Whoosh. My point wasn’t to justify disturbance from any political persuasion. I was merely pointing out the double standards on this issue. :-)
Anyway, this is off topic, so will leave it at that. :-)
February 22, 2022 at 10:56 am #232540When did we get so precious about the pitch? Who cares if a few people come on the pitch to celebrate a goal?
Who cares? The players and officials who don’t need the aggravation and chance of being assaulted?!

February 22, 2022 at 11:04 am #232543Yep one thing leads to another, fans run on pitch to celebrate, one offers verbal to player, another fan sees this and decides to push player whilst taunting him. These things can soon escalate into something ugly. Don’t run on the pitch, It’s illegal as is throwing flares, it can lead to injuries that’s why both are banned. Bloody Muppets just won’t be told but they are the first to say ” but we love our football and we are proper fans “. Load of bollocks, just a bunch of idiots who will f*** the game up eventually if allowed to do what they want.

I must have missed these assaults in all the reports I’ve read from Saturday.
Players have been hit by stuff chucked from people in the stands – are we to ban people from stands now?
Look, I’ve no problem with people being kicked out for being idiots, that’s obvious. I just don’t understand why we have become some puritanical about people coming on the pitch. When you watch replays of that Ronnie Radford goal at Hereford, do you clutch your pearls and worry about the Newcastle players?

All about context.
Wasn’t a particularly important game for Rochdale and there’s a few lads just strolling around taunting our players.

February 22, 2022 at 1:11 pm #232559As for the Ronnie Radford moment, that was 1972, haven’t we learned or moved on from that time. The game has changed, policing the game has changed and stewarding the game has changed. We can’t keep on reliving the past and say this is still acceptable today.

Now there’s a straw man argument, along with the Hereford reference. I don’t pine for the stinking latrine at the side of the OSG’s DRE but I still miss the OSG.
February 22, 2022 at 3:51 pm #232577Just want to clarify Ferrite that I’m not ‘clutching pearls’ or being ‘puritanical’ about this. I’m not averse to a bit of over exuberance and wild celebration but there’s good reasons why fans are not allowed on the pitch, period, and I’d rather not see a return to the 80s fences or before that hordes of malicious opposition fans surrounding us and occasionally kicking a few innocent heads in. For every Hereford you’ve got a Luton v Millwall and it’s impossible to know who’s on the pitch with good intentions and who bad (don’t think you’ve got time to conduct a survey of them before they scale the wall). If everyone stays off the pitch, it’s better for everyone and less chance of an escalation and ugly scenes. Apologies if this seems a bit sensible and not geezerish for some on here (not you btw).

February 22, 2022 at 4:02 pm #232585Quite enjoyed the ” clutching pearls ” comment from Ferrite DM, did it not make you think to check your handbag before tonight’s game, I will be checking mine for sure 😂😂😂

February 22, 2022 at 4:08 pm #232590I might pop into the Iron Bar and see if they can rustle me up a quick port and lemon before KO.

I certainly see where you’re coming from but at the same time I don’t see why such a hard & fast line needs to be drawn: if you are violent or whatever, you deserve what you get. If you go on the pitch briefly in celebration, where’s the harm?
When I was younger, I remember running on the pitch at the end of test matches, it was brilliant. But the authorities frowned on it and now there are massive fines for pitch encroachment, which I think is a real shame because as a young kid I found it so exciting to get the chance to go on the outfield at the end of the match and watch the presentation.

Not condoning anything being thrown from the stands, but had no sympathy for the Man Utd players led by Maguire deliberately taunting the Leeds fans after he scored.
They did it again after the last goal, minutes after the scorer was complaining about being hit om the head by a coin.
February 22, 2022 at 5:18 pm #232609To be fair Heath most Iron fans loved it when KVV gave it to the Cods after scoring at Blunder Park in what could well be our last ever league game there.
Not much to cheer since then.

February 22, 2022 at 5:29 pm #232612Just moving back on topic, surely this is more about why away fans seem to be able to get onto the pitch with impunity, while home fans are penned by seemingly dozens of stewards…yet both sets of fans are subject to the same law?
And further, why does the excact opposite seem to be enforced away from home?4 users thanked author for this post.

Difference was KVV got booked for his antics wheras nothing happened to the Manc players, oh I forgot their superstars so they can do want they want, sorry I forgot that rule.
February 22, 2022 at 7:25 pm #232620It was a little more theatrical than Maguire’s poor effort.
The booking was well worth it.

Oh! now come on Heath, take those Man Utd hating glasses off! Players from all clubs have taunted opposition supporters after scoring and one time or another! Vardy does it regularly at Leicester, Adebyor for Spurs v Arsenal, he ran the length of the pitch to taunt the opposition! Love or hate Man Utd its unfair to call them out when every club is at it.
February 23, 2022 at 9:17 am #232654Good points raised Pat although I fail to see why running the length of the pitch arms outstretched taunting opposition supporters is deemed not a booking offence in the Premiership wheras KVV dives in front of cods celebrating and is booked. Either book them all or not at all don’t just give the smaller clubs different treatment.

February 23, 2022 at 9:47 am #232667Adenayor got a yellow card, suspended 2 match ban and 25k fine for that celebration

Was it that obvious???
February 23, 2022 at 3:15 pm #232687As long as I’ve watched football there’s always been one rule for large clubs and another for the little clubs.
And probably always will be.
