Well a win is a win and these lads can be drafted into the first team as Cox sees fit but it is only an U23 game, Huddersfield may have fielded a bunch of kids today. Still well done guys and a clean sheet plus four goals scored is a great boost for moral.

It was only against Huddersfield U23s, but I am grasping at any reasons for optimism right now. Hopefully it gives Cox some ideas for how to maximise the potential of this squad for coming games.

    New tactics? Winning 4-0?

I thought Russ was in charge of the U23s.

Valuable game time, but the lesson learned has to be – more experience when interested will beat inexperience.

Amazing what playing with two strikers and proper wingers achieves. Fancy that, who would have thought.

Maybe there is something in playing positively after all. I’d stick Olomola and Turan upfront on Saturday…can’t do any harm.

Rowe and Onariase can come in as well. No expecting a win by any means. I’d just settle for a better performance.

I’d be tempted to stick Butroid back in at left back. I know he had a dodgy game when he did get his chance but O’Malley “even though I like him and has a lot of talent” is often caught way out of position.

Question is who would partner Onariase ?. Cordner get’s rag dolled like a little girl and Bedeau at times looks a like a death trap.

I’d like to see Dales get more of a go as well…he’s good enough to come off the bench.

I can’t quite put my finger on what and where it is going pear shaped but both FBs are getting badly mauled under the present system. Indisputable fact.
If it’s a one on one – the FB must shoulder any blame – but more often than not, it isn’t.
When it is two against one or three against two … The fact that the the FBs are inexperienced is just one more factor in this unfortunate mix.

I suspect that the crux of the matter is that the CBs have got so much on their own plate to cope with that they aren’t able to take any sort of broader view of what is happening.

I really like O Malley – he’ll be a good un. Hornshaw might well be too but it certainly ain’t gonna be at RB!

What is this big thing about not playing Onariase? – He’s been on the bench for a long time so must be assumed fit.

Is it the same thing with Cox that we’ve seen where MacAtee and Eisa are concerned?
The bits we’ve seen of the guy make him look pretty good.

It might be worth a shot finding out if playing him alongside Cordner would get the best out of him. If we were to do that as a trial, the more experienced Bedeau could take over at LB if required but RB has been exposed far more from what I’ve seen and is the greater problem.

Rowe should help that before Clarke is back. Even though I think O’Malley will develop into the better players, I’d go for Butroid and see how he get’s on. O’Malley would be a good player with 3 other good defenders around him but for the time being I’d go with Butroid, he has a bit more experience.

Onariase needs to play though….he’s deemed fully fit now and Rowe also got 90 minutes the other night. Clarke and McGahey are both back in training so Mcgahey needs sticking next to Onariase in a few weeks time when he’s fit.
