Gone to our rivals Southend, watch him have a blinder at the Sans Siro.
January 25, 2021 at 2:55 pm #201688Lofty will rough him up!
January 25, 2021 at 3:27 pm #201689Don’t blame him. Perhaps what was expected wasn’t deliverable with the position and tactics.
January 25, 2021 at 3:45 pm #201691Cox has first hand knowledge of his weaknesses, I would expect them to be exploited.
January 25, 2021 at 4:02 pm #201692Got the impression from Cox that Cordner was a bit of a softie when it came to playing centre back, not up for it, wouldn’t man up. If that’s the case then Loft may well rough him up a bit, I hope he does and Cordner has a nightmare against us.

But perhaps his new club will play a square peg in a square hole.
January 25, 2021 at 6:12 pm #201701I was under the impression Cordner was a centre back and we played him as such either in a back three of four, if he was more useful elsewhere I stand corrected. How about spongeman or tea boy perhaps, he’s a bloody defensive footballer I believe who was not manning up as he should, maybe Cox was wrong about that?
January 25, 2021 at 9:17 pm #201719He’s a centre half, he only ever played centre half for us and he was pretty rubbish at it. He’ll probably play a blinder against us mind you.

Nah! Not having that.
He was played in the correct position here. Just not good enough IMO.
Time is on his side though so I hope the lad develops the way Charlie Goode has.
Good luck to him. Wasn’t the right player at the right time for us.

What is it about Loft’s inability to win a header or hold the ball up that makes you think he’d rough anyone up, let alone Corner?
January 26, 2021 at 1:59 pm #201752“Wasn’t the right player at the the right time for us” Excellent point NI, many have left and made progression at other clubs, and we should not dwell or beat ourselves up that they are doing well elsewhere, the main thing is that we mostly wanted them to do well while they was here and wasn’t our failure they didn’t.

He’s not good in the air for his size but he’s certainly rough enough. He’s strong and he puts himself about.
I think the hold up criticism is a bit unfair. He rarely loses the ball to 1 defender. When he’s trying to hold off 2 or 3 because none of our players are anywhere near to be a target for a pass or draw a defender then there isn’t a lot he can be expected to do.January 27, 2021 at 11:20 am #201819I think the good things we’ve seen from Loft have nothing to do with him being a target man – whether it’s the crisp finish last night or the backheel assist for KVV at Oldham, the best moments from him have involved getting the ball down on the grass. His aerial ability is pretty limited and it’s starting to look like we’ve not been playing to his strengths all season by booting the ball long up to him.
I disagree about him rarely losing the ball to 1 defender – from what I’ve seen, he often doesn’t even challenge and when he does he is easily beaten in the air. But like I say, I think we are starting to see that that isn’t really his game.
January 27, 2021 at 11:58 am #201825I see Cordner made his debut last night in a defence that let in 3 playing a team below us. Lost 3 in a row at home so recent recovery stalled.
January 27, 2021 at 1:27 pm #201835How often has a single striker ever really worked for us other than in the odd game?
Not all that many other League Two clubs do it – even away from home.January 27, 2021 at 3:39 pm #201841The most successful was probably Ivan Toney in his second spell with us…played most of his games as a single striker with a three of Morris, Holmes and Adelakun behind him.
January 27, 2021 at 5:40 pm #201849The difference then BLT was that Holmes, Morris and Haks were good enough and smart enough to get up and support Toney at the right times.
They also carried a genuine goal threat themselves. -
