The Premier League don’t need the EFL ‘feeder leagues’.

The Premier League clubs buy whomever they want from whatever league in the World that they want.

A death knell.

EFL are paupers and constantly begging for scraps from the PL.

1992-93 was the inaugural Premier League season.

Since it’s inception, only Premier League teams have won the EFL Cup.

The last team from outside the Premier League to win the League Cup / EFL Cup was Sheffield Wednesday in 1990-91.

Wednesday were on a one year secondment to the second tier that season… lol.

So, for the last 31 years the EFL have allowed and being happy to let non EFL members win their trophy.

Will an EFL team ever win the EFL Cup again?

The Royal Spanish Football Federation runs football in Spain from top to bottom.

Barcelona were last seasons Champions and are members of the RSFF.

Deutscher Fußball-Bund is the governing body of football, futsal, and beach soccer in Germany, running it from top to bottom.

Bayern Munich were last seasons Champions and are members of the DFB through the DFL as are all German Clubs.

The Italian Football Federation manages and coordinates the Italian football league system from top to toe. It is also responsible for appointing the management of the Italy national football team (men’s), women’s, and youth national football teams. The Italy national futsal team also belongs to the federation.

Napoli were the Italian Champions in 2022-23 and… you’ve joined the dots together – are members of the IFF.

Riddle me this.

When the Premier League was formed in 1992, the clubs involved all resigned from the FL/EFL

None of the clubs in today’s PL are members of the EFL.

EFL – English Football League
Therefore – the League of English Football.

If the Premier League sits outside and aside from the EFL, then is there a challenge to be made here?

If they are not part of the EFL, then last years English Champions must have surely been Burnley?

So, should Burnley, Sheff Utd, Luton & Middlesbrough be representing England in the Champions League this season?

Premier League – they want their cake and to eat it.

EFL should close the doors on the clubs finishing in the relegation places of the PL. Let’s see how interesting and exciting it is when it’s the same old, same old season after season.

The German, Spanish & Italian representatives in the Champions League are all respective members of that country’s Administrative Federation.

England’s representatives aren’t.
