There you go again, Gurney. I’m asked by your good self and at least one other how I could make certain statements and yet have voted Remain. I take the time to reply and bingo … I’m not only lying but, because I’ve explained, I’m also self -absorbed. It seems to me that my ‘self -absorption’ is only rivalled by your pathological fascination with me!
Although my views on the Monarchy are fairly moderate .. I even conceded that there is an irrationality about the institution,.. I made the interesting observation that for some a largely powerless and symbolic Monarch may be more acceptable than the very real power wielded by a distance elite. No evasion at all.
Then come the insinuations, not for the first time, of racism. Yesterday I spent most of the day packing aid for Armenia with Joseph, an Eritrean who fled after multiple arrests and imprisonments. On Wednesday, because of car issues, I gave a chunk of time taxiing my wife to her voluntary work teaching English to Refugees and Asylum seekers .. several of whom have become our friends. I repeat that we have an unofficial ‘adopted daughter’ from Vietnam. My middle child is married to a Jew. I guess I’m just ‘self absorbed’ for offering this glimpse into my week and life. And, for you, I’m probably just lying anyway.
As for ‘disgusting’ and ‘far right’ websites .. you seem to be the expert. I stay away from stuff like that. I recommend that you do the same!
For what it’s worth I am of the opinion that because you detest so much of what I offer on the Forum you’ve created a kind of ‘fantasy profile’ of me. A man with ‘ strong religious belief married to truly dreadful and dangerous far-right attitudes’ with a smattering of narcissism and racism. With that kind of target you can throw whatever projections, presumptions and downright untruths around …and it’s all justified in what appears to me to be your small minded, mean spirited world. When the tactic of associating me with another poster .. even claiming that I am posting under another guise ..seems to be irritating others as much as me .. then you associate me with Bucks to see if that will gain traction.
Why not go back to the drawing board, Gurney. Rather than expending such effort and energy ripping into what offends you … whether ‘people like me’ or the other targets ..political, religious etc why not present your own personal vision of a healthy society and how to get there. We already know from your recent post that you don’t approve of charitable work but you rarely pull back the veil on what your programme to benefit mankind would be. I know it’s easier to find fault with others rather than putting one’s own ideas and beliefs up for scrutiny. Believe me ..it can seem frustrating and costly at times, especially when jibes, strawmanning and lies are flying around .. but it is the best way to go. So far, I have to confess, I’m not finding much in your approach to attract me to the kind of Society that you might be likely to advocate. I would be looking for more generosity and tolerance, less labelling and more genuine pursuit of truth for example.
OK. Enough from me. I would love to elicit a more amicable response from you and have a more mutually respectful exchange …but it seems difficult to get there.
