October 22, 2023 at 2:21 am #275719Players heaping pressure to perform on themselves and these silly mistakes wont help , hoping being at home will get them over the line though will be a tough game .. Spennymoor going well , around the top ov the table and will be well rested as their game was called off yesterday.
head says 0-0
heart says 2-1 ScunnyOctober 22, 2023 at 10:49 am #275728Wonder if they’ll sing the Jamie Chandler songs!
October 24, 2023 at 2:34 pm #275788Would there be enough available seats to break that attendance record?
October 24, 2023 at 2:46 pm #275791Prediction for tonight:
A poor performance. Decent but increasingly frustrating tippy tappy and no engine room.

Looks like their danger man is Glen Taylor, a consistent 20 goal a season striker at this level.
October 24, 2023 at 8:07 pm #2758132-0 up so far so good..

October 24, 2023 at 10:13 pm #275823The four changes made a massive difference. Smith, Clunan, Law and Ogle were all excellent!
October 24, 2023 at 10:18 pm #275824At 2-0 they changed to a 5 man midfield and we were getting over run over till Dentons cross killed them off. What a difference Clunan made and what a game Scales and Smith had, god night all round.
October 24, 2023 at 10:22 pm #275825Were they doggy doo or were we the dogs whatsits?
October 24, 2023 at 10:34 pm #275826I guess that’s shut a few people up , what a performance and it just shows what happens when your better players start reappearing. We moved the ball quickly and with intelligence, is their a better group of midfield players in this division than Clunan, Butterfield, Scales and Law ? I don’t think there is and notable mention to young Smith who should have had his hat trick but played really well. Good contributions from every Scunny player on show tonight, even Whining Whitehall got a goal and worked hard, well done Iron, you blew Spennymoor off the park.

This was one where we were good rather than them being crap.
Excellent performance all round tonight and a complete contrast from Saturday. Moved the ball quicker, won the second balls in the middle and played more direct.
Midfield lost us the game on Saturday and won it today. All of them played well and Law/Smith have earned themselves another start for me. Encouraging to see the options we are starting to have available now injuries are clearing up.
Clunan looked rusty for the first 10minutes but grew into the game. His positional play is always on point.
Only thing I can moan about tonight was a slightly sub par crowd. Seemed abit flat and a few hundred down on where I expected. We need people coming down more than ever.
A good night though. UTI

October 24, 2023 at 11:00 pm #275829What a night ! Smiths second goal and Butterfields are up there with the best Ive ever seen at GP.
Shout out to the Spennymoor fans, enjoyed the Poznan at 6-0 and good humourOctober 24, 2023 at 11:03 pm #275831Good to see the injured players making a comeback, but with games every Saturday and Tuesday for the next couple of weeks the coaches are going to have to manage things carefully.
October 24, 2023 at 11:04 pm #275832Well done to the ‘moors players too. We’ve had several seasons with a team whose heads dropped at 1 down. They were still trying at 5-0.

