Played against Rick mid 80s and he embarrassed me-probably relayed that one before.

I only remember Deere as a CB. Would have been ’75, 76?

We sold him to Hull in 73 DM but he did return after a short spell in non league to finish his career with us from 78 to 1980. Legs had gone by then compared to his early days but was still a fans favourite.

Must have been around ’78 then. Too early for me in ’73!

Loved this team. Not a dream team by any stretch but always gave a good shift (2nd post down, our old matchday programme):

It’s gonna be great to see all these signings flooding in over the next three days.
IMHO, we need eight – all with experience.
I’m so looking forward to it!

Excuse me for being thick, but why eight days?

Most contracts aren’t up until 30th.

Most contracts aren’t up until 30th.

8 players in before pre-season training starts (in 3 days at time of posting) is what les is hoping for. He knows, as we all do, that it’s very unlikely to happen but his optimists hat sits firmly on his head. Mine is already in the suitcase on top of the wardrobe.

Everybody needs to lower there expectations, If the likes of George Miller can get a 3 year contract from Doncaster, Bradford were in for him as well. Rumour as it he never scored a goal for us.

I think Lesgeo was hoping to have some players in for the start of pre-season. Based on the last 3 or so years very optimistic. The owner was at least pretending to be interested then.

According to twitter were after a striker who’s been plying his trade in national league and has scored a mind blowing 13 goals in 7, yes SEVEN season’s at that level.

I don’t do Twitter WG, only the SUFC one on the off chance there’s something on there that’s not restaurant or season ticket based. Where should I be looking for the more interesting stuff that you find?

I simply typed in Owen Mason and started reading the fellow fan responses. The striker post popped up within people moaning at us seemingly chasing a teenage GK.

I think Lesgeo was hoping to have some players in for the start of pre-season.

But part of the fun of pre-season is trying to work out the identity of Trialist A, Trialist B etc.

Then wondering why the good ones have been sent back and the dross offered a two year contract!

be lucky to a mass 8 signings in the next 12 months not a few days … by then we will be dropping into the Conference North.

I simply cant see any righ minded semi decent pro footballer even contemplating coming to Scunny

    Pros
Hang on need time to think
Guaranteed a first team spot ..if fit
Nice new apartment in the fantastic new development built next to the ground ..oh scrub that !!

    Cons
    Toxic state of the club
    Ownership limbo
Crap wages due to a budget lower than most others in the NL
uncertain Future re the club even remaining in business
Being a non league club players will sign for any club that is in the league.
The beach in Scunny isnt that nice and the high st and night life is drab
Having to listen to Hills BS on a daily basis and the solid promise of being played out of position then told your just not good enough at this level.
The smell of Drapolyne nappy rash cream emminating from some of the younger players that form the back bone of the side.
Getting thumped every week by former footballing power houses like Aldershot and Barnet
The perminent doom n gloom .. dark clouds over the town are the norm
Swann n family AND yes man Hill.
Boycie must have had one too many sherries or just very desperate to come back home ..

    please add any ive missed

    WHERE DO I SIGN ????

Henceforth im prediction not a lot of action re players coming in .. also the likes of Taft will be going..

    Thanks Peter

The simple answer, AWG, is that once you get to the last week in June you will invariably be picking up leftovers.
By and large, the players signed once training is already underway, tend not to be very good.
This is something fans have witnessed season after season. The later the signings the poorer they tend to be.
After training has begun, you may well be getting the worst of the dregs.
In addition, in the past, many latecomers have been young loanees. My heart sinks at the prospect of what we can attract in this division when you see what we got in League Two.

I have been working to what seems a natural cut-off – the day after tomorrow. It’s not really a random shot in the dark.

Other clubs making signings – and us a single outfield player with experience sounds pretty desperate when you need 8 or 9 in with experience who should automatically be vying for a first team slot.

If most of that lot aren’t in within 48 hours – I really can’t see any hope.
Even 5th or 6th from bottom would be an unexpected blessing.

also signing players late we seem to get players with a bit of skill but are small and are not strong bullying type of players who can push teams back and put pressure on them, the same can be said of the young players who apart from Gallimore need to bulk up a bit because they are too lightweight.

Will 2022-23 be the longest season?

He’ll be there to countersign the contracts of the 8 new players that Keith has lined up ready for the return to training.

Speaks volumes … whilst all around football clubs notably in L2 (WALSAL CODS AS EXAMPLES) and NL (WOKING ALDERSHOT) are signing players at will nary a whisper of any action at SUFC, the Parker pen is primed ready for the rush of last minute signings and the book of Hill cliches open and on chapter entitiled
“New players must say this to the media”…
its great to be here .. a dream move for me.. it was great to meet the BOYS a great bunch of lads.. the gaffa has told me my role hes a great guy we go back along way.. i want to get the club back on track ..its will take time but im fit determined and ready to play anywhere… money was not an issue .. the chairman seems like a really nice guy whose heart is in the club.

Note in case of emergency fire exits to the rear , left and right ..

Up the creek without a paddle and the boat has sprung a leak .. it aint looking good and a very tough season awaits

Yep, been on the website awaywego. The only update today I can see is a gallery of images of players returning to training. How does that correlate to your teaser post above?
