Thank you so much David for saving our beloved Scunthorpe United FC. I am sure many many supporters will sleep easier tonight and wake with optimism in the morning. Thank you again and Up The Iron for tonight.

Let’s keep a healthy degree of skepticism, we don’t know much about the new owner or his motives.

But we can be delighted to see Swann leave and we can hope for the best for the future under Hilton.

On the counter, after years of gloom, we’re allowed a moment of relief and happiness.

Last week after well over sixty years supporting the Iron I thoughtthe highs and lows of supporting a club for me had gone forever. Hopefully we have turned a corner and I will get behind the new owner but after the last 10 years of false promises there is still that bit of doubt there.
Truly hope I am proved wrong

Yeah, I agree, and I am relieved and happy. But I firmly believe that any football fan should view their club’s owner with a bit of cynicism.

Yeah, let’s keep digging sure we can find something to rally around to beat him up with, for a start off he’s never been a Scunthorpe fan.

Used to get chased by Rodney the park keeper on a regular basis on the way home from school when he saw us chopping one of the trees down! Hilton avenue is down the bottom of the hill behind The Berkeley pub.

I was from round there, went Foxhills too. Used to pick a certain type of mushroom on foxhills club field. Sounds like it is being taken to pieces a bit at a time. :(

Attendances this season have increased from 450/550 ish to over 1,300 in their last home game.
Looks as if the average attendance is about 750/800.

    When were u at Foxhills?

    When i was a school kid… 555

    1975 to 80

Maths teacher was Mr White , Physics was pin head Robins , Ms Mclellen for French, i lived in Gunness and came on the bus daily.

shame to hear about sheff park

My wrong i got Hilltop ave confused with Hilton ave , the latter being behind the Berkley pub not to far from GP as already pointed out.

i used to drink in both Gunness pubs mostly the Ironstone Wharf but also over the river in Keadby , in Scunny town itself Tavern n Town Pickwicks Garbos Britainia Honest Lawyer Ashby Star , Ferryboat in Burringham , pub in Scotter also.

Loads of Indian eateries on Frod rd and Wilsons Chippy …

I had a couple of market stands in Scunny also did York city center , Donny and for my sins Cleethorpes Wonderland markets.

Out of all my memories i miss going to the footy the most.. and especially at times like this with hopefully a brighter future ahead thanks to David Hilton.

Mr Hilton only took over the Chairmanship at Ilkeston in November 2021.

Ilkeston Town play in the Southern League Premier Central League (step 7) – 2 leagues below us.

Formed in July 2017 after Ilkeston FC folded a few months earlier.

They currently sit in 7th place, 3 points behind the last play off place – the team in that position have 4 games in hand on Ilkeston Town.

You’d not put your mortgage on them to win promotion this season.

16 points off of Tamworth, who occupy top spot and the only automatic promotion berth.

I think the point is that our club is (apparently) secure (for a little longer at least). What we do not need is another bout of spending money we don’t have. Stabilisation and organic growth is fine by me. I do not expect to get back in the FPL anytime soon. Level 6 will be difficult enough next season.

This is it. The teams in the football League grow stronger by the year and that is likely to further be enchanced by the Juggernaught that is Wrexham and potentially Chesterfield/Notts county. The day of idling by on 3k attendances and expecting league football are nearing an end.

You only have to look at the strength of League one- it’s virtually a 2nd championship.

We have to find a new level now and begin to live within our means. If the town wants league football again, it’s got to be a mutual effort and not just relying on a sugar daddy.

If David invites local business men onto the board ( I think we all know two obvious choices ) then sets about contacting fans groups for feedback and hopefully in time allowing fans to buy shares in the club, he will become very popular and the fan base will start to grow again. We are a local club much beloved in the area, we aren’t a global brand and we don’t have millionaires playing for us, so if David thinks local and makes the club more accessible to fans then it’s a win win situation. If we give him time to get settled in I think he could be very good for Scunthorpe United.

Ok with most of that Ironawe other than the fans groups haven’t heard anything constructive from them through this saga so wouldn’t want them involved, from what I’ve read Simon,Roj, and SST could command respect to speak on our behalf Imo.

Lol, which joker on Twitter invited Hilton in to the Iron Bar for a drink tomorrow? What are you thinking? Trying to give him ‘buyers remorse’?! Spare him the bleakness for a while eh?
