May 15, 2022 at 12:16 pm #237426Swann took over our Club when Steve Wharton sold it due to ill-health. We had a good boardroom until then with Steve Wharton, Chairman, who attended all matches both home and away, and his ❤️ heart was in Scunthorpe United as his father before him at the Old Showground. Rex Garton, Director, and club solicitor too, who came into GP restaurant daily and paid for his lunch, was totally committed and he also attended home and away matches. Brian Borrill, Keith Wagstaff, Jason Oxenforth were all Directors who were committed, loved the football and attended matches. This all changed to the detriment of SUFC when the swanns took over and the then current directors were not wanted on the board. Where we are now, out of the football league, without any sense of direction and with owners who couldn’t care less if we no longer have a Scunthorpe United FC is down to one man and his family ALONE and no other party. SHAME ON YOU THE SWANNS !!!!!!!!

We all know that Swann has devastated the Club.
Don’t you get bored posting the same rubbish all the time?
May 15, 2022 at 2:09 pm #237430To suggest he is looking for a buyer is to believe what he has said he is doing, I’ve heard many statements over the years and none have come off. Of course taking a mortgage out on the grounds days after saying all this hardly supports his stated position, but he could come out and give reasons why but he is refusing to do so….

Didn’t he step in literally at the last minute?
Wasn’t the boxing promoters consortium in or about to enter an introduction presentation meeting when he rolled up at the ground?2 users thanked author for this post.

Don’t think Steve Wharton is a mind reader, he would study the Swann offer and consider in good faith as a result the club was going to be in safe hands. It’s not just the fans who have been conned is it.

May 15, 2022 at 7:40 pm #237442No you’re right iron-awe. A great many supporters believed and trusted Swann when he took over our club, as did Steve Wharton. There is no way he would have sold to the Swanns if he had known that they are not fit to run a football club. Apparently the Swanns first intended to take over Lincoln City. What a lucky, lucky escape they had! Yes originally it was the boxing promoter from Jersey who was going to buy the club lock stock and barrel, then Swann appeared from nowhere. He says he is trying to sell the club but the difference now is we don’t own our stadium and assets, his company do.

May 16, 2022 at 7:51 am #237449I don’t remember them trying to invade the pitch or assault security staff either. What’s your point?
That’s probably because Newcastle’s security staff don’t see fit to physically and verbally assault fans and then wonder why they kick off?
But thats you all over UTi, stick up for bully’s in hi-vis over the fans!

May 16, 2022 at 7:52 am #237450Swann’s rejected offers already, if he’s serious about selling, tell us your asking price so us fans can judge if your intention to sell is credible. Otherwise I suspect it’s convenient for you to keep the ground as security for your other loans.
As for the claims he hasn’t taken a penny out of the club, how about taking 300k a year in interest on the loans to fund the excessive spending and employing a chief scout not qualified to do the job.6 users thanked author for this post.
May 16, 2022 at 7:56 am #237451I’m not bothered about what the Swanns do or don’t do.
You have certainly proved that with absolute drivel you have posted in his defence over the years.

Topics: 11Pat, I can’t remember the last time I posted directly about the Swanns. All my posts are about the supporting the team/club because all ‘customers’ like you are doing is fast tracking the club into administration.
Is that what you want???
May 16, 2022 at 10:35 am #237453Well there’s no games to “not attend” for the next three months!
So it solely down to the ownership and management to get on with sorting out the mess before we kick off in the National League.
If we ever do!

May 16, 2022 at 11:59 am #237455This an odd one and I make no comment.
Two relatives and two friends who had stopped supporting are going to be attending some matches next season – but naturally, will not be risking the purchase of a season ticket.May 16, 2022 at 12:46 pm #237458Straw man argument definition:

May 16, 2022 at 12:49 pm #237459I have been through my now usual end of season deliberation.
Do I continue to go and watch the shite on offer and continue to fund the cause of the problem versus letting the cause of the problem stop me supporting my club?
Neither are great options but same as the previous 2 seasons I have gone and paid my £190.

May 16, 2022 at 1:26 pm #237463We must not forget though St Wharton said he would put the club into liquidation if a buyer didn’t come forward. Now that’s someone who really loves the club, he wanted his money back just the same as Swanny, the ground would have been sold just the same and he would have kept all the proceeds, there not many chairman who aren’t the same they can’t afford to do anything else, so let’s not get to hung up about it,at least at the moment Swanny hasn’t threatened that action.

Chicken or Egg !
May 16, 2022 at 3:17 pm #237468First, whether people agree with UTI or not he is perfectly entitled to his opinion and should be able to offer it without name-calling or abuse from others.
Second, all this stuff about Wharton is nauseating. The abuse he — and other members of his board — received on here was appalling, yet now he’s viewed as some sort of messiah. I backed Wharton through and through but he did make mistakes and didn’t leave the club in great shape.
Having said all of that, Swann has been a total and utter disaster. I backed him for as long as I felt able, but it’s now very clear that I was completely wrong to do so. The feeling I’m left with is that the club’s been a play-thing for him and his sons and that Mrs Wharton’s stepped in and said “enough”. Of course I have no evidence for that but it’s my recollection she sold her Wilko shares for a great deal of money, some of which probably ended up with the club and I know how my wife would have reacted in a similar situation. Evening meals would have been interesting…
As always, of course, we, the fans, are the ones who suffer as a result of all this nonsense. Swann’s made sure his nest remains nicely feathered on the back of the club, having wasted millions; and here I agree entirely with the OP.
IF Swann has ANY conscience he will do everything he can to get the club back into the league and provide the financial security he always vowed was his intention. Having seen what’s happened, however, I’m not holding my breath. I do fear for our future.

Swann has been a disaster atbour Club.
However, what you are spouting is a load of rubbish.
Swann would have made a lot more money investing in almost anything else.
His problem is that he has no idea how to run a football club. Sadly, he chose our football club to find this out.
I still firmly believe that Swann had good intentions. The reality is that he did not learn from the mistakes that he was making and now he finds himself deep in the mire with no money (his business has been badly hit by covid), no support (we have all had enough) and nowhere to go.
I hope he finds a buyer soon but, rest assured, he will not let anyone know what is happening until a deal has been completed – neither should he.

He still doesn’t believe he made any and that’s part of the problem.

Firstly I am a supporter, not a customer! Had any other business gave me the service this joke of a club have given me I would have taken my custom elsewhere a long time ago!
Secondly how am I fast tracking the club into administration?? I attend every home game work allows me to and as many away games my work and family life allow me to (I didn’t miss a single Saturday home game just a few evening kick off’s due to work or family commitments) I also try to spend my money on refreshments at the ground when the club can be arsed to stock properly and supply enough staff to serve customers (more often than not the money has stayed in my pocket due to utter incompetence on the clubs behalf)
Instead of blaming fans for the utter shit show going on at GP direct the blame at the marvellous businessman you admire so much!

May 17, 2022 at 11:57 am #237483I no longer attend games. I stopped getting a season ticket after several decades. And I am not responsible for it !!
The situation is solely the Ego’s responsibility so don’t blame me. He chose the path of decline, he could have changed but he opted to ignore everyone.
The club gets no more of my money because I no longer trust the Ego. And while it remains that way no more money will go to the club.

No Scunthorpe United fans deserve what your hero has done to this once great little club.
