February 26, 2022 at 10:01 pm #232855Joins a list of absolutely awful football club chairman
Hope he’s proud of the mess he’s made

February 26, 2022 at 10:57 pm #232864I’d be very surprised indeed with his track record if any other football club in the land would want him anywhere near or business come to that.

Sadly that’s not how it works is it? You don’t get to control who owns your club thanks to the complete lack of any meaningful regulation in the Football League. That’s how so many owners have gone through multiple clubs in their time.

February 28, 2022 at 11:08 am #232920Any regular person would feel ashamed at what they have done to The Iron and would be desperately trying to put things right. That is what right-thinking people do.
The WORDS will surely appear on Blunderside etc – at the very point we drop out of the league.
Usually, I’m very keen on words. In this situation, however, all I can say is that talk can be cheap; very cheap.
Back in the day – many of the criminals I used to encounter were fully paid up recidivists. You could not trust any promises. (But even against that backcloth, amongst the truly hardcore ranks, a modest few would still choose to reform and tiny numbers did also genuinely show a hint of remorse.)
Cause for a sliver of optimism as the Chairman bends over backwards to get us back into the league next year?
Or does the word ‘optimism’ no longer have any currency whatsoever in our situation?February 28, 2022 at 11:17 am #232921Swann has always talked a good game, that cannot be argued. I’d prefer to see some actions.

Out of interest, what would that look like to you? Because obviously “big spending” isn’t the answer, given a) we’ve tried that before and b) there are some other pretty big spending clubs in the Conference already.
So what can we do? Well, make better use of what we have, that’s for certain. Over-achieving against your budget is possible with the right plans and the right minds, as we’re seeing this season with teams like Exeter or Sutton. Accrington & Morecambe could both be two division above us next season and neither gets much bigger crowds than what we’re getting this season.
Then there are all the off the field aspects which help to get fans excited, we could do a lot worse than look at our fishy friends down the M180 for some ideas there.

February 28, 2022 at 12:00 pm #232925What have our fishy friends done that make you envious ferrite? Is it the £5-50p sausage butties in their new fans zone, or the prospect of a new training ground they have been promising, sound familiar.please do tell.
February 28, 2022 at 12:03 pm #232926You’d have to ask them for the details but I know there’s a lot more of a buzz about Blundell Park this season, just look at their attendances for starters.

February 28, 2022 at 12:39 pm #232927Sound question, Fe.
What will/would it look like?
Ask me again in a year’s time and with the benefit of hindsight …1 user thanked author for this post.
February 28, 2022 at 12:45 pm #232928All a bit hypothetical if he’s still around isn’t it. Just can’t see anything to be optimistic about. When has he ever demonstrated he’s prepared to listen to anyone?
February 28, 2022 at 1:43 pm #232930Sorry ferrite you implied you knew what they had done, and weren’t just guessing that they had actually done something.

Well they clearly have if you take the time to listen to Town fans talk about their club this season. I don’t know the details but I do know that they feel a lot more positive, optimistic & connected with their club than during the Fenty years.
February 28, 2022 at 3:14 pm #232932Optimism seems to be heightened initially by new ownership, seems a long time ago for us. Sadly the optimism wears off when new owners fail to deliver as is often the case, timescale is variable obviously.

February 28, 2022 at 3:47 pm #232934They really aren’t that positive, on fishy they’ve been upset over badge gate, numerous threads on getting Hurst out, the CEO getting everything wrong, food prices, there positive at the moment getting 13 points from the last 15, but i dare say most of us would be,of course it goes without saying Alcy wouldn’t.
