I believe we were given an allocation of 500 tickets for the away end at Hartlepool today. When I rang the ticket office earlier in the week the lass on the phone said we’d sold around 100.
On that basis I decided to pay on the day as it would be cheaper than having my ticket posted to me.
So plenty of room to sit where I wanted I thought. Wrong! HUFC had in their wisdom netted over whole banks of seating, effectively shoe-horning Iron fans into a small area of the away stand.
My only conclusion on this was that they had not accounted for away fans paying on the day. Of which there was clearly a few. But despite protestations (mostly civil) from Iron fans the stewards could not, or would not uncover an extra block of seating.
With a pandemic still effecting events and hospitality venues (and likely to get worse as the winter progresses) surely making all seats available so social distancing could be at the individual’s choice the decision was made to bundle everyone together. Well done Pools!
BTW. Was that you Awaywego that threw that flare?
December 11, 2021 at 10:11 pm #219116No but it was me who tore the netting up on the left side of goal, women should be kept away from football the chief woman steward in the yellow coat was a complete C, worst stewarding for a long time, wouldn’t mind if there was an hooligan element to it but it was old men trying to sort it, they wanted to separate me and the grandkids because there weren’t 3 seats together on arriving at 10 to 3 wasn’t gonna happen hence net ripping, Seems like Hartlepool was on the rob like Mansfield has entrance on the day didn’t go down on the away attendance 228 Iron fans my arse well over 300 there.

December 11, 2021 at 11:55 pm #219123You did right Awaywego, if they cannot use a bit of sense, you must try and sort situations like that out yourself, kids must be looked after, and to sheet off many seats and heard everyone into a small area is bloody stupid and dangerous.

December 13, 2021 at 2:07 pm #219188Carl Broughton safety officer and that’s were complaint should go. According to reply the stewards following his instructions. Pretty poor organisation I agree

December 13, 2021 at 2:43 pm #219191I noticed this on the highlights and thought it was ridiculous – there is a whole stand there, why not let people spread out? They don’t pen everyone in in the home ends, do they?

December 13, 2021 at 4:51 pm #219197Similar situation at Walsall a few seasons back but their stewards saw sense after some badgering by Iron fans and it got resolved pretty quickly, good day all round as we won 2-1 with Novak bagging the winner.

December 13, 2021 at 5:27 pm #219202I never understood it in the past but assumed there were “reasons” but surely there cannot be a justification at the moment?
December 13, 2021 at 7:52 pm #219209At Walsall it was Iron fans again who resolved it, the net was ripped up there as well, the reason at Walsall was Sunderland fans invaded the pitch in the previous game so they wanted to contain us in the corner,in the end the police had the head safety officer removed due to his attitude. Kvv mum was there that day she thought it was a hoot, though kev never got on the pitch that day, she asked for a photo with her and my grandkids as many were singing his name, happy days Ironawe, at the time we were on a decent run of form but we still got relegated.
