    Looks a tidy set up.
    6,008 capacity.

    The Big Help Stadium

The Club being owned since Oct 2023 by The Big Help Group (Southport Statement)

Who Are The Big Help Group

The Sandgrounders were founded in 1888 – 136 years ago.

One of the founding members of the newly formed Football League Third Division North upon its inception in 1921.
They were members of the Football League from 1921 to 1978 at which point they weren’t re-elected.
Re-election… seems a lifetime ago! (Closed shop, blah, blah)

Haigh Avenue (Formerly known as Ash Lane [1905–1921]) has been their home since 1905.
The street and the ground itself were officially renamed Haig Avenue after Earl Haig in 1921.
Sefton Council (freeholder) own the ground.

The Club’s record attendance is 20,010 which occurred twice:

    1) Newcastle United in the fourth round of the FA Cup in 1932
    2) Everton in a 1968 FA Cup tie.
Their best FA Cup performance was in 1930-31 when they reached the 1/4 Finals.
They were losing (Old) Wembley finalists in the FA Trophy in 1997–98, Cheltenham Town taking the trophy 1-0.

The current grandstand was opened in August 1968, two years after the original main stand had burnt down.

Having a day at the beach to cool down its 40 degrees here so an early prediction.

JD pre match interview will include ” its a tough game”

Not sure re Southports attacking options with Carver n Bennett both not playing expect another defensive set up to counter attack… FEELING THEY WILL NICK A GOAL…that said so will we for a score prediction of 1-1..

(hopefully we knock 2 in for a 2-1 Scunny win)

Another team that will rise to the occasion of playing the mighty Iron, the ref will no doubt support their efforts. Will our players put the effort it? Yes then we get a point and the JD Spennymoor interview, if not we get the JD Darlington interview. Don’t see us winning and Chorley pull further away.

    Current form:

    Southport
    P8 W4 D3 L1 GF13 GA6 GD+7 Pts15

    Iron
    P8 W4 D2 L2 GF12 GA7 GD+5 Pts14

Bank holidays always throw up some strange scores – this could be one of them.
It wouldn’t surprise me if we saw something like:

    SP 3-0 Iron 60/1
    SP 1-5 Iron 50/1

    Iron H2H at Southport:
    P15 W2 D8 L5 GF22 GA31 GD-9 Pts14

    14 points from a potential 45.

However the stats and history has it looking like it’ll be another draw.

    Southport 1-1 Iron 11/2

If we’ve eaten too many Easter eggs then it could be worse:

    Southport 2-1 Iron 14/1

Just seen an absolute cracker from Iron Stats on Twitter.

We have not won a game in April for 6 years.

Bodes well for our play off chances.

    I think it’ll be a 1-1 draw – I’d take that rather than a 0-0 bore draw.

Recalling happy days of a Friday night trip to Southport back in 1976. Me and three mates bombed up there in my old Ford Zephyr, saw a tidy enough game in which we came back with a point thanks to a Graham Collier equaliser. We were all happy as Larry on the way back singing and laughing till we realised I’d got on the M6 North and were only 80 miles from Carlisle. Yep we were green as grass back then but we sure had a laugh, got back into town around 1 in the morning, knackered but still laughing.

Aye and my map reading mate riding shotgun wasn’t much of a map reader after a few beers.

    Five changes today ?????

They have a game of musical chairs every Friday afternoon. The last eleven sitting start!

Another boring game. They are useless, can’t put 3 passes together.
    We’re not much better.

    I don’t think they’ve had a shot yet?

There was a thread titled something like – “NLN, what’s the standard of player”

    Something like this:

    NLN Player Skill Level

I was so confident that we would finish second but, yet again, the team have other plans.

    57 years and I still get surprised……

Michelle got lucky there avoided an hard decision on whether to stick or spin if we hadn’t won, I would have spun there’d have been nothing to lose imo.
Come the 4th of May I do hope I’m singing Jimmy deans barmy army for the first time.

    Phew, Pugh… he didn’t have a clue.
We need a proper clear out during the summer.
I don’t think there’s a single player whom is worth keeping?
They either can’t defend, can’t pass, have a poor end product, can’t stand up or can’t hit a barn door from a yard.
Does any of their contracts extend to the end of next season? Hopefully not.
    … Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb.

Whatever Hereford fans saw in Pugh, we certainly don’t see it in an Iron shirt…absolutely dreadful again!
