Well, how much longer can the football club continue with gate numbers like todays 2,112 ?, taking it that todays weather was nice and dry, and about 16 degrees C, what are these going to be in January and February if foggy, wet and 5C or 6C, and with Cox still in charge dropping everyone back into our penalty area for the last 30 mins of games?

Who is going to provide the cash for continuation of the club, now that we have no assets to borrow against, and already owe the football league £1 million???

Sammy, the entertaiment value is not there, when Cox has gone I will be back in the Cluggy, but to watch the team playing under his instructions just does not appeal to me, by the looks of the present gates, there are many more with the same opinion.

But Barton, if you’re concerned about ‘how long the football club can continue with gate numbers like 2112’ then surely you would turn up regardless of the entertainment value? I’m sure you’ve supported SUFC for a number of years but arguably the club needs you now more than ever.

And for what it’s worth, yesterday was pretty entertaining, even the last 20 minutes we defended hard but still had chances. It made the full time celebrations even better.

agree Samways, a lot of people are making comments yet where not at the games, it is OK blaming Swann or Cox, and though I agree with most of the reasons you have to accept if supporters stay away there soon won’t be a Scunthorpe United, or we will be playing another two leagues down.

and I was at the game yesterday, but didn’t enjoy the last 20 minutes.

Never thought I’d see a time when gates consistently fell below 2,200 on a Saturday.

With the state of the club at the moment I won’t begrudge those that choose to stay away. Hopefully an upturn in form will entice a few hundred back.

It was there yesterday, played some good football and could have scored more if it weren’t for incorrect decisions. I was pleasantly surprised, everyone on that pitch gave 100% effort.

Well I was in a crowd of 3,146 at the LNER Community Stadium in York

So a thousand more for a National League North match! I notice Notts County v Stockport County drew over 7,400 supporters and there were 6,470 at Blundell Park.

Yet Forest Green who are top of the league had a similar gate to us!

Traditional fan base size? Product on offer? Position in league?

Doesn’t seem to be any one factor. More a combination of things.

At York’s new ground yesterday the community spirit was ver much in evidence. Something I feel has been lacking at Scunthorpe lately.

I was in attendance to give my support to the team who put in a performance and really deserved the win. I am not ennamered by the management from top to bottom but I will always support our team.

Like I have said before I rely on the owners to bankroll the club, not bothered about the debt, it will never be mine unless I win big on the Euro lottery, so attendances are of no concern to me, I will go to my first home game since the friendlies on Saturday more for the grandkids than me and will see how we go before attending again, Ps hope I won’t be leaving early again.

Last two home performances have been much improved Awaywego so it would be an ideal time for you to give the Iron another look down at GP, don’t bring the flares though, stick to normal trousers 😂

So a few fans that braved another home game at GP are saying that I should still attend just to keep the club afloat, so although 80 years of age, I should go to sit in the car park from 13-45hrs till prior to kickoff, in order to get a blue badge space near the Cluggy turnstiles, because of walking difficulty, sit in the Cluggy for nearly two hours watching boring defensive football, then drive back to Barton feeling very annoyed that I have wasted half a day, when I could have sat in comfort of my house during that period of time, and when it is shown, watch it on i-follower.

You are saying you enjoyed the game yesterday, maybe so, but what about the other 9 out of 10 games that have been shite???, confirmed by yourselves on this forum, and what I consider a stab in the back, is that the club owner and chairman cannot be bothered his arse to attend!!

No one has supported SUFC more than me ever since league entry in 1951 (apart from this season when I did not renew my season ticket, one of my better moves), so please do not complain at my support of our club, and if and when things change for the better, and enjoyment can once again be gained by attending, I shall be there all being well, but presently there is little or no reason to attend, but at the same time, I hope you guys still enjoy the games, and things get a lot better, but with these management team in charge, I really cannot see it happening, at the same time, I hope that I am wrong!!

You’re the one complaining about how long the current attendances can last for. The new chief executive seems to be more proactive in gaining supporter feedback so I suggest you contact her via email regarding the blue badge issue.

The answer to your original question is that Swann will have to cover the losses this season and then the budget will get slashed further next year.

I would imagine the club are not to bothered about your non attendance BS, you don’t come across as someone who gets behind the team.

No didn’t see the Chairman yesterday and his car wasn’t on the car park. Its blatantly obvious he has no interest in Scunthorpe United. The reason our gates have plummeted so quickly is not just connected with football on matchdays but the fact that SWANN has alienated so many of our supporters by his actions and also inaction and being absent from the majority of matches this season but then criticising our fans for not attending. The taking ownership of our stadium and assets was the final straw for many and I fear many will not return while SWANN is still here. The renaming of the stadium was bad enough and many think his plans for our football club are very questionable and things could be going according to plan for him.

