Increasingly, it’s depressing how things are spiralling downward. Today’s match was appalling – again – and I think we have to face the fact that we’re going to be stuck in this division for a generation – occasionally flirting with success (ie. an upwards trajectory) but it never actually happening… a bit like it was for years trapped in Division 4 in the bad old good old bad old days… (’til Lawsy came and got things going).

December 21, 2024 at 8:52 pm #295862We won’t be going anywhere soon unfortunately.
Still too many thinking our former league Status entitles us to walk the league which it doesn’t3 users thanked author for this post.
December 22, 2024 at 12:31 am #295874Yep, if only the Radio Humberside fans forum had been a few weeks later.
We could have challenged the board severely on AB. And AB on his football nous thus cutting the programme down by 30 minutes, instead we got an hour of ‘happy clappyness’ and patting in the back!

December 22, 2024 at 4:27 am #295878I can only see us being weaker after the ‘January sales’
Yup, looks like we will be clogging it at this level for quite a while.
Club could cut costs by 20% next season by training Mon, Wed & Fri… staying ‘semi-professional’

December 22, 2024 at 7:15 am #295881Although Andy Butler will be then next victim ,I cannot see how anyone coming in will get this poor set of players flying. This core were boring to watch last year too and we’ve lost a couple of the better players ,it’s not just Butler. This team is rotten ,it’s spine is useless .We’re at he point with Butler if he tries to be positive , he’s deluded . If he responds to abuse he’s out of order{the worst trait of fans is expecting people to accept abuse}.
The fans are rotten too , they are winding themselves up online and letting that spill over into their behaviour at GP and creating a vile and toxic atmosphere then expecting players to try and be expansive, they’re terrified of you and making mistakes . It will happen with the next manager too .I cannot see this ending well.
The vultures are circling, Goatboy back, Hilton’s mouthpiece apparently sniffing around ,not to mention his fan boys on here still stirring the pot .
We have people from supporters organisation also sticking the boot in , including aiming barbs at the board ,how can they work with the club now ?
Unless attitudes change we’ll be stuck in this league or with no club.
I’m worried about the board too, I think Michelle has to go before the knives are drawn on her, she’s too good for that to happen to her. that motorcycle commentator has he actually been seen around? He’s clearly Sharpe’s choice and that worries me and makes me wonder whether some of the Piggies are starting to feel “more equal” .5 users thanked author for this post.
December 22, 2024 at 10:51 am #295898Yeah, but fans pay money so are ‘entitled’ to voice their disgust at poor performances. Never mind that their vitriol creates a toxic atmosphere that feeds to players, creating a feedback loop that leads to more poor performances. What matters are people being able to show how angry they are, as that makes them better fans. How else would the players and Butler know that they have underperformed if they didn’t have fans to run up to them at full time to call them a w*nker?

Nobody is taken in by the delusional post match interviews (aside from perhaps the board given Butler is still clinging onto the job). His attempts to rewrite history by describing a game entirely different to what we’ve just watched is cringeworthy. Does he really think he can gloss over how shit we played by spoon feeding us a few cherry picked stats and sound bites about hard fought points and tough opposition? It’s the same bull week in week out and most of us are now sick to death of it.
Pains me to say but the cods manager Artell spoke just before Butler on Humberside and the stark contrast in their interviews was humbling. He provided what sounded like an honest and accurate assessment, accepting they were rubbish but spoke professionally and sounded like a proper coach. Butler in comparison sounded like a pissed up, rose-tinted spectacle adorning fan, who should have been speaking on Gareth’s reaction vlog with a pint in hand, rather than live on Humberside.

December 22, 2024 at 1:10 pm #295906It’s amazing that as shit as we are, we are still in the mix.
The board will sit on their hands until we’re no longer in with a chance of promotion through the play offs.1 user thanked author for this post.

The abuse is unacceptable- however if supporters choose to voice their displeasure towards another mind numbing performance at home with booing, so be it. Let’s not rewrite history either, for the majority of the game yesterday it was flat as a fart other than the odd groan. I was shocked the attendance was still
Above 3,600 tbh.On a human level, Butler has my sympathy as you never want a manager to fail, but the reality is, he’s been given the biggest budget in the league, the best squad on paper, and 4,000 home fans with a wave of goodwill heading into the new season. The fanbase wasn’t toxic in recent history when we were helping to pay the staffs wages, buying shirts in record numbers and turning up with higher crowds than league 2 clubs. They have responded to the dross that is being served and the Alfreton game looks to have been the turning point.
Not since this Midlands league have we been the biggest side in a Division, with that is going to come expectation. If the staff or players find that unreasonable, there are plenty of part time sides in this league that will give you an easier ride.

December 22, 2024 at 2:02 pm #295912Playing crap, bottom of the current form table, yet still in the mix.
Are Guardiola and the City players being booed from the stands?

I don’t think any on here are under illusion to the nature of the performance and I haven’t said otherwise. It was still poor.
I think Butler’s radio chats are his way of protecting the team and trying to build morale, rather than criticise too much and turn players against him. I would suspect his overly optimistic comments are related to this, and he probably saw the somewhat passable final 30 minutes where we were more in control as the reason for such comments about nearly being there, alongside the defence being less broken than a few games ago. Many managers are like this and I don’t think they’re so deluded that they are blind to the issues. I certainly don’t think the managers or players need to be hollered at or booed to understand that the performance was actually not good.
Paul Hurst had a more honest interview strategy and was criticised. Gary O’Neill did at Wolves and was criticised for throwing the team under the bus by Wolves fans. It could well be the same here if Butler did that and if Butler included himself in the criticism we’d soon have people asking why he doesn’t resign if he admits he’s been sub-par.
Players should be able to deal with booing, though I have never been sure as to what good it actually does, but we have also had defence for hurling vitriol at players and coaches from some quarters and my comment was more in line with that.

December 22, 2024 at 4:40 pm #295932I don’t mind the booing, more often than not it’s reflex reaction,a bit like swearing out loudly when a mistake happens or a groan. It’s a human reaction to an often excitable situation.
What I cannot accept are the swivel eyed loons making deliberate attempts to get close or catch the eye of and personally abuse a person over a football match.
Those who absolve such behaviour or dismiss it with statements like”Swearing happens at football” are just as bad or worse. The same clowns get upset when players don’t just take snidey comments or abuse and actually respond with such awful sentences as ” we won didn’t we?” I don’t know how they sleep at night when such comments bother them.
I remember the same with Beagrie and Billy Sharp, Sharp got dogs abuse when he played for Donny and our little cry babies were incensed when he scored a goal and celebrated .
Ive been abused by players before, Mcaulay .My friends offered out by a player ,same one , we laughed it off and still do1 user thanked author for this post.
December 22, 2024 at 7:06 pm #295959I know your not to clever 64 but surely even you should be able to differentiate from someone who made a snidey comment from someone who just made a reasonable view of a game.
Just to make it clear to you the snidey comment came from the player. For fans who went most would agree that comment was very gentle indeed to the player.

The board will sit on their hands until we’re no longer in with a chance of promotion through the play offs.Yes we are shit, that is why we are in a shit league. The fact that we are still in the mix says it all. Our size and history have made us the team everyone wants to beat. The fact that they are actually raising their game against us, just proves how shit they are…
