I really struggle to see what the issue is with players taking a knee before a match. Some may say “It’s been going on too long”, or may ask “When will it end?”. The issue is, that racism is still alive, and being peddled by keyboard warriors over social media. Week after week we hear and read stories of players being racially abused over social media. Until this is stamped out I feel that professional footballers players have every right to protest against racism. Some may argue and say “But we have the Kick it Out campaign”. Whilst that is true, it is also true that it is not effective, otherwise players wouldn’t still be receiving racial abuse.

I think all but the most ignorant would agree that the action of footballers taking a knee is not done in support of any marxist ideology or movement, but is done to show solidarity and support for anti-racism. Anyone who says otherwise is being deliberately divisive, is in denial of the numerous public statements made by footballers, or lacks the ability to understand a clearly articulated message.

To state that the players who are taking a knee in protest against racism are following a marxist movement would be a wilful misrepresentation of the facts. Sure, there may be some in the BLM movement who are so inclined, but I suspect that they are very much in the minority, and like all marxist movements in the western world, will fail.

I completely agree with the aims of the kneeling but I’m not sure they’re being achieved. I’m happy to be put right on that by people who know better than me, I just don’t really see what tangible benefits it can achieve long-term.

Of course, as I mentioned earlier, stopping it now would just be fuel to the racists, so I’m not sure what the best option is from here now.

The idea of “keep politics out of football” is just a nonsense, particularly when it involves games between national side!

You told us your version of what you’d like to be the truth. That racism is something that happens elsewhere, so it’s nothing to do with you.

And presumably that because you haven’t heard it at GP, SUFC players don’t need to take the knee.

But it IS going on still, and the whole point is that everyone shows a united front in stamping it out.

The players have stated they are not taking the knee for political reasons. It’s to make a point about the racism black players experience. White players are supporting them by uniting with them. Are you saying they’re all lying?

Whilst the figures are encouraging BRI they still show that the people opposing the players taking the knee either are too ignorant to address the issue of racism or are simply racist but haven’t got the guts to come clean. Most racism is based on bullying and bullies hate being challenged so they boo instead then try to dress it up as opposition to some kind of political narrative. Cowards and bullies the lot of them, they are a disgrace to humanity with their two faced double standards, some even claim to be Christians too, if that’s their Christianity they can keep it.
