Shouldn’t open the wine early on a Sunday. Apologies Awaywego.

September 5, 2022 at 12:51 pm #244538Never mind this rubbish about the importance of being in management or having an insider’s overview in order to talk sense about the state of the club.
On the contrary, it’s often an advantage to be on the outside because supporters are less likely to be swayed by groupthink or dogma.
Most fans have seen for many years that things aren’t right, that the club’s going from bad to worse with defeat after defeat and rubbish football, yet the board have continued in their own way, unswayed by public opinion, each member appointed to sing the song Swann wanted to hear.
That’s where the club has gone wrong, and look what’s happened. It’s like a plane on an increasingly unsalvageable crash course, while the crew look up and admire the sky.
No, it would be wrong to dismiss the views of those on the outside. Those without a stake are often the sanest and most clear-sighted ones around.3 users thanked author for this post.
September 5, 2022 at 4:32 pm #244543For once I largely agree with you, Gurny, though I do understand Les’s point. Football supporters aren’t always the most rational when talking about their club and in my case I’ve always supported the owner as much as possible, regardless of who it might be, because supporters are notorious in blaming them for everything. Clearly I was wrong in Swann’s case.
In my defence I couldn’t see how anyone could possibly take a club doing well at the top of the third tier and plunge it to the depths of non-league, with or without a pandemic. Yet Swann’s managed to do it. I don’t know if there are any stats on the worst football club owners of all time, but given what’s happened at SUFC it’s hard to believe Swann wouldn’t be up there with the worst of them.
Regarding him selling the club, I must confess that I’ve no idea what the latest might be as my interest has been sapped by our predicament over the last few months. Something that should be borne in mind, however, is that just as the sale of any business has to take account of ‘goodwill’, surely the price of SUFC should take account of the ‘badwill’ (or negative goodwill) generated by Swann; and, let’s face it, there’s plenty of that around, to say nothing of our dire league position.
Regardless of any hard assets, the future of the club is now bleak and IF Swann has any conscience he’ll take this into account and offer the club for a reasonable price. But I’m not holding my breath. What a total and utter disaster this man has been.

September 5, 2022 at 6:41 pm #244549Blimey. I didn’t think my last reply was that slanderous or offensive! I was just saying I think Swann is up there with the worst owners. :-O
Good to see Bucks admit his wrongs here. :-)
September 5, 2022 at 8:16 pm #244552Which last post? I can only see some post about non-footy?
September 5, 2022 at 8:23 pm #244553One which has now been deleted.
September 5, 2022 at 11:04 pm #244558Oh, okay. Didn’t see it.

Oh…are we on that track again, deleting posts that might upset the great man?
What with up to three adverts at a time flickering away on my phone screen, waiting an age for the Login page to load, while adverts play instantly, and now censorship again. this site is becoming increasingly unusable.
September 6, 2022 at 9:06 am #244561Unfair when you don’t know what was in the post. Maybe prudence rather than censorship?

Dear Prudence eh, never did want to come out to play.

September 6, 2022 at 9:26 am #244563I am sure that is the motive, though I hadn’t made any accusations. I just said that he’s up there with other owners deemed poor (with non-sweary nicknames for these).
Anyway, I realise that running this site brings such risk, so I don’t want to make anything more of it.

September 6, 2022 at 9:31 am #244564Nice to see you’ve thrown your principles and morals away Alcy and grace us with your presence again , have you thought of mending those fences with the club and Swanny. Did Swanny ever censor you?. Maybe some humble pie wouldn’t go amiss lol.

No he just f***ed our club up. ( took the liberty of pre-empting you alcy, apologies )
September 6, 2022 at 1:47 pm #244575Swann must be living in some alternate reality. He can’t keep choosing to hide away, surely ?

September 6, 2022 at 9:56 pm #244599You can fill yer boots after today’s events!
September 7, 2022 at 8:27 pm #244608Who thinks Swann is a coward? He resigns as Chairman, but that’s made no difference to the disastrous situation to which he has taken our Scunthorpe United. He puts Lee Turbull in there as Chief Operating Officer, in name only, and allows a fans director on the board, Neil Wright, who has no say or knowledge whatsoever as to what the present situation is or what Swanns future intentions are. So Swann disappears, the invisible man, and leaves everyone else to take the flak.

September 8, 2022 at 12:53 am #244617Humberside have tried to set something up to get clarification on any potential deal and he’s nowhere to be seen. They clearly can’t get hold of him.
It appears he’s gone into hiding. Swannster has probably locked himself inside his crystal encrusted panic room !
September 8, 2022 at 7:42 am #244620I’ll say it again for the gullible:
There is no takeover.September 8, 2022 at 9:13 am #244625In that case let’s hope Swanny just holds onto the club until someone is interested, that was always my fear that there would be no one out there who would want lickle old Scunthorpe. But you Alcy assured us there would be.
September 8, 2022 at 9:24 am #244627There are people out there. Just not people prepared to pay 2 or 3 times the clubs value.
September 8, 2022 at 9:25 am #244628Even if you’ve a clapped out car there’ll be someone interested in buying it.
But if you’re asking silly money for it!
In which case no one is interested and it ends up going to the scrapyard.
September 8, 2022 at 10:00 am #244632And your source MK? That he’s asking 2 or 3 times it’s real value, the ground and land valued at £5 million (club account’s) so I guess upwards of that, ready made business and all.
September 8, 2022 at 10:06 am #244633It’s that old HP sauce moment again, just to recap, 6 million for a supporters backed consortium, 8 million for an outside bid. Reliable source not sauce.
September 8, 2022 at 10:11 am #244635Valuations in company accounts have more to do with what the shareholders need the valuation to be than the the market value.
That is true of SUFC and Coolsilk as it is of most businesses. Even that valuation is from a long time before the team was propping up the National League.
An independent market valuation would be interesting. A piece of land with planning permission for some apartments is worth a few quid but a long way short of £5m.
A football club with a future in NLN beckoning is worth very little in terms of market value.
September 8, 2022 at 10:21 am #244637Swann wrote off a debt of £11m in exchange for the ground, won’t he want to recoup that?
