After 18 months without football and I for one cannot wait for the season to start, after last years close call I now things have been difficult and there is a dislike for certain members of the board.
But I believe we should for the sake of the club we love as supporters get behind the manager and the players! Try and get rid of this toxic atmosphere and try to help get the club back to where it has been previously.
There is plenty of time to start voicing our discontent if things are looking bad, but surely after all that as gone on in the last 18 months we should get right behind the manager and his players now.
(Note they are now his players)Yes I know we haven’t gone out and signed 8/9 players but that was never going to happen, but the ones we are signing are experienced players of a good age to help the younger players.
I believe we need a keeper and a left back to cover rory (or be first choice) and mason, a lot of us wanted the younger players to get a chance last season and I think this will happen this season.
So august the 7th is the date I have circled on the calendar as a day we finally got football back, we should IMO be down at the ground that day and give the players the support we have all missed giving during the last 18 months.
18 months that at times seemed to just get worse and worse with no end in sight, let’s try and banish these bad times from our memory and try to help those in the dugouts and on the pitch. UTI

July 6, 2021 at 9:38 pm #209858The toxic atmosphere as you call it hasn’t been created by anyone posting on this board. It’s been “Bru-ing” up for three seasons now, and has been brought to a head by the owner’s decision to sell the ground and land to raise revenue.
This has been exasperated by the lack of communication between supporters and the chairman, and falling out with both the local press and local government.
Jem Karacan’s podcast gave us an insight into why our recent seasons have been so poor.
You say this is Cox’s team but is it really? There are still a good number of players on the books who arrived ahead of him. We also can’t know if there have been any players Cox wanted who the ownership have knocked back.
You are right that we still need further recruitment, and whilst you say it’s a new season and a chance to banish the bad times, we can’t be certain that things will magically change for the better.
I hope it does but I’m not overly optimistic.
July 7, 2021 at 8:32 am #209875Have to disagree, BI66.
We had a terribly top heavy squad last year.
The club has correctly decided to tackle that by trimming out dead wood and any troublemakers they could and those who could not cut the mustard.
But 19 is an incredible amount to lose.
I think most on here agree with the number reduction – it makes sense in a variety of ways. However, even with 8 players in, it means we would still be 11 players down. Surely, that figure cannot be reduced any further?
It is hard to see any hope of even limited success on those numbers unless, for once, we happen to be very lucky with injuries.
I suppose that GK, forward, wide man is the absolute minimum – and where does the cover come from for LB?

July 7, 2021 at 9:26 am #209876Our player turnover and recruitment led us to where we are. I came across a dec 2019 programme. When I checked we had 30 players listed – as of last week there are 3 left !! Watson Hallam & Pugh.
Last season the failures were allowed to continue failing by being selected game after game. Check how many start the 2021/2022 season on 1 yr deals.

July 7, 2021 at 9:35 am #209877Northumbiron i’am not saying the toxic atmosphere is down to this site and I deliberately didn’t point out certain peoples names, I agree with lots that’s said on this site.
Scunthorpe United is the club I have supported for 47 years (since I was 7) and now is one the times it needs my support more then to give the team the best chance of a decent start to the season as we all now results breeds confidence in players.

July 7, 2021 at 9:41 am #209878The toxicity has been created by one person and one person only.
From the moment he came to the club many of us thought he was full of himself and his own importance. Many other supporters bought into Ernest and his claims.
Sadly the latter group have now joined the former and the majority of the supporters have no time for this man or anything he says or promises.
Taking the ground was the last straw, when it was his money he could make all the wrong choices he liked. Turns out it was our money and then we resented all the wrong choices he made at our expense.
Now he is stuck in a corner, having taken what was not his to take with nobody listening to him anymore and nobody believing him either.
He is also serving up youth which did not work last season and he even had the audacity to blame some supporters for wanting that.
We are football fans who love the beautiful game and will not be mugged off by Ernest anymore.
Its time alright time for him to go.

