Watching online, that felt like two points dropped, despite Boston hitting the woodwork late on. Will we regret not killing this one off…?

It’s actually a point gained on Tamworth who lost.

Shudda, wudda, cudda, I get it but the reality is we are a point nearer Tamworth from the same games played then we were at 19.45, I’ll take that, I’ll always take a point away from home as a positive.

After watching the game on my computer, in my opinion it was a lucky point gained, simply because Boston were easily the better team on the night, and had many more chances to have won the game maybe 3-1.
I know that Scunny scored the first goal, but what other chances did they create, on the night Boston were a lot quicker on the ball, Scunny gave away countless balls throughout the match, and deserved the three points. How can a team play like they did in last weeks two matches, and then put in a performance like tonight, this was a match were we should have gone for the three points, but being true, we were lucky to get one. Lets get back to winning ways on Saturday, and with Tamworth playing third in the league South Sheilds, we have a chance to gain ground, but six away games without an away win in this league is not automatic form is it???

Clunan didn’t look right which is more then likely down to the fact he’s lacking match fitness and recently had a sickness bug. Butterfield looked cream crackered which is understandable as he’s played a lot of football and isn’t getting any younger.

We were poor tonight but important thing is we didn’t lose. Onwards and upwards. Max is now fit and Roberts is near a first team appearance. Clunan has 90 mins under his belt, plus Law and Smith have gotten more minutes.

One thing I will say is I don’t think Whitehall suits to playing as the lone striker away from home. Whitehall isn’t the best at holding it up at home but least we get plenty of midfield runners up to make it that bit easier for him.

At the very least Bennett should be on the bench. I don’t really rate Bennett but with this system away from home when it’s tight and you need a striker to hold the ball up, I think he’d be better suited than Whitehall.

Whitehall reminds me of Tom Hopper in the sense he has the size and physicality but despite that he doesn’t really have the mentality to scrap for the ball and do the ugly side. I think to get the best out of him and Elliot they need to be partnered but Dean won’t do that and to be fair last time we did try that we looked terrible and too open.

Shoddy performance all round. Shambolic defending, even Fitz spilled a few, Boston looked like scoring every time they attacked and we’d have conceded plenty against a better team. Midfield didn’t function, all miles off their best. Fitz regularly kicking long, presumably under instruction, didn’t help. (Another new Jimmy tactic that didn’t work?) Whitehall hardly kept the ball and therefore didn’t bring others into play. Two shots on target all game I think, not good enough and a lucky point IMO.

Spot on WG about Whitehall as a lone frontman, couldn’t agree more his hold up play for a big guy is really poor, he would rather take a dive then compete for the ball on his own.

I listened to it on the Radio and agree with some people who went or watched it on TV, we are either losing or drawing away from home so why not have a go away from home playing the football we have played against Spennymoor and Bishop Stortford and try to blow teams away, it isn’t like we are having an occasional away win.

In the end we were lucky to come away with one point, not that many were bothered about the one point, drab effortless performance most of them couldn’t be arsed to get out of second gear, what with the change of team we won 6-0 on Saturday Clunan was not fit enough to start that game and discredit on him for not letting the management know, its a team game and he should know better. If any scouts were there doubt any would be interested in any of our players, Watching away is abysmal and has been all season need to take a gung ho approach even if we lose got to be better than what is on offer up to now.

‘Clunan was not fit enough to start that game and discredit on him for not letting the management know, its a team game and he should know better.’

Do you know for definite he didn’t let management know? You seem quick to scapegoat him when the reality is he may have been encouraged to start. Catch 22 but unfair to blame him alone.

For clarity, I read your post. You are blaming Clunan alone for fielding himself without any management influence. Not suggesting you are blaming him alone for the performance and result.

We are second in the league, despite all the off field problems, freak weather, dire refs, shithousery etc and it is a tough league. These teams like Boston aren’t just going to roll over for us on their own turf. Whitehall is either excellent or awful, Dean should just ask the ref to book him for dissent in the first minute because only then does he get on and play. Evans had an off night. Anyone really decent like Smith just gets targeted. It is going to be a real slog getting to the end of this season.

Never mind about teams rolling over for us they can see we’re there for the taking.

Awaywego, we’ve still beaten Tamworth away, lost 0-1 to Curzon (with a freak weather event), beat Rushall 3-0, got draws at Alfreton, Chorley and Boston and lost to Chester, (which Dean admitted was a shite performance). What I’m saying is in a tough League with the pantomime off field, injuries, suspensions and crap refs, I don’t think that is too bad.

Awful conditions give over, bit of fog for the first half not like the players
couldn’t see from one side of the pitch to the other and the pitch was fine.

TJO, I get all that if all you go for is getting points at any cost than that’s fair enough, that is not for me 46 Tamworth games the way we played no thanks one or two you expect that, all some of us are saying the away games have been shite in the main, a good performance at Alfreton being the exception. And we want and demand better.

Lower non league night match I was at last week, I couldn’t see the other side of the pitch well at times from the stand due to fog. The players could though (spoke to one after). They just got on with the game anyway tbh and didn’t seem to bother them.

My thinking is that, sadly, this isn’t a good level of football and it is the level we are at so we aren’t good. I get we demand better but this league is shite and if we have to grind out points away to escape then I will take it to not be here next season. You could put Man City in this league and your teams like Tamworth, Buxton, Curzon, Boston would turn it into a scrap and make it difficult for them.

The NLN is far better than I had expected.

Well going to be an interesting 17 day spell coming up starting on the 4th November – we have 6 games !

Going to put pressure on all clubs in or around the leagues top 7 and could be a great opportunity to open a gap at the top. Would like to see same formation and tactics maintained throughout and hopefully have a good points return and unbeaten.
