First half far to defensive. Sat back playing on the counter against a side just above us…

Second half let them have a go. Apter was unplayable for them 25 mins (could be some player for us). We looked a half decent side when attacking.

But that decision to take off Apter for o malley… that on its own shows why daws shouldn’t be in charge for a good period…

A nonsensical substitution, time after time if there’s a decision to be made we take the negative / defensive option. At 2-1 up, with the momentum we had at the time the best way for us to win the game was utilise Apter more, not replace him with a full back, sit back and try and see the game out. With our defensive record why was this decision taken? Which flank did the cross for their equaliser come from, yep you guessed it.

You still have members of the coaching staff that have been part of the five year malaise in charge of the squad.

    Why would anything change?

Because it doesn’t appear to work – maybe try something different?

Tony you’ve been a great servant to the club and I thank you for that, but no way are you a good coach and definitely not a manager. Absolutely dire tactics last night but then should we expect anything else? Nobody brings anything new to the table its always the same old rubbish, you must have got your coaching badges from the same person. (Gareth Southgate maybe) Please walk away now the whole lot of you, your embarrassing.

To expect a side who can’t defend to hold out for 25 mins… We all knew what was coming. And they could have easily got a 3rd

If we carried on as normal in the second half we would have got a 3rd. They was completely rattled and just handed it back over to them

My hearing is pretty good. Certain that the commentator said Fletcher n Marsh came off.
    ?
If it was Apter – sometimes, of course, there are good physical reasons to effect a substitution.

We have had several managers who think that the best way to win a game is to have the team defend, like it’s the Alamo, as soon as we take the lead. They never seem to learn as it continues to fail either.

Fletcher & Marsh were replaced by Beestin & Feeney earlier, the O’Malley for Apter substitution was the strange decision – yes he could have had a knock but he didn’t look as though he had

The coaching staff are clearly part of the problem and if we do ever get to have a clean out, everybody apart from Turnbull needs to go. The decision last night just further highlights that all staff at our club are equally to blame.

    That was ridiculous.

What tactics can legitimately be employed when professional footballers lose the ball every other pass?

Negativity at the club started 9 years ago when Mr Swann started disengagement with the fans.

Then our wonderfully knowledgeable Chief Scout initiated a recruitment plan of sublime stupidity. Which now puts us bottom of the National League and the ‘GIFTED’ Will Swann has left !! One assumes his job is done ?

Negative thoughts doesn’t need tactics !

Three inexperienced players in. Better than nothing – probably.
Has nobody realised that we are desperately short of a CB?
Two senior CBs is a recipe for disaster.
We are one win away from not being adrift. We are one/two defeats away from being anchored at the bottom.
Somehow – we MUST have a real CB in – not asap – but sooner than that.
This team is not desperately far away from the dizzy heights of almost adequate.

This Apter guy has been painted as a really great asset for the Iron, so in the absence of injury, why was he subbed? We are not a top light club, it’s bad enough that we continue sacking managers, but to mess around with the first team players half(ish) way through a match is stupid beyond description.

If Butterfield, Feiny and Apter are our best players, then make them first on every team sheet and train the others to give them the ball at every opportunity.

    Ain’t rocket science itz!

Daws brought Apter off and Mason on to win the game. That’s what he told somebody at the game. Editor Matt heard him !

To have somebody at the club with such a questionable understanding of the game is just not good enough. I remember last time he was in charge, he was dodgy then as well.

A lot of managers believe that defending a lead and managing a game out in the last quarter of the 90 is the best way to go. Unfortunately this involves tactically aware good players who can do this, something we don’t have at present, so while the sentiment is admirable the reality is that when we are on top and winning, keep doing more of the same that got us in that position.

    Hang on a mo!

Daws is the problem, when have we seen a decent footballer come out of our own academy system under Daws?

And when did we see an home grown striker make it at our own club?

The key to this is the ability to retain the ball, the best way to stop the opposition scoring. A look at our pass success rate, probably no more than 50%, will tell you why game management doesn’t work for us.

Apter was fine, it was purely a footballing decision. Unfortunately for Daws and us it was an extremely bad one !

RApter looks to be a decent player.
I’d give him a prolonged run out as part of a ‘two’ up top.

First and foremost I wish we’d get a few defenders in with one being a CB. Apter needs to be starting every game, as does Feeney. I would play Apter wide and see how Marsh and Nuttall fair upfront.

Beestin made a difference as well the other night, we need to start playing our best players and consistently pick them.
