Hi All, Commiserations of the situation you find yourselves in, its not nice to see another football club in disaray as you have been.
Appreciate it’s still a week away so things may still change, but just wondered if anyone has any info on the Game on the 24th? We have 2 busses booked for travel and need to pay the non refundable deposit today, or face losing them. In all likelyhood, we probably could still get them, but obviously we dont want to loose the best part of £600 should the game be postponed or the fixture reversed.
Word from inside Spenny is that over the past week, the game was confirmed, then postponed, then you guys asked for the fixtures to be reversed, then it was back on as originally planned again, so our club have said to hold off as they cant give any guarantees, however before we cancelled we thought we would see if you had any thoughts.
Anyway, should the game go ahead, could you give us so tips or places for food and drink before the game, we would likely be arriving into Scunthorpe around 6PM.
Thanks in advance.
October 17, 2023 at 10:50 am #275453Hi spennysupporters. We Scunthorpe United supporters are as much in the dark as you at Spennymoor as to whether our match, which is only just a week away, is to go ahead or not. No information has been given to our fans whatsoever, in fact deadly silence from our directors since our last home match. You seem to have more information than we do. This is really bad for both sets of supporters as we all love our clubs and our football. I hope we get some news today and that it is good news and that you will be travelling to Glanford Park for the match.
We, SUFC, are in a very precarious situation.October 17, 2023 at 10:52 am #275454Sorry to hear about your predicament i would get your deposit back no idea what’s going on here, if you do come the iron bar at the ground will welcome you, plenty of food outlets within 200 yds of the ground Macs, kentucky and the like, but best to eat in the ground a restaurant takeaway firm are now doing the food the burgers are brill and the pies too especially the lamb and mint, hope the games still on for you.

October 17, 2023 at 11:07 am #275455Awaywego is right. If the match goes ahead you must try our burgers, which are the best I have tasted. They are £5 but worth every penny. Also if you don’t like lamb the steak pies are great too. All home-made food by the Smokin’ Goat local food restauranters.
Please wish us good luck with our football club SUFC continuing to exist!!!!!!!October 17, 2023 at 11:07 am #275456I personally wouldn’t hand over any money until it’s confirmed by our club

October 17, 2023 at 11:16 am #275458Thanks all. We’ll hold off until its confirmed by either club.
We’re quite lucky in Spennymoor being such a small town, everyone knows everyone and everything, so we get information direct from source.
The ground is where we’ll head straight to then. If the game goes ahead, let me know if there will be a collection as we’ll organise a whip round on the busses for you.
Cheers

October 17, 2023 at 11:21 am #275459Thanks for that. We hope to see you at Glanford Park a week today. If you hear any more news glad if you will let us know. Same here. We supporters need to stick together and support one another in times like this.
October 17, 2023 at 11:40 am #275461Given that match ticket sales have been taken off the website, and the fact that Gainsborough Trinity are playing at home next Tuesday, I have a sneaky feeling that this match *may* get postponed.
October 17, 2023 at 12:58 pm #275467It isn’t very good when we find out more about what is going on from Spennymore supporters than our own club.

October 17, 2023 at 1:31 pm #275471I’m just hoping this lack of news about GP means the new board are burning the midnight oil to get a deal over the line asap, also I hope Ernest Prawn isn’t just playing hardball for the sake of it, he needs money, even rental money, because he won’t be too flush with the cash right now after the way his hotel in Blackpool is performing, or not. It’s reported as being still shut.
October 17, 2023 at 2:00 pm #275473because he won’t be too flush with the cash right now after the way his hotel in Blackpool is performing, or not. It’s reported as being still shut.
Never opened did it? Just the bar part as far as I can tell, and the reviews for that are absolutely what you might expect.
October 17, 2023 at 2:05 pm #275475I’d cancel your buses, nobody has a clue what is going on at the moment.
October 17, 2023 at 2:38 pm #275481The JuryeffsOut in reply, its definitely not good when we have to find out anything at all about what is going on with our own Club. In fact I find it to be very disrespectful of our supporters and quite disgraceful.
October 17, 2023 at 2:41 pm #275482Surely if Spennymoor know why should our supporters be kept in the dark about everything. All we are asking for is an update if our next match is to be played and where St. I would have thought the NLN would need notification of this very very soon.
October 17, 2023 at 2:55 pm #275484Could you imagine the furore on here had the game being confirmed, postponed , reversed, and then back on has originally planned. Scunny would have been ripped to shreds you know it would, better to just wait for just one decision.

