Kouogun 1, Evans 1, Nicholson 1.
I’d call it schoolboy defending but that would be unkind to schoolboys.October 26, 2024 at 8:03 pm #292338Nicholson he’s worthy of giving a goal away a game tbh.
October 26, 2024 at 8:23 pm #292339Nicholson despite a good start looks a disaster waiting to happen and was shocking for a 10min spell against Rushall when we quite easily could have conceded at least 1 goal.
If we’re playing 5 at the back for solidity and we’re getting done by 1 huge hoof then it’s not really doing it’s job, is it ?
I’d leave Nicholson out for Boyce and I’d be tempted to sell on Evans a bit further down the road. I’m not just saying that because of today, but I’ve been thinking it for a while. I don’t think he’s nasty/ruthless enough to be a dominant CB at this kind of level. No doubt he’d perform much better back in the national league.
Nicholson has gone completely downhill. Butler I dare to say has been somewhat found out after we stupidly offered to extend his contract. I don’t know who’s idea that was this early on, but it was credibly stupid.

October 26, 2024 at 11:02 pm #292341Well just got back and that was shite, 2-0 win to the iron at worse most comfortable half till they equalized, they came in our box just 3 times hardly came in our half of the field must have been 80/20 first half, how many times do we concede from a stupid backpass especially from Evans bloody bin him for good.
Whitehall scored and you thought really that’s that Southport were so poor but no we weren’t having any of that.
Can’t say we were defensive today with all that possession created enough to win 6-0 but just didn’t take them but like I said the 2 we did should have been enough.
Butler saying freaky conceding 3 and though couldn’t say we’re top of the league he says we’re still in a strong position what’s he bloody watching of late certainly not what I’ve been watching, with 2 home wins to come it’ll still only be papering over the cracks we need some new faces we need competition for places and we need it soon.
Butlers definitely starting to lose the room, fans talking at the station and there was very little positivity towards him or for giving him another contract.2 users thanked author for this post.
October 27, 2024 at 3:23 am #292352Curzon or Chorley may well be this seasons Tamworth .. can see them to pulling away at the top in the coming weeks.
Yesterday highlighted just how much we need a fox in the box striker quickly ..as teams know if they can put 2 or 3 on Roberts and give him a hard time thats our main threat nulified, Southport twigged and did just that from just before half time. Not sure you can blame AB for this one .. the lads were in full control playing well yet allowed the hosts 3 goals from their only 3 chances … embarassing, shambolic defending to blame on this occasion not formation or tactics.
Havent heard post match interviews yet but can pretty much imagine what sound bites they will contain.
Win the game in hand on Tuesday and things will look slightly better ..alas im not confident we will see top spot again and end up in the play offs or even just outside them.
Chester have fallen off a cliff lately yet we could only manage a draw which in some opinions was a good result …doesnt look that great now though after Curzon swished them aside at ease.

October 27, 2024 at 8:24 am #292359Awesome start to the season. Sussed early on. (Predictable.) Adjustments desperately needed. Adjustments not forthcoming. Managerial belief hardens into becoming wholly inflexible.
At current rate, we are unlikely to make the playoffs – not even close.
A season being wasted but at least the early season points should mean that we won’t be in any relegation trouble.1 user thanked author for this post.

