It doesn’t look good going into the World Cup, but can’t see the FA doing anything beforehand. There would be too much outrage after him getting us further than other coaches have. If we don’t do well, hopefully that will allow some critical analysis of his position. He’s a great man manager, but is tactically poor, as is evident when he has faced sides of equal or better quality.

Watching England is boring that’s what happens when you have a defender as manager sooner not loose that score goals it seams to me.

I actually thought that Italy were no better, they just happen to score a goal. Very dull game.

If Southgate thinks that was “A step in the right direction” then he’s deluded!

Didn’t watch it. Based on previous matches over the last few years though, it looks to me like he took England as far as he could a long time ago. There was definitely a need to shore up before he came in but his outlook and tactics can only stretch so far and neglects the potential of the attacking players talents.

One other team not to score a non penalty goal in 22/23 is San Marino.

Not watched them since 2010 WC.
    No interest in them.

We have a really talented squad of players including really good midfield players and attackers yet we continually play with the hand brake on, it seems to me anyway. It would be nice just to go out and have a proper go at teams from the off, the only time we looked full of intent and purpose was after we went a goal down. Just let them off the leash Gareth and give the fans some entertainment.

Southgate is playing football the FA way. The defensive shite is peddled at FA coaching schools.

That’s why we also play shite football. The only way to rid us of Southgate is to target those faceless imbeciles within the FA.

    “Vanilla” Southgate.
Said it three years ago… wasting the best crop of young players we’ve had for a while.
Look at the England Lionesses: they dont muck about doing tippy tappy triangles in their own half, nor do they stop attacking even 5-0 up, let alone 1-0.

The Lionesses are better to watch in more ways than one, I’m a huge fan and find them very entertaining. Their coach took over a talented group of players and knew straightaway just how to get the best out of them and yes it works very well.

How Scunthorpe United like was that last night?

Tappy-lapping around, concede two goals because your CB isn’t concentrating. Get back in it, go ahead, then concede another soft goal after a goalkeeping howler.

Taft could get a call up on that showing! 😂

Southgate insists on playing Maguire when it’s clear he’s out of form and confidence shot. It’s mad.

Maguire did well by his standards he passed the ball to the opposition and then tripped him up giving away a penalty. Only did it one though mind !

    Southgate needs binning off.

At least when Saka came on he played him in the position he has been so effective for Arsenal this season. Saka and Mount coming on made all the difference and but for two howlers by Maguire and Pope, England would have won playing some half decent football. Bellingham is going to be an absolute star for England if he’s allowed just to play, him and Grealish could rule in that team for years to come.

Southgate has to learn from the way he set them up and instructed them first half. Unless the players just couldn’t be arsed? Got to start on the front foot, get at em, commit men forward, keep shape, etc. No defence for Maguire, ffs. Pickford should be back for the WC so that’s a plus

Players know their own game, their strengths and how to best exploit them, they do it every week. If they are asked to do something different when playing for their country then it should be no surprise if they appear below par.
No comparison I know but we’ve seen similar at GP over recent seasons, square pegs and all that.

Dull as ditch watter Southgate has to go .. with this current crop of extraordinary talent need a progressive attack minded manager not this FA yes man who is tactically inept and overly reliant on defence…oh but he speaks well on camera ..yippee fookin doo !!

If he were to be sacked TOMORROW .. with the WC coming up who could replace him ??? that is the question ..alas hes here to stay until we suffer a bad WC in Qatar and he will then be replaced .

You could tell in the last few games they were under instruction (except Maguire who was probably told ‘you can play just don’t knock anything over’) Kane looked lost and got deeper and deeper. Really dull but you can see the talent is there when we attack its just that Gareth doesn’t like to attack very often. It will be a frustrating WC
