When the slaver statues were being torn down, one argument was that they were there for historical purposes. It will be interesting to see if the same voices condemn this as destroying history. Personally, I have no problem with Coulston or this being removed. Both were monuments to very problematic people/regimes, and removing that is no worry of mine.

It’s all part of history whether you like it or not.
Since the Colossus of Nero was pulled down two thousand years ago it’s been a way of documenting the mood of the people.
It does depend on the context. The Taliban destroying the Buddhist statues of Bamiyan was cultural vandalism.
Indeed so, but it is how history will record the role of the Taliban.
Was the Puritan iconoclasm that followed the Reformation cultural vandalism or purification?
There is no right or wrong answer.
