Audio Innovations amp?
And the t-table/cart is…
Nice old Alto yes Gurney,AR EB101 turntable and linn k5 cartridge, kef cresta 30 speakers . all old all still working
Mm good stuff, the Alto is probably the strongest piece in the system, no? It could surely handle bigger speakers?
I think a lot of high quality older gear is preferable to the newer stuff. I used to have a pair of old Richard Allan speakers (Chaconnes) from the 60s. Lovely warm sound that was never tiring even with cd’s.
I’ve had the amp from new ,must be 20 years ,they have more of a reptation for being pretty and sounding nice rather than power ,the speakers,I traded for a little bit of joinery they work fine and aren’t overloaded .Turntable was 2nd hand as I couldn’t afford a new one of any consequence and read reviews after I bought it, I did well I reckon . I genuinely know very little ,I just knew I wanted a decent one without too many buttons.
Yes, simplicity generally helps. You often get a better sound out of smaller speakers driven at about two thirds of their power than bigger ones driven at about a tenth or less.
T-table speeds can be worth checking too, but it’s tricky. I used to compare songs on vinyl against the same songs on youtube, but the uploads aren’t always accurate either. Or, you can mess about with ‘post-it’ stickers on the platter and the stop-watch on your phone for hours of geeky fun!
