Not much social distancing there. Training sessions must be in danger of being broken up by the police as an illegal mass-gathering!
Must be on minimum wage too to fit in with the new salary cap.
August 31, 2020 at 3:15 pm #194139Yes, I thought we were going to operate with a smaller squad. Looks certain that there will be outgoings to get numbers down, have we already signed replacements for Gillead, Eisa, McGahey, KVV and McAtee? Still need 2 more in IMO.
Regarding salary cap, *I think I read that U23s are not included* so we’re probably well under if that’s the case, as plenty of the squad could be on U23 contracts.*Accuracy not guaranteed.
August 31, 2020 at 3:32 pm #194142Under 21s Cass I believe.
August 31, 2020 at 5:01 pm #194148U21’s – I think that is what Mr Swann said
August 31, 2020 at 7:17 pm #194154According to Cox the other day, we’re after an experienced utility players who can play across the back and midfield so we’ll be after at least one more.
The other day we signed Hypolyte..McAtee didn’t play so I wonder if we was brought in because he’s going out ?
On paper anyway it offers more balance because we only had 1 left footed winger in Gillead…we have a decent mix of wide men now.
Ideally I would like a GK but it’s been done to death, I think we’ve all come to terms with Swann not wanting to sign one !
August 31, 2020 at 9:20 pm #194158Gillead left footed?
August 31, 2020 at 10:00 pm #194159Same as you say Cass, it is some size of a squad we now have, surely there must be some players going the other way!! But fair play to Mr Swann, he is not frightened of bringing out the cheque book.
Has anyone heard when supporters are to be admitted to stadiums, surely someone must know by now??
It appears to be a lot like the EFL are with their assisting smaller clubs with some money, it never seems to be agreed what is happening, the season starts next week, and nothing is decided at this late stage!!
I attended the Scunthorpe v Leicester Speedway meeting today with a limit of 600 fans, and it was run perfectly, why cannot football do the same???
August 31, 2020 at 11:31 pm #194161If you attended the speedway today Barton did you read the program notes of Nigel Pearson? These notes were very forthright and to the point basically saying that it should be now down to personal choice if we attend any sporting venues.
I agree with Nigel on this as we have this stupid situation where you can buy food and drink and sit and talk for hours at a pub or restaurant but At sporting venues you cannot have any elite sport going on while your there doing the same thing as you would at a pub or restaurant.
Surely you are at less risk at a sporting venue in the open as you would be in an enclosed pub, I know we are all going through very difficult times but it is a proven fact that sport participation and supporting a team at your chosen sport gives everyone a boost and helps the local economy.
So as mr Pearson says personal Choice should now be the reason you attend or don’t attend sporting venues and let’s try to get back to some sort of normalitySeptember 1, 2020 at 12:27 am #194163Gillead left footed?
They look similar, Gillead and Eisa…. I got confused.
September 1, 2020 at 7:48 am #194164Easy mistake to make, although pretty sure Eisa is right footed too?
September 1, 2020 at 9:55 am #194165Surely you are at less risk at a sporting venue in the open as you would be in an enclosed pub,
This is true. But…
The problem is not just about risk to the individual attendee, it’s about curbing the spread. We’ll have the same problem once the schools go back. The risk to the kids may be minimal but the risk of them carrying it home to infect others will still be present.
Let’s say there are twelve L2 games going on on a weekend and one person at one game tests positive the next day. What happens then? Nothing? One stand closed down? The ground closed down? The toilets closed down? The refreshments kiosk closed down?
The irony is that since the Taylor Report grounds have become all-seater whereas an open terrace would have been easier to manage social distancing wise. Hence the advantage non-league clubs will have.
Personally I’ve no problem going back to SVS and standing at the DRE 2m from a stranger. I’d be less happy about strangers pushing past me to get to their seats in the Cluggy stand.
BS I’d be interested to hear more details of your trip to the speedway. What were the key management points? Did you sit or stand? How were the facilities?
It can and will be done, but simply getting punters to sign a disclaimer is not enough.
September 1, 2020 at 10:43 am #194168I don’t think I’ll be rushing back to GP come October. I’d probably go to a non-league ground like Brigg or Bottesford where there aren’t many people and plenty of open air but I don’t think I’d really be that interested in going to GP. Besides, it’s going to be such an odd experience, so different from what you’re used to, that I’m not sure I’d enjoy it anyway.