Somebody needs to point out to Andy that even if we win 10-0 against Farsley we still don’t get back the 3 points we threw away yesterday.4 users thanked author for this post.
October 27, 2024 at 11:15 am #292373Defending from all 3 centre backs was pure comedy gold. We should probably remember that for 5 seasons that was pretty much the norm.
So far this season it has been very much the exception.
Evans by far the biggest culprit, the attempted back pass was poor but running into Nicholson who had their forward covered until he was flattened was priceless. The stupid booking that Evans got 2 minutes later for fouling a player who was running the ball over the line for a goal kick was idiotic. I would have subbed him immediately and surely deserves a club fine and a game or three on the bench.
Nicholson was next failing to cut out an aimless punt forward. Letting a simple headed clearance skim off his head slowed the ball just enough to turn a punt into a pass.
Not to be outdone, Kouogan who was having a fine game up until that point dawdled on the ball just outside the penalty area.
3 very basic errors from players that don’t normally make them is not a disaster – unless all 3 happen in the same game of course.
In the tradition of centre backs losing the plot Butler then decided to play substitution bingo and go long ball against a team we had dominated the football against.
Could we have a rule when we need a goal and go substitution crazy that our only 2 consistently creative players (Roberts and Beestin) are left on the pitch?
October 27, 2024 at 11:26 am #292375But if the computer says it’s time up then……….
October 27, 2024 at 11:32 am #292376Feck the computer. How many goals have we scored that did not involve Beestin and/ or Roberts?
October 27, 2024 at 12:17 pm #292380So three individual out of character mistakes cost us yesterday’s game, must be Butler’s fault then
October 27, 2024 at 3:02 pm #2923893 very basic errors from players that don’t normally make them
Nicholson had a ridiculous 10 min spell against Rushall, one mistake when he went to kick the ball and somehow managed to kick fresh air and if not for a poor finish that mistake would have cost us a goal. Sandwiched in between that was several other hairy moments.
When Evans ran into Nicholson, I mean that was ridiculous, but it has something to do with playing with 3 CB’s as they do tend to get in each others way. Solid to an extent, but they don’t really look confident playing in the system. It needs simplifying and changed to 4 at the back which will put them more at ease due to being more confident playing that system.
October 27, 2024 at 4:55 pm #292397Another little gripe played on an east west ground layout with a late autumn sun and the goalie doesn’t come out with a cap, most of us standing had arms above our eyes for shade, totally unprofessional imo, turned out in the end Fitz didn’t need one they never ventured directly in our half for him to be blinded, Roberts was the only one to have a dig in the second half but it went no where near the goal.
Fitz never had a save to make other than the ones for the 3 goals, there goalie pulled off quite a few.October 27, 2024 at 6:36 pm #292409Another game where we’ve taken the lead but failed to put them to bed. Seems we either set up to defend for our lives and can’t score, or attack more and leak sloppy goals. The conceded goals was atrocious defending from those at fault. All three centre halves making dreadful mistakes in the same game, uncharacteristically so for Evan’s and Max, is that a coincidence or lack of belief in the team / manager / system?
October 27, 2024 at 6:41 pm #292410Also Nicholson should have been dropped after he very nearly cost us V Rushall. Keeping his place in the team for his long throw only at this point, which is being more than nullified by his inability to pass a football.
October 27, 2024 at 7:07 pm #292412How many goals have we scored directly from the long throw?

October 27, 2024 at 7:40 pm #292414The same number as Boyce has scored himself. He should be back in.
But then again Tamworth had a long throw and they are seemingly Butlers blue-print for success.
October 27, 2024 at 7:50 pm #292416Chorley, Warrington, Oxford City we were a goal in front and started to play out for a one goal win and dropped 6 points with conceding a equaliser, yesterday we twice took the lead after being well on top but whether we thought we would only have to see out the game instead of going for more I don’t know, I watched the Needham Market game on NLTV, and it was one way traffic until we got the penalty, then in the remainder of the game we could have thrown it away, and they hit the woodwork
October 28, 2024 at 3:09 am #292438The system is too negative. Shrimpton can play a bit in CM as can Brogan, but never really get a chance. All Butler seems to care about is having 3 big lump CB’s on the pitch and that doesn’t really work, but they tend to get in each others way. I like Scales energy, but has no composure when it comes to finishing chances.
I’d try him as a winger personally. I still think the best he looked was when played those games at RWB. Not keen on him in CM. Especially not as a two man central midfield partnership. As a 3 man probably, but not with Clunan. No good when it comes to getting shots on target and despite his energy he’s too small to a be a midfield wrecker.
I suspect he would work as winger as he looked good bombing down the right as a wing back and hasn’t got a bad cross on him.
October 29, 2024 at 10:28 am #292485Just got around to watching the match highlights from the match…. My god, that was possibly the worst ever display of what could laughably termed as defending!
There’s tighter defences in Division 6 of the Cornwall & District Ginster Pastie League.
October 29, 2024 at 11:02 am #292486My kinda league. Wonder if the give away free pasties at half time as loss leaders?