NLI, the renaming of the stadium enabled Swanny to put £2 million into the club in sponsorship without breaking any rules (at the moment) why would you object to that?.

Awaywego (UTI-99), you always seem to access information that normal supporters do not hear about, like many think, are you an employee of the club?

So you are saying that what the team offer is entertaining and enjoyable enough that gives fans any reason to get behind the them ????.

On the pitch – a few green shoots are starting to appear.

Lets not get carried away…whilst the result was good from Saturday’s match, we were heavily indebted to Rory for a couple of top drawer saves in the first half, as was the same in the previous match. Sure it is a welcome relief to get 4 points out of the last two matches, but the margins have been so close it easily could of been 0 points!

With Colchester, Salford, Mansfield, Orient and Bradford all coming up before the end of November, the next month will confirm where we are likely to find ourselves in the league.

As for attendances: Who can blame the fans for not turning up. The board have spent the last few years alienating the core of the fanbase, which has driven many away from the club. All football fans care passionately about their respective clubs, and Scunthorpe United fans are no exception. If fans who have been fallowing the Iron for decades are no longer turning up, you know it’s not just down to the results on the pitch. I suspect that the only way we will see a return to 3,000 plus gates is if the club actually start performing well on the field, or the board start to deliver on their promises; neither of which look likely right now!

I’ve never really understood this line of thought – a goalkeeper is part of your team and he’s allowed to play well. I get that you don’t want to rely on the last line of defence but we never complained about Joe Murphy being brilliant during our promotions with him, did we?

If Rory Watson is playing well, that’s got to be a positive, particularly given how much stick he’s had in recent seasons.

Fully agree with this, let’s point the finger in the right direction.

The gates are down because the fans / supporters have lost trust in the board.

Many went to the forums where promises were made regarding the club, the financial security of it. All the grandiose schemes they had because they were ‘professionals’ they knew what they were doing.

And that attitude has delivered just over 2100 gates ! Yet the fans got the blame for that. Responsibilty still not owned by the person who created it.

So Ferrite—I agree with what you are saying in one way “that the goalkeeper is expected to make some good saves, because that is his job”. But as Daz was saying, the result could easily have gone the other way pal, and I was not present at the game, so you obviously have a right to comment more than myself, where as I can only go by what I read on the BBC Report, I appreciate that point.

But with the Scunny goalkeeper probably being the teams MOM, which most agree with, the other factors being on the BBC report that possesion was 40% Scunny and 60% Crawley, this added to the satistic of Scunny having one corner and Crawley ten corners, maybe suggests that Scunny’s performance was an improvement, but they could so easily have not won the game. Please do not slag me off guys, because as I stated, I was not at the game.

But all the same it was a nice three points to get, and keeps us in with a chance of getting away from the bottom, but we need a few more wins so as to show up on the League Table.

Father been going since the 60’s. He went to see his town team play in far lower leagues than the iron the other week. Think he enjoyed it.
At the weekend he decided to paint his fence. He said it was more fun.
Think there’s only so much shite you can watch and put up with.

Me also been going since he took me mid 70’s. No enthusiasm anymore and it’s a waste of an afternoon.
The whole experience has gone down the drain over the last 5 years or so.
I have better things to do now.

Crap football, poor managers, run down stadium, and numerous projects that never take off.
It’s going to be a long way back to recovering a couple of hundred let alone thousand supporters.

I’m sure there’s many more like us.

I stopped due to my losing trust in the leadership.

I based it on 8 years of comments / statements from the Chairman starting from that 1st Forum, in a format the Chairman wanted. I heard statements about the financial security of the club what would NEVER be at risk etc, etc !!

The gates are where they are because few believe the Chairmans latest statements. For me if I started going again I am endorsing/backing the chairmans actions, I will not do that.

Then in some of his statements the stayaways are the ones responsible for any further decline, that the club will be unable to improve the squad ! I found that an insult when you look at the shocking waste of club money on the players recruited using his recruitment plan !! Despite continued evidence that the way we handled any possible contract extensions was flawed we continued, alienated players and ended up with huge turnover of players every season and declining league position was maintained.

No matter the quality of our players over the decades we had heart, the team battled, they fought for the shirt. A win is always good, defeats not so but you cheered fighters either way.

Now ? That heart has been ripped away.
