The season thus far has been quite poor and a sign of things to come.
Tuesday night it was men against boys, we were the boys. Man City were a class above our team including those so- called ‘firsteamers’. A few glimpses from our youngsters here and there but none of them made you sit up and think wow!
Last Saturday v Sutton United we took 11 corners yet only 1 produced something, an header over the bar, I cant remember us winning the others or even being first to the ball. We are shot shy and overplay the game rather than pulling the trigger and having shots at goal. Setplays and shots being the top two ways to score. Whilst individual mistakes are costing us goals (3 by the same player at home).
Each match has seen at times poor referee and linesman decisions.
There are no goals in the team except for Loft or Beestin, though Scrimshaw looks useful.
The dwindling crowd turned on Ernest chanting ‘we want our club back’ which attracted glares from the royal box. Rest assured there will be a petty retaliation for that.
Again we have gone into a season with barely a squad, making drastic signings for the sake of making signings O’Neil and Bunn (both out now injured) with the former being lethargic and un inspiring from minute 1 v Swindon.
I read things on other posts winkling out the most minutia of positives.
The above outlines a struggling team and club.
Quite frankly you cannot polish a turd Peter.

What’s that got to do with the club ownership?

So, no goals, apart from the goals?
Look, I broadly agree with you about the issues around the club, I think we’re in a deep mess and the buck stops at the top.

For the record if I was Swann I’d have sold up years ago. Too many idiots thinking they know how to run a football club around.

Good. Support the team, demand better from the club.

August 26, 2021 at 9:56 am #212622UTI99 I wish you were Swann because if he had sold up years ago the club would not be in the mess it is now and would still own its own ground etc.

August 26, 2021 at 10:37 am #212627The reffing is far better than this time last season when a ‘Paddington hard stare’ would almost always result in the award of a free kick.
Reffing improved towards the end of last season when whistle-happy officials seemed to be acting under different orders and it has continued on that path, IMHO.It looks to me that we have a rather different recurring problem. As in seasons-a-many, the injury lists border on the unbelievable. With two first teamers damaged and a couple who usually sit on the subs’ bench – we’d be fairly okay. But …
I invite those with time on their hands and who have an inquisitive mindset to do some hunting around the division for stats to see how we compare to other sides.
Last year, I did some quarter-baked hunting around and asking the question. Not at all statistically acceptable but fans of bigger and better teams were regularly reporting far fewer crocks.
In fact, not one person asked could believe what I was telling them about our annual situation.August 26, 2021 at 12:30 pm #212632Tuesday night was a disgrace, practically a team full of youngsters and the brain dead decided the best way to ‘support’ them was to chant about the Swanns.

Love to hear it. Hopefully there’s abit more of it from the few that bother turning up against Tranmere.

August 26, 2021 at 12:37 pm #212633So, who do we have out injured?
Bilson
Millen
Kenyon
Hallam
Loft
Bunn
O’Neill
JarvisI make that 8 first teamers, 10 if we include the two more potentially out because of Covid. Injury lists are readily available and up to date across the web for Premier League teams (used for things such as fantasy football). Having a quick look, there is not one Premier League team with the amount of first teamers out injured that we have. Arsenal have 8 out (which includes 3 due to Covid) and they’ve roundly been labelled as currently having an injury crisis. So yes, going by this I believe we get a ridiculously high amount of injuries that is largely incomparable to most other clubs (at least in the Premier League).

Topics: 11Cliff, you love it that our young players, some who are Scunthorpe born and bred, have to play in a toxic atmosphere all because we’ve got some tatty flags, dirty seats and are having a few bad seasons.
We are 4 games into a new season, get a grip and create a positive atmosphere. As I’ve said before you’ll get what you deserve if you continue the toxic ‘support’.
August 26, 2021 at 2:38 pm #212636Thanks BLT. Nice when your gut feeling is backed up by something more tangible.
So, folks. The big question:

The flags have been replaced. Stop being so negative.