Attacking football you mean?
September 1, 2020 at 12:01 pm #194171Cass – so young and yet so cynical.

I’m starting to think it might be more long-ball football looking at the strikers we’ve signed.
September 1, 2020 at 1:07 pm #194175I would sooner see long ball football than being sat back in our penalty area looking for a breakaway and be happy for a point.
And nothing can be worse than that performance against Codsby.

Flatterer!!

Better then being a flat liner eh Cass, although one day we will all be one of them.😜

I wonder how many people will share a similar view; by the time supporters are allowed back it will be nearly 7 months since competitive football; plenty of time to form new habits, appreciate a healthier bank balance and generally just lose interest.
In regards to Non-league: Bottesford are home tomorrow night in the FA cup extra- preliminary.
September 1, 2020 at 10:33 pm #194183I have been to both speedway meetings in Scunthorpe now Northumbiron where 600 spectators were allowed to attend and upto today I have not been notified of any cases of Covid.
As we have around that amount of season ticket holders I personally think the risk is minimal, we will be told to wear masks and stay in our seats as much as possible.
We should IMO Also be allowed to bring in our own food and drink As long as you take away your rubbish after the game, follow social distancing and generally try to keep apart as much as possible I believe we would be ok.
And If we are allowed back to games it is still a personal choice if you attend or do not attend games.September 2, 2020 at 10:35 am #194189s we have around that amount of season ticket holders I personally think the risk is minimal, we will be told to wear masks and stay in our seats as much as possible.

And If we are allowed back to games it is still a personal choice if you attend or do not attend games. That all sounds quite sensible, I just wonder how easy it will be to monitor when you look at how some people behave in football grounds. Especially if you have, say, 1,500-2,000 people. NI mentions that standing would make social distancing easier and it does in some ways but not in other – you have few real barriers to stop people congregating in stands and how many stewards are going to want to break that up?
Personally, I doubt the season will be finished with crowds in the stands. As number of cases inevitably rise during winter, I think people will be banned from grounds again. I hope I’m wrong.
Interestingly, when it comes to smoking, football grounds are generally seen as “indoor” spaces rather then outdoors, I wonder if this is how the experts will view them when it comes to the risks of transmission of this damned virus?
September 2, 2020 at 12:13 pm #194192“This damned virus” Five times more people are dying from seasonal flu than from covid at the moment let’s get over this silly mass hysteria. And get back to footy because if we don’t it won’t be there next year.
September 2, 2020 at 12:48 pm #194193Don’t see any signs of hysteria, just a large helping of common sense amongst the majority of people. Exceptions being the government, the ‘I’m immune’ youngsters and the “couldn’t care less” brigade.

Is that true? It seems unlikely.
Also, tens of thousands of people have died from this virus DESPITE all the precautions taken, imagine the toll if it were left to run freely.
September 2, 2020 at 2:46 pm #194195yes its true Ferrite, the previous seven weeks from the 11th of august there were more deaths from flu,in the main it turns to pneumonia just the the same as covid, strange disease covid cases rising but deaths rates falling,Imo let it run free at the moment to get that herd immunity.
September 2, 2020 at 3:13 pm #194197I believe the group noun for sheep is “flock” rather than “herd”.
And if we’re relying on common sense then I’m afraid that what the past five months have shown is that the Great British public and the not so great British Government are severely lacking in that commodity!
September 2, 2020 at 3:14 pm #194198Ps. During the last 5 weeks no one as been admitted to Scunthorpe General with covid, so why would anyone not go and watch scunny who normally attend? other than hysteria.
September 2, 2020 at 3:19 pm #194199Err!
To keep it that way?

Don’t waste your time NI
September 2, 2020 at 4:20 pm #194203Why do have a different face to the one you have for Scunny NI. You went out to the pub just before lockdown even though you knew it wasn’t right you’ve also been to Harrogate ya know that tourist town,( hope you had a good time) and yet when it comes to scunny we must avoid.