October 17, 2023 at 3:02 pm #275486You are right about that Awaywego !
Look on the bright side NLI we don’t what’s happening next week but can in fact book bus travel to the next 3 away games….
It seems a shame that Spenny fans want to buy tickets (what’s that in money a couple of grand income to the club ?) and bring at least 2 buses of supporters on a Tuesday night and still don’t know what exactly happening.1 user thanked author for this post.
October 17, 2023 at 4:34 pm #275494I’m living in hope that we can fulfill our home fixtures. Put it this way if we can’t then there won’t be any away games to go to. In fairness to all our supporters we need to know if negotiations to remain at GP are on-going or if they have broken down. Several season ticket holders we know are saying they won’t be able to travel to Gainsborough, if that is what is going to happen. Its the waiting and not knowing that takes its toll.
October 17, 2023 at 6:54 pm #275501All will come out itn the washing NLI, you’ve got a season ticket so if it’s on you go if not you don’t, nothing to difficult there for you, if it’s bothering you so much take the match out of equation and arrange to do something else, maybe a date night with Mr NLI if there is one.
October 17, 2023 at 7:31 pm #275507Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, and you are certainly good at it Awaywego. Our hobby and supporting Scunthorpe United is a large part of our lives. Being in our 70’s now and my husband nearer 80 and disabled means to go to Gainsborough he would have to have a guaranteed seat. I take offence at your sarcastic remarks.
October 17, 2023 at 7:49 pm #275509I’d guess it’s at GP,no news in this case means negotiation. It’s frustrating but when you consider how toxic our fan base has got it’s best to wait and see .I genuinely believe no news is good news. I have a nose for these things.

October 17, 2023 at 8:31 pm #275514And i take offence at your continuing whining, remember we had it before buying your season ticket, you obviously took the risk and maybe it’s come back to bite you and many more including me, plenty said not to get one and you didn’t listen, probably karma with me never being an home fan first season ticket ever and all that.
October 17, 2023 at 9:48 pm #275520Yes we chose to buy season tickets and that is not the issue we have. The issue is that away supporters are having more information regarding what is happening with our hometown clubs fixtures than our own supporters. It’s embarrassing.
October 17, 2023 at 10:10 pm #275521If information is being leaked by Spennymoor then it’s not the fault of the club.
The national league want to hang their heads in shame over this. This scenario was always happening this season since the agreement with Swann fell through in May.
October 17, 2023 at 11:10 pm #275522But away supporters are not getting more information are they? Hence the OP.
Just rumours being bandied about like we’ve been experiencing all year.

October 18, 2023 at 7:46 am #275525It is a delicate situation. Whilst it is not ideal given we have a game on Tuesday, trust me when I say that Michelle and the rest of the board are working tirelessly to secure the stadium and the future of SUFC.
I have been into the club a couple of times to discuss the GoFundMe distribution and have seen it first hand.
The day before the deal went through was surreal and I genuinely left the club thinking it was all over. A lot of excellent work has been done since then and there are some really good people who care deeply about SUFC working every hour possible to pull this off.
If she does, it will be a huge achievement in such a short space of time. Let’s see what today brings…

October 18, 2023 at 11:49 am #275536Thank you for the Update Matt. Best wishes to The NEW Board. Must have been horrendous for them with everything they faced when gaining control.
October 18, 2023 at 12:06 pm #275539Confirmed next two home games will be played at GP whilst a deal for the stadium is still in the works.

October 18, 2023 at 1:15 pm #275545There we go a update from the club for the next 2 games, in plenty of time for home fans to sort themselves out whether to go or not, and hopefully gives the certainty to Spennymoor fans to come along as well, difficult times and we must cut the owners a bit of slack and not demand updates willy nilly.
