Was I mistaken or did a Steward handcuff someone today before ejecting him ?

March 26, 2022 at 6:58 pm #234219When I left the ground I got chatting to a bloke with a young lad, and apart from the performance he was disgusted what had gone on with that arrest, said he had never seen anything like it in his 40 years following the Iron at a home game.
March 26, 2022 at 7:13 pm #234221Since when were stewards, bouncers, hired hooligans to take workers of a ferry given the rights to use handcuffs?
March 26, 2022 at 7:39 pm #234222We were right behind the incident. Not close enough to know what was said in the run up ..but the lad who was handcuffed had leaped over the wall and launched a full on assault on one of the stewards.
March 26, 2022 at 7:47 pm #234223This could end up very messy for the club no matter what he did.
Will people now start to realise how far THEIR club has been dragged down and you can do nothing to stop it !

In this day and age I have no problem with stewards/security taking a safety first approach. Very professional with the way they restrained and removed him from the stadium.

March 26, 2022 at 8:43 pm #234229They march up the stand, rile up the fans and then chuck them out.
I have no respect for them at all.

March 26, 2022 at 9:41 pm #234239Hundreds of “fans” have invaded the playing area at dozens of grounds over the decades.
To my knowledge those perpetrators were removed without having to be handcuffed.
Of course in those days it was the good old British Bobby taking charge.
Then again, nostalgia isn’t what it used to be!

March 26, 2022 at 9:44 pm #234240The guy that jumped over the wall was an idiot, but a knee to the back and application of handcuffs was completely over the top. I have never seen anything like it in a football stadium.

March 26, 2022 at 9:48 pm #234246Many moons ago at the old showground I remember a copper used to walk close the wall at the Henderson avenue corner, he used to poke and goad until he got a reaction, somebody always took up his offer and ended up arrested. Then one day instead of poking back, an arm came out and he was dragged over the wall into the stand !!. As to nowadays, I noticed on my last couple of visits that the stewarding seems to have changed the mood, simple tip , don’t bother, save twenty quid and leave them to it.
March 26, 2022 at 9:51 pm #234247The SIA do not endorse or decline to endorse the use of handcuffs.
These wankers are not licensed to use them. They are essentially members of the public performing a citizens arrest.
I could theoretically take some at the next home game and cuff these failed coopers but I’d be done for assault, as should the steward today.
About time the club fucked these bully boys off

March 26, 2022 at 9:53 pm #234248But at the away end they are under different rules, but fair play to Harrogate fans they seemed well behaved but you can’t say that about some away fans this season.

In which case shouldn’t we be questioning said training?
Or is this part of Ms Patel’s police and crime bill?

Mansfield fans in a couple of weeks will be all over our pitch when they score (probably more than once).

I remember that copper Cokeoven, he was a thin police guy and he used to stand right up to the rear of someone and prod the supporter normally it was in the corner where that hut was at the rear, in fact I used to watch him do this, he never failed to do his stuff of causing trouble by trying to provoke fans.

Wow!
What if…
The handcuffed person trips and falls face forward in to the close by perimeter wall?
The detainee can not put their arms out to protect themselves whilst falling.
The detainee suffers a severe brain injury.
The detainee dies!What if?
We now have our very own George Floyd type incident.
SIA Trained Safety Stewards with handcuffs.
What next, German Shepherd Safety Guard Dogs?Employing individuals as private security dictates that the “security guard / bouncer” has to be SIA Licensed.
Imagine an unlicensed security guard handcuffs a supporter – litigation would no doubt ensue. Fines and prison are the penalties.
March 27, 2022 at 10:12 am #234285You can tell how bad the football is when people are spending so much time talking about a little wanker who broke the law. Serves him right in my view.
If we had won he would never have been mentioned.

March 27, 2022 at 11:40 am #234289Lots of differing opinions on this matter but whatever the rights and wrongs of yesterday’s incident ( I was shocked by what went on BTW ) this whole unsavoury episode just reflects badly on our club and it’s current state. What have we become when there is such a toxic atmosphere between fans and the people running our football club? Without fans there is no club but until this current ownership is gone I can’t see anyway back for any sort of relationship between fans and club owner and as a result the club, the thing that is important to every fan of SUFC, is on a massive downward spiral with no real way of surviving successfully.
I have never felt so low morale wise as an Iron fan after what I witnessed yesterday, an unacceptable second half performance from our football team and unacceptable treatment of a fan, thug, idiot call him what you like being dragged away with his hands cuffed behind his back. By all means throw him out if necessary but like many others I have never seen that sort of thing happen before in my 58 years of being an Iron fan.
The majority of fans staying away have done so to demonstrate to Swann that they are unhappy with the way he is running our football club, after yesterday I believe many more will follow. What a bloody mess from start to finish, where do we go from here apart from downwards at an alarming rate I fear.8 users thanked author for this post.

March 27, 2022 at 12:23 pm #234295Would seem like the fan, thug call him what you like was let down by others who were there, if hundreds had run on he wouldn’t have got handcuffed, that fan will now get at least a ground ban for trying to express what most of you agree with. Piss poor effort again by Iron fans still can’t get a decent protest going.

Did not realise you were aware exactly what went on and all the circumstances , were you one of the stewards/security people involved? If so please give us all on this forum a full, fair unbiased account.
