As a former concrete tester, I can tell you Dr Desai in his letter is spon on. No way would I deem that shite to be proper concrete! I çan imagine how quickly it slumps in a testing cone with all that air in it. And after 28 days drying it would crush like eggshells. Proper concrete for proper buildings! Just to add, all the buildings I tested concrete on have stayed up!

Did hear some bod questioning whether the 30 year serviceable life was real. Wrong product, wrong application. Firms no longer in existence.

Have they checked the “concrete” steps at Glanford Park? Under greater stress than usual with all those goals going in.

There were warnings about this years ago, but the Tories will ignore that for convenience and to avoid taking responsibility for anything.

They have told us how important it is to be small state and stating that short termist fiscal responsibility is necessary for the economy. Sunak cutting school repair budgets for economic management. Yet this has, again, led to long term pain and crumbling infrastructure. It’s all very well and good moaning about not trusting government to address problems, because institutions are ‘useless’, but the shrinking of the state and lack of such institutions (bureaucratic as they may be) has led to issues of this nature. This issue is just one highlight of how small statist, ‘more with less’ arguments just doesn’t work.

We need insfrastructure for our vital services, and that requires management.

A staunch Tory would spin a straw man argument about the supposed incompetence and laziness of public sector workers, on high salaries and decent pensions, being the real problem.

Mrs NI has been retired eight years and the school where she was deputy head was falling down then!

I see the sun of £150 million has been bandied about. Seems like a drop in the ocean compared to the billions wasted on Brexit, HS2 and useless PPE.
