If Gilliead is our best player, then Conference really is our standard.
April 26, 2021 at 9:43 am #205484Who is better Ferrite?
Gillead and Karajan the only players who have shown anything like League 1 capability and desire this season. Van Veen, Eisa, McGahay have shown it for brief periods in the past but not this season.
The performances over the last few games would not win many points in the Conference either.
April 26, 2021 at 10:04 am #205485Karacan, Eisa & Van Veen? McGahey? Clarke? O’Malley? Possibly Beestin actually.
Like you say though, none of them have shown it consistently, with the exception of Karacan.
But I think Gilliead is very over-rated. He has barely scored or created a goal this season and for my money he’s been churning out some very modest performances all season. I thought he looked good in centre mid early on in the season but as a winger I don’t think he affects games. The fact he’s even being talked about as our best player is a reflection of the situation we’re in, I think.
April 26, 2021 at 10:25 am #205487There was talk a few months ago about possible players of the season,
“Loft a shoe in” and “Gilliead easily L1 standard” for example.
Anybody got any thoughts now?April 26, 2021 at 10:26 am #205489Mine are unprintabl and may lead to litigation.
April 26, 2021 at 1:11 pm #205497The entire team are so poor I don’t think anyone warrants player of the year. This award should not be made this year as a mark of respect to the suffering supporters.
It should definately not be given to anyone who is leaving.April 26, 2021 at 3:00 pm #205500It can’t be anyone but Gillead .
I wouldn’t bother with awards this year though
April 26, 2021 at 4:03 pm #205509I agree scrap it this year. Whoever was to win it should feel embarrassed as it has been one hell of a shocking season for all.

Anybody got any thoughts now?Just thinking about this again, it should be Eisa. I know he’s not very popular but, ultimately, his goals have largely come at key times and have won us enough games to keep us up. Without that contribution, we’d be sunk (although with a more consistent contribution we might be a lot better off!).
April 26, 2021 at 6:12 pm #205518Gilliead puts in a shift every game.
When there is no outlet ball (a VERY frequent occurrence) – he keeps the possession like no other.
His passing is measured and far away the best we have. He can trap a ball; tackles back; heads pretty well. He is the best reader of a game in the squad by a country mile.
He cares.
Do we all believe that Eisa cares even a third as much?Under Hurst, we saw the pure quality he can bring to a side. Of all those OOC, he is the only one I am desperate to keep. He is consistently MOTM – maybe as much as 80% of the time.
A terrific player who does not deserve to be surrounded by incompetents.1 user thanked author for this post.
April 26, 2021 at 7:54 pm #205522Which is why he won’t be here next season!
However, although he’s a player I like, ( not as much as les ) his end product does not bear close examination.April 26, 2021 at 8:39 pm #205528He cares.

A terrific player who does not deserve to be surrounded by incompetents. If that’s the case, how come he’s delivered next to nothing this season? He’s scored as many goals as Jordan Clarke & Harrison McGahey for goodness sake!
I don’t really care if Eisa only “cares” a third as much, however you measure that, I can remember crucial goals from him at Vale, away to Harrogate, home to Grimsby, Bradford & Barrow. He’s our top scorer. He must have a few assists too.
If Gilliead is as good as you claim and has the work ethic to match, surely he should be shining in this terrible team?
April 27, 2021 at 7:53 pm #205616Hopefully the contract was just for one season and no more.
April 27, 2021 at 9:12 pm #205633Am afraid the time has come.
Get it done Peter – you have sacked 8 or 9 better managers than this one.
April 27, 2021 at 9:17 pm #205636I still would not sack Cox pre-October but if he has to go – I shall be unable to oppose the decision.

April 27, 2021 at 11:26 pm #205676If he’s going he needs to go now.
What we don’t want is another summer of recruitment courtesy of the Swanns and a manager who says “yes Peter”.
We want a committed and experienced coach who can bring the right players to the club.
If Cox stays until October when we’re in the bottom four again with unfit, underperforming, non-league hopefuls. Whoever comes in will have a job akin to the fifth labour of Hercules!

Hurst stood up to Swann and was fired soon after. That’s the way he likes it.

April 28, 2021 at 6:19 am #205692Maybe he was pushed but I felt that Hurst had made the decision to quit.
Difficult to know, of course.April 28, 2021 at 8:08 am #205697What about Neil Cox assistant at Notts county ex Scunny and their making the play offs NI. Bloody hell that was a long sleep.
April 28, 2021 at 9:37 am #205701The taxi would have to be the size of a double decker bus to get rid of all the Cox in our club. Spelling not my strong point.

April 28, 2021 at 10:19 am #205711Current form from last 8 matches.
Played 8, Won 0, Drawn 2, Lost 6 Goals For 3 Goals Against 18 Goal Difference -15
Looking at Saturday’s match (Bradford) it really is the “Battle of the Shite ‘Uns“. Bradford’s form is slightly better than ours. I did previously state that we’d get a draw, however I am less certain now!
Those that we laughingly call football players have shown nothing but a complete lack of competence to do the most basic of football tasks. There is a lack of desire to fight for the cause, and to say that we are free fall is an understatement.
What disturbs me the most about all of this is that Cox is unable to turn things around, and even players that where trying hard previously are no longer putting in a shift. I did say previously that his public tongue lashing of the players could come back to haunt him, and I feel that, along with the contract withdrawals, has lead directly to the players ‘downing tools’.
I honestly cannot see us gaining another point this season, and if my prediction is correct, we will finish the season with 2 points from a possible 30, and 7 (seven) defeats in a row. If that is not sacking form then I do not know what is!!!
We are now left hoping that Southend drop points!!!

Difficult to know, of course.Didn’t Swann make it very clear in the press earlier this season that he had sacked Hurst?
Cox may not be the answer but nor is sacking him in my opinion.
April 28, 2021 at 11:23 am #205720Just because someone says something Ferrite doesn’t mean it’s true.

April 28, 2021 at 11:45 am #205724We were told we were getting a new ground to play championship football in and were going to be a self sufficient well run club and have plenty of pies amongst other things, so it’s true just because you are told something it doesn’t mean anything till it happens.
April 28, 2021 at 6:15 pm #205762Why the delay Swanny?
Any other manager at any other club would have been sacked weeks ago.pur club, players and management are a joke.! -
