April 28, 2021 at 11:53 am #205726A good article which sums up the situation perfectly and mirrors what the majority on here feel, it will do absolutely nothing to heal the rift between Prawn and the SET.

April 28, 2021 at 11:55 am #205727A great article, and represents my thoughts, fears, and feelings 100%.

April 28, 2021 at 12:43 pm #205730Important piece. Relegation, the Iron’s form and endlessly changing managers are just a distraction from what’s really happening to our club. Swanny has got the land and the club’s assets for next to nothing in an upside down “deal” – and there’s nothing fans can do about it.
I’ve been going to Scunny games for thirty-years and never been more disillusioned. Our fate seems sealed as the next Bury, or going down a similar route to Boston United

April 28, 2021 at 2:01 pm #205741Spot on. And I wouldn’t sanctimoniously call Bob a ‘blow hard’ either.

April 29, 2021 at 2:19 pm #205856This is rare for me. Well said Max Bell.
And then you read what Mr Swann said in a club statement back in 2015 – the item called BELIEF. Is there any wonder any trust has totally evaporated.

April 29, 2021 at 3:12 pm #205861Wow, Max Bell pulls no punches, another good article, saying exactly what most of the supporters thoughts and concerns are.
Seems like all out war from the SET, can’t see them and the club making up anytime soon.Hardly anyone at any level thinks this is a good deal for the club.

April 30, 2021 at 4:53 pm #205985Fair play to Mr Swann, a decent response to all the recent comments regards the ground issue considering he didn’t need to say anything. It’s also nice to hear him acknowledge that performances have been poor.
If it all works out then we should all be OK.
We do need to get the point required to secure safety, hopefully he and Cox have managed to gee the players up to put a shift in at Bradford.April 30, 2021 at 5:20 pm #205987Agree it is a fairly considered response given the understandable emotion going around.
From what we know of Mr Swann I am sure the last thing he wants to be known as is the man that took us out of the league.
If we make it this season though he s going to have to change something to stop it happening next year. That’s 3 dire seasons in a row we have either been relegated or come uncomfortably close to it.
April 30, 2021 at 5:32 pm #205988But Bob did play the ball.
April 30, 2021 at 8:23 pm #205991Good piece from Max Bell.
I don’t know Pawn but his record suggests a stubborn streak which makes him oblivious to those with different opinions. This, together with a need for control from the boardroom to the boot-room to the pitch, has made him dismissive of other points of view, and led him to fall out with managers, players, press, fans, and even the local council.
It’s also no surprise that some of the most influential people in the club seem to be his own family.
Despite all this, if plans had come to fruition, with dazzling, ‘sexy’ football, a promotion, and a ‘starchitect’ designed stadium, all would be fine.
But, it hasn’t. It’s gone from bad to worse, and there’s no sign it’ll get any better. With the club haemorraging cash, the aim is now to batten down the hatches, cut losses and protect business interests. And with no change in sight, the clubs most valuable asset – not the ground but the fans – are in revolt.
What seems to be needed is a greater willingness to listen and act on the advice of others, and a devolution of decision-making down to those who are professionally capable of exercising it. Of course, they have to have a decent budget to do the job too.
But perhaps most of all, the club needs to get in touch with its fans again, and a bit of sackcloth and ashes from Swanns Sr and Jr would go a long way to repairing and re-establishing relations. It would cost nothing in financial terms, and the gains could be immense. Give Me Sunshine? We can all wish.

Harrogate 5-4 Cambridge
If only…!April 30, 2021 at 11:51 pm #205993The only place Swann should be is on the ropes for what he has done to our beloved Scunthorpe United FC. The article from Bob Steel is very accurate and true regarding the past and present situation which our club finds itself in, and this situation is entirely down to Swann. The utter disgrace of this is that he has made sure he now owns the stadium, land and all the clubs assets and gain financially. There is no way this should be happening as he has caused the disastrous position our club is now in.
This is pure greed and total disregard of the fans and our club and also of our town Scunthorpe. The football club is and always has been a very important asset of our town and has put us on the map on many occasions. One man should not be allowed to destroy this. Could we ask the council to look into what is happening at Glanford Park and are the Football Trust already doing this. Another question is who has valued the ground and assets.

April 30, 2021 at 11:56 pm #205994What if all the fans were to join the Football Trust would that help our cause in any way. Surely someone should listen. Another avenue is what if we contact our local MP Holly-Mumby Croft. Apparently aren’t the government looking at new legislation for football clubs, owners, shareholders and fans.

May 1, 2021 at 12:38 am #205997We should be asking the govt to look at this deal.
Swann talks a lot but doesn’t say anything. Key question how much was the ground valued at? while he keeps saying it’s a good deal as we were paying interest its not if the ground is valued at say £25m, then its a good deal for Coolsilk. He says the club will pay rent when it can afford it. Who decides when than it is. What will the market rent be surely he has a figure in mind if you writing of £11m.Not sure saying trust me works when he hasn’t delivered on any promises. i cant recall him saying relegation and the dullest football ever and my son and i will play footy manager to almost take us out the league.
Swann needs to start with an apology and then let those who know how to find, sign and manage players do so. Just like he does with his horses or does he tell jockeys how to ride too!?7 users thanked author for this post.
May 1, 2021 at 8:33 am #205999To show how bad things are down there then read this.
The Chief Scout – Mr Will Swann found out that the manager had told a player he was being released. The person who told him was the players agent when the Chief Scout was talking about this player to him because he wanted to re-sign him !! The manager hadn’t even told Will Swann.

May 1, 2021 at 10:19 am #206003So SanFran, your suggesting the chief scout wants to resign a player Cox doesn’t consider good enough. IF this is true it could explain how we finished up with some of the current dross but doesn’t bode well for the future.

May 1, 2021 at 11:02 am #206005But Cox chose Will Swann to be his chief scout. (Allegedly) You’d think that would indicate similar ideas of the type of player and level of ablity that is required.
May 1, 2021 at 11:31 am #206010I just hope the player in question wasn’t Alex Gilliead.
May 1, 2021 at 12:00 pm #206011Why should the manager tell the the chief scout, surely it’s his job to identify new players not the ones we have in the building, the story sounds like 2 big round ones to me.
May 1, 2021 at 12:16 pm #206013That shite hole worth 25 million pull the other one, Greybull capital bought all of Tata Scunthorpe for 1£, so would imagine the Glan Siro would be worth 1p would have said halfpenny but they went out of circulation in 1984. Help from the council Mmmm.
May 1, 2021 at 12:20 pm #206014One would expect all parties concerned to sit down and discuss the retained/released list long before any player was told.
One would expect it everywhere but Scunthorpe United of course!

What it shows is there is no joined up thinking !
I thought Mr Cox wanted to work with Will Swann as they are on the same wavelength !!
Didn’t Peter say he wouldn’t have his son in that job ? -
