A true Iron legend for us oldies. Hat trick in 5 mins against Luton was unbelievable.
Ken Jones in goal, Noddy Neale centre half and Barry up front was a propper spine for the team. Nearly made first division.

Great memories of Barrie, a true great, it was great to watch him play each week, by best memory of Barrie was our 4-0 win at Leeds Utd, with him scoring all 4 goals. Jack Charlton stated that Barrie was one of the best centre forwards he had seen. I used to go drinking with Ken Jones down at the Barclay Hotel on a Saturday night, he was a very good keeper, and also a very good drinker, he often spent the night sleeping in his outside loo after being locked out for the night by his wife, so he used to tell us ha ha!, those were the days when it was a pleasure attending matches, I never missed an home game for years, and also attended 80% of away games.

Early 60s, I recall a 5-1 win over Plymouth and Barrie legally shoulder-charging Leiper into the back of his net at the Donny Road end. Barrrie was a great player.

Inspector, that 5-1 win against Plymouth was my first Scunthorpe home game, Barrie scored 4 and had 1 disallowed

I was just a bit too young for Barrie first time round ..but fanatical by the time he came back. I remember some guy near me in Fox Street at the Luton game saying ..probably fairly ..’Aye but he’s not the player he was!’ We won 8-1 and Barrie scored 5.

There were some great games in the early 60s on Friday nights.

Same here JI, remember the Luton game but I was only ten so it’s a little vague in places. Do remember the Luton keeper looking thoroughly pissed off with proceedings, aswell he might 😂
