I really felt that this was not a game for an ‘undercooked’ youngster.
Pugh may become a decent player but too much was asked of him today. Why not the considerably more experienced Rowe? McMahon – get into training!
Green gave away a penalty, wound up the ref, lost his temper and was ineffective. Poor. He should undoubtedly lose his place. Most of the rest were okay.
August 7, 2021 at 5:47 pm #211493Agree about Pugh les he cost us today but he will get better overtime, the team.in general a work in progress, Davis and Taft look good and Thompson and O’malley will fight over that left back slot but we are still a few players short plus we picked up a couple of injuries in the first game FFS. Kenyon looks a bit leaden footed in midfield and we deffo lack a creative spark in there, Bunn looks a good signing and fair play to Loft for his battling qualities but he needs help up front. Keeper looked ok till injured but I wouldn’t blame Watson for any of the goals, we were a bit naive at times but it’s early days.

August 7, 2021 at 5:50 pm #211494Neil says that Green was really poorly at half-time but was short of subs so had to leave him on.
August 7, 2021 at 5:53 pm #211495Couldn’t knock the effort but dreadfully short of quality. Kenyon and Bunn don’t look fit. I just hope that Swindon are one of the better teams.
August 7, 2021 at 6:03 pm #211496Thought the second half in particular was an entertaining affair, both sides creating chances even if Swindon always looked the tidier side. Certainly a vast improvement on last years showings.
We did show naivety, especially after scoring. What a stupid foul to give away.
After that it was only going one way. Green was poor today and has to improve to stay in the side.Aside from that, can’t really criticise too many individual performances, just an overall lack of quality.
Desperately need another striker and winger in as a minimum.
Biggest concern today was the home attendance. Vast swathes of empty seats and gaps on the terrace. Can’t imagine there were more than 3k home fans there. Worrying times ahead.

August 7, 2021 at 6:03 pm #211497You might not blame Watson for any of the goals, but that’s 44.5 games 88 conceded we just can’t afford to have him on the pitch.

August 7, 2021 at 6:04 pm #211498Pugh & Green were poor.
Onariase is our best centre back.
Bunn ceeated when he could & will improve with game time and fitness.
A striker is a necessityAugust 7, 2021 at 6:15 pm #211500There’ll be maybe ten teams with substantially better quality players than those we have.
Swindon today probably had at least 6 players who were a division ahead of our team average.
We need to take the odd point from the better teams and do a number on the ones nearer – or (hopefully) a notch below our level. My big issue is how do we always manage to get the injuries we do?
Many GKs play every game in a season.A thought. We have a sound defender wasting on the bench and can’t cover RB. I know we shouldn’t play people out of position but …
August 7, 2021 at 6:17 pm #211501I blame Covid!

August 7, 2021 at 6:21 pm #211503I just can not see any hope with these new players. Our chief scout needs to send them back to Blackpool beach with his old man, manager and the coaching staff.
It’s going to be a long old season. At the end of the season our chairman will get his wish by putting us in to the national league and the ground into his own building plot.3 users thanked author for this post.
August 7, 2021 at 6:43 pm #211506I think your appraisal of the new players after just one league game is more then a tad harsh Brian but your entitled to your opinion, see if you think the same after fifteen games.
August 7, 2021 at 6:45 pm #211507Very disappointing performance especially second half, ref gave us very little apart from the penalty, Rory whether his fault or not concedes 3 more and 1 a cross shot which is his weak link though obviously the penalty wasn’t his fault, very disappointed with the response after they equalised and we only had one decent effort, the thing that continued from last season was low possession and spending a lot of time in our area second half, it was a awful performance and needs these 4 extra players pronto
August 7, 2021 at 6:54 pm #21150838% possession…at home, to a side some were saying might not even be able to field a team🙁
Says it all for me.
Fortress Glanny? Home record gone in the very first game🙄🙄Goodness know what will happen when decent teams come.
Down by Christmas?

August 7, 2021 at 7:04 pm #211510Alcy, Swindon have some quality players and I expect they will be challenging near the top at the end of the season.

