Evans is an improvement on Boyce and I have to say from what I’ve seen so far, Kelly looks a tad better going forward and more solid defensively than Denton. I’d keep Kelly and Evans in personally.
Carlton will need another few games to get up to speed. To say he was rusty against South Shields is an understatement of epic proportions.

August 27, 2024 at 9:27 am #290128On YouTube the South Shields manager isn’t exactly magnanimous in defeat!
Sounded like the classic interview from a guy who’s team were comfortably controlled by the opposition for most of the game but despite his team being beaten they are still the prettiest side in the league to watch. Whatever mate, it’s not always about winning the pretty way it’s about winning and if his team only know one way to play then he’s going to be disappointed again this season.

Sounded like Ron Greenwood’s West Ham.
August 27, 2024 at 10:11 am #290130Reckon their keeper, centre backs and right wing back had over 50% of their possession but it was possession without intent.
A lot of their play was a bit like watching us at times last season.
That’s a testament to Butler in that case, had us set up solidly so that they couldn’t find a way to break us down. And as you say, tapping it around aimlessly at the back is exactly what we’d have been doing last season under Dean. The South Shields manager thinks he’d rather watch his team than us but having watched us play incredibly dull football under Dean, I’m all in favour of Butler’s approach.

August 27, 2024 at 11:13 am #290131I’m all for it personally. Might not be pretty and when it doesn’t work it’s a double blow but makes a refreshing change to watch us more direct and physical. Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen it from the Iron but hate to see any opposition doing it to us. I bet Tim Lovejoy would prefer ‘Jimmyball’.

August 27, 2024 at 11:18 am #290132I tend to agree but am not ready to fully endorse AB. Don’t want to see too many games like Chorley and NM.
3 games like SS or Brackley every four games or so and my grin will turn magically into a broad smile.August 27, 2024 at 11:47 am #290133I’m all for it personally. We all like silky passing football and I thought our second goal yesterday was a terrific one but I find Spain-style passive possession incredibly dull to watch. Get it in the mixer! We’ve got a range of tools at our disposal this season, it’s not just Jimmy’s way or the highway.

August 27, 2024 at 12:05 pm #290134Too unsure that Chorley/NM football would bring that outcome.

But harsh on Whitehall, bringing up his big ears and extra long nose, there’s nose need for it.

August 27, 2024 at 4:56 pm #290141Well what a sad loser the South Shields manager is – if his players were that good it must have been his tactics that allowed us to win !
You do what you have to do, we did and scored 2 conceded 0 therefore we got 3pts and they got none.

August 27, 2024 at 5:18 pm #290143One of the strangest post match manager interviews ive seen seemed frustrated almost to tears … little man syndrome , wife wears the trousers and wet the bed as a child.
The man is a Dick ..as they say in Geordie land Y i hes a Dickman.
August 27, 2024 at 5:37 pm #290146Bloke’s a more coherent but equally deluded Dean clone; from the North East.
August 27, 2024 at 5:39 pm #290148After watching that it’s good to know that:-
We have easily beaten the best footballing team in the league.
South Shields have absolutely no interest in slowing the game down if they are in front. (yeah right!!)
Some managers cannot accept blame.1 user thanked author for this post.
August 27, 2024 at 5:43 pm #290150‘We have easily beaten the best footballing team in the league.’ First time I’ve laughed all day. Very droll.
August 27, 2024 at 6:10 pm #290152I’m guessing after such a comfortable away win the previous game he was expecting better from his superstars at home, seeing his boys beaten so comfortably by a team seemingly in control for the majority of the game must have really unnerved him. Bless, a cup of tea and a bit of his Mums homemade fruit cake and he’ll be as good as new.
August 27, 2024 at 6:31 pm #290154Their keeper was booked in their previous game for time wasting. Sadly everyone does it and much better refs than the NLN throws up are unwilling or unable to stop it.
I thought Jimmy was a bit delusional at times but that fella takes the biscuit. 15 passes between your centre backs and goalie before one of them hoofs it forward does not constitute good football and rarely delivers winning football.
August 27, 2024 at 8:39 pm #290160Just read the match report from their OWS, they’re not giving us much credit either.
“The first goal of the afternoon came when Michael Kelly pinged his long-ranger into the box with fine precision. After it came off Ubaezuonu and, later, Danny Whitehall, North East native Roberts was there to volley it in. Although Shields put up a good fight, the game was put beyond any doubt shortly before the final whistle. Kelly whipped another cross into the box, and just like the first it came off Whitehall before it found Beestin who only needed to head it home.”“Came off Whitehall” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. Whitehall’s shot hit the post.
2. Whitehall headed the ball back across perfectly for Beestin.
Whoever wrote that is as deluded as the manager.August 28, 2024 at 2:21 pm #290172After listening to him on YouTube, the only conclusion I could come to is that he is, delusional or I was watching a different game. After 3 games at home. Lost 2 won 1. Their fans must really love him.
August 28, 2024 at 4:00 pm #290174Long may the winding up of these managers continue.
August 28, 2024 at 5:37 pm #290180Let’s hope Friday it’s tango man justifying how his “better team” lost 3-0.
August 28, 2024 at 5:55 pm #290182As long as he doesn’t start singing.
August 28, 2024 at 6:08 pm #290186Remember when tango man was Southend manager and we beat his lot 4-0 at GP, he looked rather forlorn and pissed off slumped in the dugout, hope it’s a repeat Friday night.
