accrued under this chairman who has achieved nothing like the success Mr Wharton did with a much more manageable financial position and you never mention the ground grab that has occurred due to this chairman’s financial mismanagement. Wharton never promised that much but delivered a lot more then was expected and clubs like ours very rarely achieve long term sustained success due to the amount of financial clout we can generate through our size. The vast majority of Iron fans realise this and are happy to follow a club achieving occasional success but striving to play decent football whilst bringing youngsters through to help careers and provide financial stability through transfers.
This chairman promised much from a new stadium to a revamped stadium to the hope of championship football but none of this has materialised in 8 years of his stewardship. What has occurred is one promotion, two play off semi final defeats, a relegation and a financial disaster for such a small club. The biggest loss is the ownership of the football club for the first time in its history due to financial bungling. If you addressed that point rather then slag off genuinely concerned fans who raise these issues then maybe a healthier debate could ensue.August 28, 2021 at 9:40 am #212756AnonymousInactiveOffline

August 28, 2021 at 9:43 am #212759I have not posted on the site for a while as i’am in totally at a loss to know what to say anymore! I try to be positive and we started to see some signs of green shots but then injuries come along and kill those off.
We just seen to lurch from one crisis after another wether it’s injuries, COVID, players not good enough, fans battling with the chairman, fans calling for the managers head and the list goes on.
All in all It’s a total mess right now with no end in sight! today the attendance will probably be ok as tranmere will bring a few but its catch 22 we need the fans to help the team but also the club and the players need to try to help the fans by going out and being the best they can on and off the pitch.
In supporting scunny for 47 years this is the lowest point I have ever been at, but I will be there today and all the other home games as it’s my home town club that need me.
So please show us some fight on and off the pitch to get back to those green shoots that will eventually lead to us being back together both on and off the pitch.

This ^^^^
It’s the PR that has been the problem. I don’t recall any other chairman since we entered the league who “promised” as much as Mr Swann, yet delivered so little. Perhaps if the new/refurbished stadia and the Championship/exciting attacking football promises hadn’t been made then fans would look upon his tenure more favourably.
However, as numerous posts outline, there’s been no improvements made over that time and we are certainly in a worse position now than when he took over.
Of course we have had disastrous seasons in the past but we have always bounced back. This decline has been long and protracted both on and on the pitch.
Trust in the ownership is at all time low, then the club puts out a statement effectively blaming Covid and the fans themselves, instead of admitting responsibility.
I just can’t see things getting any better whilst the present club structure remains in place.

August 28, 2021 at 11:25 am #212762To be fair to the chairman, the injury crisis probably cannot be levelled at his door.
I do want to know why this keeps happening season after season. All things happen for a reason. Is it the same reason every season – or different ones?
Why us?
Is there a problem with the backroom staff?
Do we only sign players who have somehow proved that they are totally brittle? We are in 18th place – I have to think we might have been a little higher still without so many hors de combat.
Again, to be fair to the chairman, first indications are that we have an improved squad on last year.
It does disappoint that we have not managed to get one loanee in this week, however.August 28, 2021 at 1:58 pm #212772Ok show me how it’s done? Discuss the unacceptable level of debt, lack of success compared to Mr Wharton and the ground grab that has never occurred before in the history of SUFC until this current chairman came along. Why don’t you discuss that Mr club sycophant?

August 28, 2021 at 2:38 pm #212775One promotion, two playoff semi finals in div one, and missed out on another on goal difference, one relegation, and made a loss while doing so much like every other club, seems quite good to me, don’t know about you?. Could be worse Barcelona have a £1.15 billion loss and theirs hasn’t been written off.

Whartons record was better, promoted from league two, champions of league one, play-off winners at Wembley, three seasons in the championship, manageable debt of two million, owned the ground and never once put it into another company to cover an unmanageable eleven million pounds debt. Yes there were a couple of relegations but come on be truthful for once, the two records aren’t even comparable.

August 28, 2021 at 6:07 pm #212791Yes Wharton’s record was better no question, but Swannys hasn’t been as bad as many make out, its there for all to see.
August 28, 2021 at 6:29 pm #212794….and so is the unacceptable debt and ground grab.

August 28, 2021 at 10:06 pm #212823Well that was a refreshing change today all the players put in a shift they lifted the supporters before and after the game so a massive well done to all concerned, 41 More performances like today’s and things will be looking a lot better.
It’s so nice to be writing positive things about our club instead of the doom and gloom, it proves if you try your best the supporters will be 100% behind you so well done again for starting my weekend off with a win.