Topics: 11Agreed Mick, at least 4/5 would start for every league 2 team.
August 7, 2021 at 8:02 pm #211512Alex Kenyon in particular looked a very poor player by league 2 standards.Absolutely no threat going forward at all. 2 new strikers and a central midfielder are bare minimum needed for me.
August 7, 2021 at 8:12 pm #211514If Alex Kenyon is our “Bish” replacement then God help us. The most immobile and ineffective midfielder I’ve seen in a long time!
August 7, 2021 at 8:40 pm #211516Pugh had a really good first half, Green was poor today. We were poor for a long period in the second half. There were more Scunny fans than I expected to be honest, as i know many who have not renewed their season tickets. Having said all that it was good to be back at a game with a crowd and meet up with friends ( and Misterton Mick !!)

August 7, 2021 at 8:53 pm #211517Same old dross today im just glad i didnt waste more money watching it. When will people relise things are only going to get worse under these clowns who are ripping the club apart? I think signing an experienced keeper was a must i personally would have got joe murphy back for another year or two hes someone who commands the back four. A right back is needed because pugh is just another hornshaw i feel but yet the club see different somehow then even play him out of position. We also need a pacey winger and a poacher type of striker who can play off loft. Teams dont have to come and work hard for the 3 points we make it so easy for them. Swindon have quality where it counts and in anthony grant and jack payne they are far better than our shambles.

August 7, 2021 at 9:13 pm #2115183rd was more of “The Usual” from Watson. Very poor from Pugh but an average shot pretty much stright at him. Did he hold it? did he push it to safety? or did he do what he ALWAYS does and push it straight back into the box to a striker.

August 7, 2021 at 9:33 pm #211522And also Darryn he was beaten by a cross shot for the second goal, his weaknesses.
So the keeper standings are Billson 0 from 0.5 games, Watson 3 from 0.5 games.August 7, 2021 at 10:54 pm #211526There was a reason we got a new keeper, proven again today after 45 mins!

August 8, 2021 at 5:55 am #211533So do we now need a new new keeper?
August 8, 2021 at 9:12 am #211535So….
If Swindon had five players two weeks ago, how did they manage to sign better players than we did in six weeks?1 user thanked author for this post.
August 8, 2021 at 9:25 am #211536We need more than a new keeper Les, we need at least two strikers (O’Neill is Miller – time will prove this) Jarvis KDT nowhere near the club. Listening to Cox worries me. He kept Green on even though he was physically sick, he admits he has no one on the bench to change matches he needs strikers/flair players but with injuries now may change his plans.
Crisis after one game and people say calm down…… this position isn’t one game in the making it is result of the state the club is in. The state of the chairmanship.
Just look the ground the dust on the seats, the blocked drains, the bombed out car park, the tatty flags, the empty seats, the state of the pitch,
But as UTI/Swann say – its fans not coming in that will relegate us

August 8, 2021 at 9:47 am #211539So….
If Swindon had five players two weeks ago, how did they manage to sign better players than we did in six weeks?Come on alcy get your head out your arse, the new guy at Swindon will have bunged a lot of money into the squad really quickly whereas we have the lowest budget in the division. Do you spend all day sleeping in that bloody shed, waking up occasionally to post crap for the sake of it? Wake up man.
August 8, 2021 at 9:52 am #211540It certainly was not Rory Watson’s fault we lost. All three goals came from our mistakes, a penalty conceded by a player who should have been substituted if he wasn’t fit to carry on at half-time.the second and third goals mistakes by young Pugh. Which was a shame because he had a really good first half. But let’s all blame Rory the easy target.

August 8, 2021 at 9:59 am #211542The cross shot mick keeps referring to was a nice shot that curled in the far post, cracking goal not a straightforward drive across the goal, I observed from the east stand, right behind the scorer. Top finish TBF, Rory no chance.

August 8, 2021 at 12:24 pm #211553Not blaming Rory, but he shouldn’t get anywhere near our pitch, someone with an average of conceding 2 goals a game wouldn’t get you in any team lge or non lg.
