Just istened to the ultra negative interview, everything blamed on covid even the 1 up top boring football, every other club has had to deal with covid and as football is supposed to be entertaining a large amount of clubs entertain Supporters regularly not us.
Also year after year our club has far too many injuries it’s like the players take it in turns, next year Mr Swann, bin off the under 23 team, and cut the squad size down bringing a mix of proven players and keeping some of our better players.

Some of you need a short sharp dose of realism.

The fact you view yourselves as ‘customers’ is all that’s wrong with the society nowadays. No loyalty just a case of “entertain me or else”.

Your attitudes stink and I’d rather sit/stand on the terraces on my own than with some of you ‘customers’. 😴

That is a load of tripe Uptheiron99, we are paying customers, just like if yourself WAS going into the same eatery week after week, year after year, and then for a lengthy period of time the food BECAME tastless and cold, and you are no longer enjoying it any longer, what would you do??, just eat it and accept that the food was continually terrible and not worth eating, or after complaining many times that what is being served to you is rubbish, would you continue attending the same earery???

NO ONE MOANS WITHOUT REASON, IF AFTER THE SAME COMPLAINTS FROM MOST SUPPORTERS FALL ON DEAF EARS, AND THE MANAGEMENT CONTINUE TO TELL YOU THAT WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE A LEAGUE TWO FOOTBALL TEAM, NO MATTER HOW BAD THEY ARE, THEY ARE WRONG BY TELLING PAYING CUSTOMERS THIS.

UTI I have always been clear that there are supporters and customers. Most if not all on here I would say are supporters, irrespective of whether they are season ticket holders or visit the odd game as and when circumstances allow. The core of supporters is around 2,500 (and falling) the customers are those that come on grass roots day or £5 Port Vale game or maybe a local derby for the atmosphere – it made it something that people would experience that they wouldn’t normally do – they don’t support the cinema but pop down to the local Odeon every now and again.

The problem is, in cinematic terms, these customers know the film is garbage, has been garbage for 2/3 years now and the queue for the hotdogs is far too long, the car park looking more like a bombsite. A lot will leave thinking the experience is not worth the outlay and choose to do other things.

The club used to be about the community, its more about a failing business model (I say fail because the model has shifted after not succeeding and is shifting again) for a wealthy owner who is becoming more detached from the fans. The continuous media appearances don’t tell you anything but some lap it up as engagement with fans. The talking ‘at’the fan the other night when any other consumer led business would look to engage and win them back shows more about the state of the club. Are there worse chairman? Yes absolutely but this is used by apologists as the benchmark for our clubs (careful what you wish for…look at xxfc – Colchester looking a bit dodgy – the club owing the owners other business £m’s – who’d have thought!)

If we serve up this football under this procurement strategy for players we’ll be down to 1,500 people through the door. We are losing so much quality this season and will be replacing with non-oven ready players.

We’ve had this discussion before UTI. Most business owners welcome valid criticism and use the information to improve their offering to the public. Nobody gets everything right all the time but to continue to get things so wrong is likely to give you the opportunity to stand or sit alone.

Though to be honest I don’t think he said or could say any different to be truthful.

Show some leadership and offer some inspiration, some hope, some reason to look forward to next season.

Yes, it’s been hard, I think most of us understand that. But we’re now hoping to put this period behind us and look forward to next season, so let’s have something to get excited about!

UTI’s clearly a wind-up merchant and he’s entitled to his views but his ideas wouldn’t exactly help to run any business, would they?

Are there worse chairman? Yes absolutely but this is used by apologists

There’s a Premier League club 20 miles down the A69 from me that are a case in point.

They will stay up (just) because they have gained enough points, not because they are any good, but because the opposition have had a rare off day.

The owner tells the fans that staying in the PL is the aim every season and that has been achieved. That the club cannot afford to spend money like a top four club (despite giving a £4.5 million salary to a non-scoring Brazilian). The football on offer is crap and despite what the owner says the fans demand better. The demeanour of the manager is downbeat but at least he’s a local lad so that’s fine.

So what do the fans do? Demand the owner sells the club (but not to some dodgy Saudi backed consortium).

Yes, Scunthorpe United are not in a unique position, but that doesn’t make it any easier us to swallow.

Perhaps it’s not just the manager who needs to learn from his mistakes.

Some really good comments on here,we all want the club to move on year on year, not have a chairman tell us how lucky we are to have a football club accepting struggling year after year in league 2 playing non entertaining dross.
At the moment I know it’s tough but all clubs are in the same situation,we need a chairman, manager, and team who will make a difference and encourage supporters to attend games on a regular basis, what about a season with season tickets at £120 ,put bums on seats if allowed, create an atmosphere.
Positivity breeds positivity, come on Swanny we have had all the bluster and false promises time to make a difference in a positive way, actions speak louder than words.

Oh good grief, this shite again?

“Customer: one who pays for an item, a service OR TO BE ENTERTAINED”.

That’s us, despite what your lies say.
Do you think we pay just because we love the club?
If that were the case, why go at all? Just send the club £20 every fortnight.
    Get a grip, man.

UTI99 needs to realize that it’s the club who has transformed fans into customers.

Ability to pay has become more important than loyalty and commitment.

