There were some terrible performances on that pitch: Loft awful, Scrimshaw ineffective, Green inexistent, Beestin aimless, Millen hopeless, O’Malley gormless, Taft asleep.

And yet Stevenage were worse and we should have won. But we didn’t. And that’s why we’re going down.

We look so much better under Hill but we’re still crap. The defence is terrible under any high ball and going forward we are so laboured.

    Taft was really mediocre.
(Somebody said Green played. Is this true?)
There was so much to like though:
    Good goalkeeping.
We were fitter than they were – when was the last time that was the case?
    The organisation was better.
    Passing was better.
Movement off the ball was better.
    Hippo was clear MOTM.
    Everybody grafted.

Yes, IA – it was a 1970s ugly spectacle but an occasional supporter with me was actually quite impressed.

I was pleased as we can see the effects Hill is having. A few signings for the spine and we will surely be okay.

Interesting how many loanees he is playing in the starting 11.

Well by the stats we had most of everything apart from goals.

Up the Iron, pity Keith Hill wasn’t here 18 months ago, sorry to say but Neil is a coach but not a manager, just a pity.

This would have been a good point, if only we could win a home game for a change, one good thing being that both the other two teams near us both lost 0-1, which gives us 15 points, Oldham 15 points and Carlisle 16 points, and Stevenage and Barrow not too far in front of us three, but we must win a few matches, we cannot rely on the other tewams losing every week.

    My ratings for tonight are:-

WATSON—8—Had a good game once again and the defence in front of him were dodgy
    MILLEN—6—Too many poor passes.
    O’MALLEY—6— Did ok.
TAFT–4–Had a very poor game, and caused too much trouble in our third of the pitch.
    ONARIASE–7—Played well as usual.
GREEN—5—Went off injured again, fast but no real threat up front.
BEESTIN—6—Started well but faded second half.
    HIPPOLYTE–8—My MOM

Watson had little to do apart from pick the ball out of the net and watch some late shots flash wide. Did nothing wrong though and good to see him back from his injury.

For all that we’ve improved, and we have, we’re still crap. We dominated that game but never created the chances to win it. Loft was even more anonymous than Green, surely that has to be one of his last games in a Scunthorpe shirt?

HIPPOLYTE—8–My MOM tonight, played very well although dropped a bit too deep last 20 mins.
    ROWE—6—Did ok.
    JARVIS—5—Did nothing really, wanted subing.
PUGH—5—Played hard, but took his 6th booking.

Loft—4—Did absolutely nothing, should have stayed on the bench.

    REF—8—Good ref.

Hill—7–The team certyainly looked fiter, and fought well, but although lucky at times, should have beaten a poor Stevenage team, but could so easily have lost it.

Next three games are vital, but we must win a couple of them!!!

PITCH—9—The grass looked so good for December.

Deffo Ferrite, Green is surely ‘playing’ (and I use the term loosely) probably 3 or 4 levels above where he should be, and needs shipping out in January – along with Taft, who’s become a liability this season. He made so many mistakes tonight.

No wonder we are bottom of the league.

According to BS we are only playing with 8 players.

I thought that Watson cut out many crosses cleanly, whereas their keeper dropped our three crosses, one resulting in our goal, but we have nothing up front have we? Watson will certainly do for me, but we need to start cutting out these five changes every match.

It’s good that we’re getting more possession under Hill and not the usual 30% like we were under Cox, but jeez we’re so poor in the final third! Stevenage had much better chances than us and were only whiskers away from scoring on multiple occasions…any high ball over the top and we were a complete shambles.

January can’t come quick enough, CB (to replace the truly dreadful Taft) and a decent striker are a must.

Yes, MK Iron, it got sent before finishing for some reason, but finished it five mins later, so please do not be too hard on me pal, it’s only a forum and I am too old to get every thing right, or should I say anything right ha ha!

    Only joking BS.

Pretty much agree with your ratings other than would have given Green and Onariase 1 less each.

We all want wins but an away point is always welcome particularly when we are having such a dreadful season thus far but it’s the home form that needs turning round in terms of draws into wins. Look it’s gonna be a bloody wonderful achievement if we stay in the league this season and we all know that but if Hill can get us firing at home and start picking up a few wins instead of draws then away points will suddenly become survival gold in the long term. Roll on January and until then we have to trust Hill keeps gradually improving the players, fitness wise he must be almost there in completely transforming such an unfit squad into reasonably good athletes that can go for the full 90 minutes. Hartlepool play tomorrow, that extra days rest and our improved fitness just might be the difference on Saturday.

    1st game watched this season.
Wow how dog turd are we and won’t bother for the rest of the season if that’s what’s on the menu.

Defence is truly shocking. Seen more pace in a striking snail than that back four put together.

As for the rest of them bar from Hippo crikey they’d struggle to get in Brigg towns squad. Basics of passing a ball would be a starters.

Poor Hilly he’s got his work cut out with this poor bunch.
He needs freedom of Scunny if he can re attach the rudder let alone an oar to row us to safety.

Oh well few hundred quid saved again this season.

Loft is an absolute waste of space, if he was the kit man it would be too much for him. He’s defo not a striker.

Les – I agree that Hill has taken the team and improved them beyond what Cox was capable of. He has got them fitter, working harder off the ball and seem to be trying to implement Hill’s philosophy.

The massive issue is the players are still a mish mash of average NL North players. You could see the improvement but we were still on a par with the worst team I’ve seen even after the improvements.

Most important January in the club’s history coming up

On my reckoning we’ll now reach the massive total of 36 points this season.
    Won’t keep us up.
What’s the record lowest number of points ever, barring deductions? We do set records under Swanny, don’t we?

Meanwhile, loads on here still talking about January.
Have any of you got insider info that Swanny has paid off the loan that is hampering our ability to make signings, or will do so?

Because if not, clouds and cuckoos come to mind.

It doesn’t matter though, does it? It only matters that we get more points than 2 other teams and fortunately Oldham & Carlisle are almost as bad as us. It may not be enough to save us but it’s starting to look distinctly like 2 from those 3, with Stevenage an outside candidate to get sucked in.

I completely agree we will probably need 40-45 points to stay up but you never know….

In a slightly different direction, check out the match report in the Telegraph, then check the match report on BBC sport.
Copy and paste, definitely a copyright issue there.

Unless the ST Sports Editor wrote the report for the BBC?
Would the ST have gone to Stevenage given their relationship with The Club?

I know Chris Sumpter and he does it for a Sporting Agency and you see his reports on teletext and papers, so maybe someone who did it for the GT does it for BBC.

On the Iron Army video there was a Ginner wearing specs going apeshit behind the away end goal, that may have been Max 🤔
