Never mind atheists, but Christian, Muslim and Hindu scientists are embarrassed by creationist misunderstanding of physics.
September 6, 2023 at 7:34 pm #271192The deity’s universe came from MKM, well ‘he’ must have needed something to work with. I don’t think so but perhaps BPG’s God created the universe from nothing, I’ll wager he dare not say the same about science.
September 6, 2023 at 9:27 pm #271197If your religious beliefs conflict with science, then tough shit!
The Universe is not going to suddenly rearrange itself to comfort your ignorance.
September 6, 2023 at 10:14 pm #271205I will have to believe the universe came from nothing, then!😂
September 6, 2023 at 10:59 pm #271210God created the universe, and Ogle wasn’t playing that guy onside. All makes sense. Empirical evidence not required.
September 6, 2023 at 11:01 pm #271212What next? The Proud Boys aren’t redneck right wing conspiracy theorists?

Do try to educate yourself. It won’t hurt! 😂

Religions love the gaps in our scientific knowledge, and replace the gaps with stories about their deity. As the gaps close thanks to scientific advancement, the power of their deity diminishes (the stories about Adam and Eve, and Noah are no longer required – given the knowledge about evolution and geological records). The gap around the universe coming into being remains a gap, and doubt we will ever know for sure -we have a good idea of how things work after the first few moments. But not knowing how it started (part of a multiverse, and other hypotheses) doesn’t prove the existence of any wholly goats.
September 8, 2023 at 10:49 pm #271335…’ doubt we will ever know for sure..’
As a Christian I am of the conviction that you ..and everyone else .. will eventually ‘know’ for sure. I do recognise the logic of your approach 50p but would, respectfully, like to throw in a couple of my own observations.
The first is that whilst the advance of Science undoubtedly ‘closes gaps’ there are some obvious gaps that the Scientific method can’t address. I am thinking particularly of the insatiable appetite of humans to find meaning, the metaphysical conundrum of morality and conscience and, of course, the swiftly approaching evidence of both our limitations …death.
The essence of Christianity is that ‘knowledge’ in these areas is not apprehended by intellect or study ..but by an intrusive and benevolent unveiling from another realm. This is the initiative of the God I have come to know who takes the initiative to reveal himself. Our responsibility is to respond when this reality is presented to us. Hence the reassurance that ‘if you genuinely seek then you SHALL find.’ The wonderful and unique claim of Christianity is that this God made the clearest revelation of his character by coming to the earth to be reviled, humiliated and killed ..and then showed the shallowness even of death itself by resurrection. It happened to me just after University some 47 years ago after a time of dismantling and questioning. I ‘sought’ and DID find .. and believe that you, or any other of the folks reading this, can come to that same place of assurance, security, comfort, meaning and joyous anticipation that is the deepest and best form of ‘knowing.’ This is the ultimate ‘good news’ and I wholeheartedly commend anyone to ask God to reveal Himself.September 8, 2023 at 11:31 pm #271339I don’t want anyone revealing himself to me thank you!
September 8, 2023 at 11:41 pm #271341Of course that’s entirely your choice, NI.

Is this Swann or Hilton / White? Both revered as saviour’s by their disciples
September 9, 2023 at 11:14 am #271355Personally, I think the capabilities of an evolved human mind which enabled us to understand the Universe in a way no other creature can has led to the curiosities over life’s meaning, and moral systems have developed as a response to how to behave in a way befitting for society with empathy being a thing. I don’t think we need God to explain it, but I realise this is a short response to a complex topic.

You were resurrected? Better cancel Easter then.

If there is no God, who cares what you think?
You can’t function without stealing from a Christian worldview.September 10, 2023 at 2:18 am #271427Siderite – “I don’t think we need God to explain it”.

September 10, 2023 at 9:06 am #271440‘If there is no God, who cares what you think?’ Pretty nihilistic from such a fundamental Christian. People who don’t believe in God probably care more about what others think as they’re grounded and focused in this world, this planet and others in it. Christians are more interested in their invented next world

You can’t function without stealing from a Christian worldview.Christianity is stolen from earlier religions, so that argument holds no water!

I think the final sentence is dismissive of some Christians, but does describe some. Thanking for the rest. I can understand how my actions may impact others, so I base my decisions off this.

I’ve said my piece on this topic in general but, respectfully to NI … how is my giving my views on a subject on a forum eroding your choices? To be honest I think this is an indicator of how some perspectives …Christianity being one of them …are in danger being deemed so ‘offensive’ to the modern mind that they shouldn’t be tolerated. Hence when certain views are robustly posted they are simply accepted, opposed or debated …whilst others are ‘being waved in our faces.’
(I guess, NI, in mitigation of your statement .. you may have been aiming your comment more at Bill than me. In general I’m also not an ally of these Video threads and the sour wrangles that ensue and so keep away.On this occasion I just felt the urge to try to shed a bit of light and challenge.September 10, 2023 at 12:27 pm #271465‘Waving it in my face’ is the new ‘ramming it down my throat’. Neither conjure up sedate images though the first seems less aggressive. Amen.
September 10, 2023 at 8:03 pm #271492I was paraphrasing the old gag, “Religion is like a penis. We know you have one and are most likely fond of it. But keep it zipped up and don’t go waving it in our face!”