Swann’s response to the elderly season ticket holder is perfect example, with decades of loyalty dismissed as irrelevant. His response was ‘fine, if he’s not happy, then he should stop going.’

But that, UTI99, is not how you grow the fan base. It is not how you develop fans of the brand, fans who these days have a limitless choice of entertainment.

Saying that fans’ attitudes “stink”, doesn’t help either. It just enrages supporters, and has the potential to be another ‘morongate’ moment which divides fans and club even further.

Really, if Swann junior did Business Studies at uni, dad should be asking for his money back.

Uptheiron99—–you take the piss by calling us suooiters customers, well pal I am a supporter and a customer, and have pribably put many, many thousands of pounds into the club over 69 years, it started in 1951 at 6d per week, and after just thinking, this season has cost £240 for my pensioners season ticket, I didn’t get it at the pre-season special price, and like most other true fans, did not want or request any refund for the clubs offer regarding the lost games from last deason, and on top of this, there is the added cost of the 23 away i-follower games at £10 each, so this is a total cost of about £500 to me, and there will be a good few others like myself.

So when you slag us off Uptheiron99, I think that we can probably be called suporters!!, and at least the Chairman could have said to the elderly guy that he was sorry to hear that he would be no longer be getting his usual season ticket, and hope that he has a change of mind. So do you still feel that suporters do not have any reason to complain about Coxes defensive rubbish being presented to us, I am wondering if Mr Cox will invite myself for a chat????

Good point over your £500 BS. I’ve just counted the games I’ve watched and it’s 27. So I’ve spent £270 myself! Blimey!

Sun is shining so off out for a walk now. If I’m back for 2:00 – 2:15 I buy a pass, otherwise I’ll not bother after witnessing the non-events of Tuesday.

    Rapidly losing interest.

    The state of our Chairman…
Can’t play two up top because of COVID
Having a go at the old boy season ticket holder
    Covid only affects Scunny
The guy just makes it up as he goes along
Not forgetting the standard veiled threat about ‘I could’ve walked away’

Do us all a favour and carry it out.

Swann might like to try putting SUFC up for sale, he may be surprised at the interest he’d get. Derby County and Ipswich Town have new owners this week, and Ipswich don’t even own their stadium. Of course, he could have good reasons to stay put… 🏠🏡🏠 💷

The difference is Derby and Ipswich could sustain a decent Championship team with 20k plus gates or even a tier 3 Premiership side with 30k plus turning up. We would get 5k in the Championship and 7k in the Premiership. Even those gates would need to sell out the away end to achieve.

Anyone with funds wanting to own a genuine lower league side I am sure could probably pick one up for free just now. I suspect you know who is bored playing football manager and is hanging on until he has sold his block of flats with football pitch attached. (Football pitch optional)

If the chairman wants to see a dignified way to handle criticism, he should look no further Neil Cox.

He’s come across well this week and I was impressed with his calm response on Humberside prior to the game.

Pay attention at the back, Ipswich Town don’t own their stadium, then again neither do the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle United and others. Rumour has it a consortium is interested in buying Hull City, although I heard that one eighty four months ago!

Talk is so easy Cliff, results of what is said is the difficult task, we have had it for over seven years :-

    A £45 million New Stadium.
Then another new stadium. 55 acre of land offered for £5
Then a £25 million reburbishment of GP.
Added to this, 160 appartments built near club car park.
Then, we will aim for the Championship.

Result of all these dreams being:-
    Astruggling League Two team.
Fans still peering round support columns in the Cluggy stand.
And a team that plays defensive unentertaining tripe week after week.
Added to that the club are probably about £12,000,000 in debt.
Then the latest killer blow being “you are lucky to have a team at all”

In the current financial climate that last sentence is 100% true.

Who do you think is making up the financial shortfall? There’s no money tree on GP land.

I won’t use the Chairman’s ambition as a stick to beat him with, Barton. In fairness he gave it a pretty good go at getting us into the championship and put his money where his mouth was. He’s also not the first, and certainly won’t be the last to hit numerous stumbling blocks in relocating a football ground; perhaps in hindsight constantly giving completion dates was his downfall.

But you are correct that Fans shouldn’t be patronised or criticised for voicing discontent about our current position. Hardly going to entice the faithful back.

Dear Mr Swann, I would like to give you my version of how I believe you have broken our football club. You came along saying all the things Iron supporters wanted to hear with plans for a new ground and new beginings for the club, you had no intentions of fulfilling that promise in fact I think your actually incapable of achieving such a dream. That then got watered down to an upgrade of Glanford Park (real name) again you know that was never going to happen, more lies used just to keep your popularity up. You have now saddled us with the worse team in our football league history but luckily there are a couple of teams worse than us. We have defenders unable to do basic defending, midfielders who cannot controll or pass the ball and strikers who are simply a joke, your coaches and managers are absolutely pathetic for not even getting the basic skills out of the dross they are working with. Then theres the issue of debt and to be honest I dont even know where to start there but I’m sure you will be giving us an update soon on that. To sum it up Mr Swann you have been a complete disaster for SUFC and I hold you in complete contempt for that and look forward to seeing the back of you very soon. You can only con football fans for so long and you are well past that period of time.
    John Charles, long time supporter.
