After yesterday’s upsetting events with the Denmark lad ( great news he appears to be over the worst and progressing ) it was nice to get some positivity on the English football front. First the applause and cheering when England took the knee more then drowned out the racists booing and then the players have delivered a great result and deserved win on a boiling hot afternoon. Happy fans, beer being drunk, England starting well and a smile put back on people’s faces, what’s not to like. More of the same please against the Scots.

I did notice that before the England game kicked off an element of the crowd were booing the Croatian National Anthem.

A good indication that these boo-boys are not anti-Marxist protestors but merely pond life.

What you don’t realise, NI, is that the Croatian national anthem is actually a Marxist hymn left over from its Yugoslavian days. The crowd were obviously booing because of that.

Also, nice to see the boos rather muted. I don’t know why though, since the self-declared spokespeople of the ‘common man’ all said that they would not take such nonsense and let their feelings known.

I think an issue is that the original question comes across as loaded, especially when there is some controversy over it and it seemed like you were inferring a lack of choice on the players’ behalf.

This being the internet and such has allowed confusion and frustration to simmer and Deerey feels frustrated by what he seems as another attempt to degrade something well meaning and you seem frustrated by what you see as a question being unanswered and people talking about what they felt was another dig at this.

Unlike some people ( eg. Mr Fox ) who try to link the footballers taking the knee to some sort of Marxist anti democracy movement, I prefer to believe what the footballers tell us that it’s about supporting the anti racist movement in sport. Maybe I shouldn’t label Mr Fox in the way I have but his waffle about being a patriot is exposed as such when he makes such ridiculous claims about wanting the English team to lose because they support a just cause. He presents no evidence of his claims yet verbally attacks the players based on just that, he breaks Covid rules ( and openly boasts of such ) and again quotes being patriotic, shades of Hancock there, so I get a little miffed when he prattles on so in such a two faced fashion. Whilst your correct that the Belgians and Portuguese players took the knee, the Belgians went down as a man in solidarity whilst the Portuguese went down in instalments. Even the commentator said finally all the Portuguese players kneel !! Just as the Belgians we’re getting back up.

I believe you are offering both opinions with no evidence to support either, the footballers have stated many times in the media over many months both individually and through their professional association why they take the knee.
Their reason for doing so does not fit your agenda here bill.

Ok but it doesn’t prove anything other than they chose to take the knee, it’s their right and their choice to do either and there is no evidence that being late going down for the knee was because they were coerced into doing so, which it seems to be what your suggesting, apologies if I misrepresent your post of course.