October 25, 2023 at 12:06 am #275835What a good game for the supporters and all concerned tonight, this result was not like I thought would happen, and the turnround of the performance from Sayurday was great to see. I only watched the match on NLN coverage on my computer, but really enjoyed it, Butterfield, Seales, Smith and Clunan were outstanding and the rest of the team played how a team with players of the Scunthorpe squad standard should be playing most games. Tamqorth are still 5 points clear of Scunny from the same games, and we need to catch them over the next few weeks, as only one club get automatic promotion, but if the lads play like today they will come through.
I cannot think back over my 70 years following Scunny when six class goals ever happened, 4 of them being scored fron 25 yards or over, some really cracking goals!!!!.
So can we get another performance like tonights on Saturday, lets hope so. By the way, is Jimmy back in the dug out ???, bet he enjoyed this game after his spell in hospital.
Well done everyone, and good luck to our new boss Michelle and her board members.
October 25, 2023 at 1:07 am #275836is their a better group of midfield players in this division than Clunan, Butterfield, Scales and Law ?
No, and when you add Beestin, Roberts and smith it starts getting a bit silly for this level of football. I said right from the start that the quality of these players is overkill for where we’re at.
You can tell tonight just how good Clunan and Laws are and how much we’ve missed them. Beestin, Law and Clunan out all out once would hit a league team hard, never mind a team at this level.
I still think we lack a bit of quality up front but the midfield options are on a whole other level.
Beestin back very soon, Kouogun already training as are Roberts and Sembie Ferris. Only will get better from here on in and with our options when tired legs kick in and the fact we’re full time, I fully expect us to kick on and win the league.
HMS Piss the league will gather speed and carry us home.
October 25, 2023 at 3:02 am #275837Well that was a shock !! … every time ive stayed up to listen to the game weve lost so was getting to thinking im a jinx …so… due to the time difference (currently KO 01-45 am here after this weekend 02-45 am) and my current workload i skipped it last night and we play brilliantly and bosh six in, suffice to say jinx or coincidence i will just be listening to the Saturday games from now on.
Lets hope this can act as a spring board for more of the same and get a run going as Tamworth dont seem to be slipping up.
WGs every time you mention HMS PTL it goes tits up so whilst i agree its making a huge difference injured key players returning im still not jumping on board your boat for the ride …love your optimism though.

It went tits up when we had players dropping like flies. All will be back pretty soon as don’t be afraid to get on board !
Thank god Clunan is back as he just makes everything look so easy in CM . Laws too made a huge difference…Smith played fantastic and Scales was Scales. Last time Smith was played in CM he looked lost but playing him further up in final third and he looked brilliant.
Add Beestin and Roberts to that mix and we’ll be firing.
October 25, 2023 at 7:24 am #275843What is it about Clunan?
He is clearly a very skilful CM and leader. He is intelligent. But how come he is SO effective?
Just having him on the pitch and everyone else is suddenly: passing better; moving more quickly; actively looking for space; pressing forward.
The Clunan Factor seems to be far greater than the sum of its parts.October 25, 2023 at 7:26 am #275844I was delighted that Smith played. Saw at Alfreton what he could do and then within a match or two he became the forgotten man. Jenkins is fine but Smith is a notch above.

Chris Plummer must be taking the team I don’t think Jimmy is in a state to do so…

Very happy to be wrong, of course… but it should have been 10-0 last night.

October 25, 2023 at 8:25 am #275853It could easily have been 10-0.
Apart from being a really good player Clunan is continually giving instructions and pointing at what other players should be doing in. He does as much good on the ball as off it. It looked like he had something to say to Whitehall first half when a move broke down due to a bad touch by him. A proper captain.
Jimmy was there in the dugout and occasionally stood near the touch line.October 25, 2023 at 8:52 am #275855It could easily have been 10-0.

Jimmy was there in the dugout and occasionally stood near the touch line.I do think that on-the-field direction is what has been lacking. They’ve been playing some good stuff – tippy tappy, all very nice… often seemingly without purpose. We’ve lacked a leader.
October 25, 2023 at 10:12 am #275859Add Callum Roberts to this and I’ll really be licking my lips.
He’s one of four injured players back in training and soon to be match fit.
Several others are already on the point of fighting to get into the squad.
If we are to battle for the title, clearly fitness is going to be our principal concern.
Thanks, TJO. On the telly you don’t see all these little touches that Clunan brings.
Happily, shall be able to watch live on Saturday.October 25, 2023 at 10:25 am #275861Now Clunan and Law are back and if the likes of Beestin Kouogun and Roberts return from injury and especially Roberts stay fit for a lengthy spell i think it will most certainly change the course of the season (avoiding needless suspensions also helps) …more so i hope non of the first team regulars leave as mentioned by Chris Plummer on the club website ..be a real shame.