July 7, 2021 at 9:43 am #209879Sanfran 1 year deals are not the worse thing in the world, Morecambe and Accrington use this model and they have been successful recently especially Accrington who at one point last season looked capable of getting promotion.
The two above offer deals with options of another year so it’s up to the player if he plays well he knows the deal is on the table, we offered and gave out long term contracts that certain players just abused them and almost stopped playing and certainly didn’t care.

July 7, 2021 at 9:50 am #209880I admire your optimism and rallying call.
But it should be coming from somebody at the club, who cant because it is falling on deaf ears.
The squad is shite on paper and will be once again shite on the pitch. Apart from Loft where is there a regular goal scorer?
Oh and just for good measure it will be all the supporters fault for not backing Ernest’s great vision.

July 7, 2021 at 10:04 am #209883Everyone has they own opinion on things and if people are so against certain people at the club they have the option not to attend games, myself I just want to see some football in grounds again giving my support to the team.
July 7, 2021 at 10:55 am #209884We have had testing times in the past and pure loyalty to the club drove us on and kept us supporting.
Ernest has made it all about himself and we have no loyalty to him whatsoever, hence many dejected supporters whose loyalty has been abused once too often.
Its not our club anymore and we do not feel cherished as supporters but more a commodity who will keep accepting and stumping up the cash.
Wrong.

July 7, 2021 at 11:02 am #209885The problem is that the fans are all seeing the creation of a failing model; they cannot see how it can possibly work.
That then means that if all is okay at the club, there really should be reassurances to thousands of Iron supporters. Maybe a few explanations of what the club is doing or trying to do. Particularly against the backcloth of ‘a squad complete from the 31st May’.
Communication with supporters has been very poor in recent years – now it has become non-existent.If those of us in a near panic situation over the club we love have got to the point where many hundreds – and possibly even thousands – have had enough of this treatment combined with zero entertainment and who are going to vote with their feet – the club’s future will be jeopardised.
Two questions which the club should answer but probably won’t:
1) How many fewer season tickets have been sold than on 7th July 2020 and
2) Does anyone believe that there is the remotest chance of even an 1,800 gate in the first league match here?Fewer fans + less money for squad strengthening = a club destined to drop further down the leagues.
I am not yet at a point where I am accepting that there is a conspiracy going on here – but I am finding it increasingly difficult to gainsay it.July 7, 2021 at 11:15 am #209886I’ve only been around for 25 years which is significantly less than alot of you. I don’t remember the dark days of the 70’s that often get refered to but I’ve sat through some shit before. Some bad seasons, bad managers and bad squads.
This is different. I don’t see any way out or a glimmer of hope.
I don’t feel like the club I loved and grew up supporting exists anymore. It feels like someone has killed my wife and is now walking around my house in her clothes begging me to care about them.

July 7, 2021 at 12:56 pm #209894Feel like giving up on the whole sorry show myself. It continues to be taken to hell in a hand cart. No one is interested in protesting about it and those that suggest it are ignored or mocked. What is the point? Can’t see anything else but a sad slow death with less and less people clinging on to some sort of hope along with the deluded who refuse to acknowledge the actual state of affairs. That said, I admire your attitude BI66 and good luck with it.

Support the 11 players on the pitch at every game. They represent Scunthorpe United whether you like it or not.
It’s really that simple.

Glad it’s that simple for you. For many others, it isn’t. As for Einstein-a-go-go’s panel news; is it April 1st?

Will those selected to sit on the Fans Panel be the same people chosen to ask prepared questions at the Fans Forum?Fans not customers.

It’s really that simple.I’ve said before I support the club, can’t help it, but I cannot support players that don’t care – they don’t deserve it. Perhaps some of them needed reminding that they’re representing Scunthorpe United and not just turning up on match days to collect their money.

And Sweeney Todd was just a barber!
Just watch the game, concentrate on the eleven players. Don’t look anywhere else. Nothing is happening off the pitch. The ground hasn’t been sold, we’re not heading for non-league. Just watch the players in their pretty tie & dye tops.

Or that moment in the Wizard of Oz. “Pay no attention to the man behind the screen, I am the great and powerful Wizard of Oz ” eg. Ernest Prawn.