Why did we perform so poorly last season if our ‘toxic support’ is what is causing our poor results? In fact the general consensus is that the players are playing more as a team with a ‘toxic support’ than without any fans? Those cardboard cutouts must have been vocal.

This board and Scunny fans page on Facebook reminds me of ‘Arsenal Fan TV’. Great to hear Arsenal fans at WBA making their feelings known towards them.

Obviously not “brain dead” as you put it.
Clearly quite astute, as they can work out who is responsible for the mess we’re in!
What’s the alternative? Go on TripAdvisor and give the club a one star rating? Write a “Dear Swann” letter? Lay down on Brownsword Way so the team bus can’t get in?
C’mon UTI99, let’s hear your suggestions.

What has last season being the past got to do with my point? We played crap with no crowds, so I don’t think you can make such claims about a ‘toxic support’ being primarily responsible for our woes.
I don’t think it’s fair to compare Arsenal fans crying because they can’t get top 4 in the Premier League or sign a top player with those upset at a club looking like it could plummet out the league, with assets stripped, a neglected stadium to the point where comfort isn’t possible due to mucky seats and overflowing toilets and no hope of positive change.

If the moaning stops Swann might clean the stadium, properly fund players and not take the fans for granted. Yeah, right!

For the record if I was Swann I’d have sold up years ago. Too many idiots thinking they know how to run a football club around.
So UTI99—-Do you think that the club is being run properly, please answer that question, at the same time of answering, please bare in mind that the owner has run up a debt of £11.5 million, dropped down from being a team in the top few of League 1 into the relegation area each year of League 2, have lost all their better players, have borrowe £1 million from the Football League which has resulted in stiff penalties, now are operating a team of sub standard non league standard non league players, have a ground that is run down and neglected, they have taken the ground from the club due to the debt that the board suppervised, have lost 50% of its once proud supporters, have a team that plays defensive unentertaining rubbish, and just one more, have now gone 16 matches since winning a bloody game (correct me if I am wrong Big Left Toe). So UTI99, do you think that the club is being run correctly mate, and should supporters be turning up in droves and doing hand springs along Brownsword Way on match days in order to please your mate Swanny,, you are a stupid bloody idiot UTI99, DEFINITELY!!!

Again you have got it wrong UTI99, you use the words “they are SCFC supporters”, it should be “were SUFC supporters”, many have been lost because they no longer like what has happened to their club, now I am wrong, it should read “Swanns club”.

August 27, 2021 at 12:34 am #212671Fans have been treat as an after thought now for what seems like an eternity. Sooner he’s gone the better.
What get’s me is that he can sign over the club assets to cover his own stupid spending and fails to find the money to help us through the difficult times last season to then get a loan out and directly puts us right in deep shit via a transfer embargo.
Signing the club assets over he could have at least found the money to keep us afloat without having to run to get a loan as a gesture of goodwill.
Let’s face it, we’re pretty much asset stripped as a club now after all due to his incompetence.

August 27, 2021 at 7:37 am #212672UTI99 – just as a matter of interest – where do YOU think really bad mistakes have been made? (For simplicity’s sake, I think we can accept it if you trim the list to around ten.)
Why are the casual supporters now virtually extinct?
Why do you think that hardcore supporters have – completely out of the claret and blue – stopped coming?
Do you honestly, hand on heart, believe that Bru is unrepresentative of the main body of fans?
Your posts remind me of the proud mother at the march past of her son’s passing out parade in the army.
“Look at that – our Jimmy is the only one in step!”Do remember that for six+ years, this writer gave the chairman complete benefit of the doubt.

One day there will BE clean seats at the SVS.Aye clean seats, clean toilets, reasonably good catering and a decent team to watch playing enjoyable football most of the time, plus the odd promotion, winning the odd league title and a few trips to Wembley some successful some not.
Whatever happened to Steve Wharton?
