I haven’t called anyone racist, but you are getting upset and outraged over that from my points. Perhaps you should look at yourselves in the mirror before calling others ‘snowflakes.’ I have just argued my case, as is my right, for why I don’t agree with booing. It seems those who want freedom of expression don’t want to be criticised, which goes against their supposed principle.

Anyway, I’ll leave it at that. I agree with NI that this has descended into squabble, and I am not pretending to be innocent with regards to that.

Seems to me if you criticize those who make anti-racist gestures – as with taking the knee – you are defending the status quo.

Although you might argue ‘there are better ways to do this’ and explain why you don’t like it at football, by shouting your disapproval you’re criticizing those who take a stand against racism, and for that, people will call you racist.

Course, hardly anyone admits to being a racist, and accusations often end with infantile comments about why making racist remarks isn’t really racist at all, often done with a barely concealed smirk – a racist hallmark.

But look, instead of squabbling amongst ourselves it’s time we recognized there are huge injustices and inequalities in society which urgently need addressing, whether racial, gender, social or environmental, and instead of criticizing those who try to make life fairer for those at the bottom, we should direct our anger towards those at the top.

Christ, this is a depressing thread.

So many people claim to be in favour of equality between people of all colours, creeds, backgrounds, whatever. But given the opportunity to demonstrate that, they resort to point scoring, nit-picking and whataboutery.

And on top of all that, we have a government of bigots who refuse to condemn racist behaviour and embolden the most hate-filled people in our society. Without better and braver leadership, I have no idea how we get out of this depressing cycle.

Can I just apologise if my own behaviour has been unbecoming in this thread. I was just frustrated by what I saw as deflection from the issue, but I got sucked into the squabble and don’t think that helped. I realise it isn’t about my points being correct, and I wasn’t intending to do that, but as with the internet debates can quickly descend if not careful because of the clash between egos.

I wasn’t trying to boost my own ego, I was trying to argue against what I disagreed with. I may have got carried away and my intentions for this may have been clouded by frustrations, so for that I reiterate my apology.

Is there any chance of moving this topic onto the non-football section please, it now seems to be going round in circles, with the same people saying the same things over and over again.

At the end of the day, there is nothing what so ever forum members can do about the situation, it seems as if it is the players that abuse other players that is the problem, so it should be taken up with the Football League management to ban these people, that is if there is 100% proof of the happening.

These sort of things usually start off as arguments, then demonstratopns leading to rioting, and finally this gives the protesters to commence their usual looting. This is the football section but it would be better on the non-ootball section.

Heath won’t be impressed with you nastiness there BRI, can’t agree with the squabbling, it’s been a quite lively debate from both sides, I deliberately didn’t start the post till 22hrs after the event of the booing to see if anyone else would post anything, But nobody did and didn’t feel it right not to avoid the subject, so imo it’s been a worthwhile post,just because your powers of persuasion have failed on me and others doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have got involved I for one have appreciated your contribution and everyone’s else’s,( well ok maybe not Xxxs think he on drugs).

Ok, Awaywego. Thank-you for that post. I just felt that it got towards bickering towards the end, and I don’t think I was innocent in that.

Through this thread my intention was to try and lay out why I think players taking the knee is supportable and can be separated from the worse elements to BLM, especially as time has gone on and attention to the racism black players are still subjected to has become more in focus.

I stand by my case, but I appreciate that not everyone will agree with me and have no desire to control people’s thoughts. I just feel a bit frustrated when I feel people have tried to infer that my criticism of their point is me calling them a racist, while trying to make it sound like I am just dismissing them as people when I have tried to engage with the points at times.

If it helps in any way, I take back my rescinding of an apology to you now.
