Can we break the hoodoo and actually win a game in the north east of the country?
Watched the highlights of their 4-1 win at Oxford. Could have been 5-5 with some decent finishing.
August 25, 2024 at 7:51 pm #290048August 25, 2024 at 8:53 pm #290051Yeah I’d take a draw tomorrow and a win next Friday night, four points from the next two games would be an excellent return looking at the opposition we face.
August 25, 2024 at 10:59 pm #2900551-0 to us. Let’s keep the run going.
August 25, 2024 at 11:19 pm #290056Got to be looking to put the disappointment of Chorley behind us and really go for the win. Wing backs higher up the pitch as per Brackley.
2 games in 48 hours is a strain too so would expect a few changes; heard good things about Rowley behind the scenes so eager to see him get some game time.
Sheilds 2-1 Iron
440 travelling faithfulAugust 26, 2024 at 9:44 am #290059I’ve not seen us win away since before Covid.
Just saying like!

Yep same here… how ever it happens 4 points from the next 2 fixtures would be excellent.
Im going for a score draw tonight.
August 26, 2024 at 10:34 am #290063Don’t hold your breath NI.
Your “local” games were what cost us the league title and Dean his job last season.
Blyth
South Shields
Spennymoor
Darlington
Scarborough15 points at home with 20 goals for and 3 against.
2 points away with 2 goals for and 8 against.
Hopefully Butler will be a bit braver away from home.

August 26, 2024 at 11:25 am #290065Guess WG is sulking somewhere he really hates to be wrong, no comment since his last post wanting Carlton to replace Whitehall is hatred of Whitehall knows no bounds he was the same last season wanting Elliot to replace him, I really don’t get it we all have our favorites but surely we should want all our players to succeed i certainly wanted Carlton to do the bizz if he’d have come on an scored an hat-trick that’s good for us all, but i guess not for WG and he’s not alone either.
Nothing but a win will do today draws win you sod all.August 26, 2024 at 12:23 pm #290066I see according to the OWS we are playing the South Shields in East Anglia today.
Hope the 400 or so haven’t set off in the wrong direction. Still we might snatch a win if we’re not playing in the north east.
August 26, 2024 at 2:34 pm #290074Whall , Charlton and Roberts all start… Kelly in , Beestin on bench quite a shake up ..still no Shrimpton.
Scales and Clunan gonna be very busy tonight.
STICKING WITH MY SCORE DRAW PREDICTION
August 26, 2024 at 4:59 pm #290079SOOOO professional!!
Super, AB!3 users thanked author for this post.
August 26, 2024 at 5:04 pm #290080In Butler we trust! A controlled, dominant performance, at least judging by the radio coverage. God it makes such a pleasant change to have a proper manager in charge this season.

August 26, 2024 at 5:06 pm #290081Was starting to think NI was a jinx but that’s put to bed now.
About as straight forward as tricky away games get. Well done Butlers boys.
Top of the table clash Friday then.
The stream commentators mangling of Iron names was almost as entertaining as the match.

August 26, 2024 at 5:17 pm #290082Great result lets have a big crowd Friday and win it.
Read on tuther side Carlton had a shiter missed 3 good chances and we still win 2-0, stick with him Butler hopefully he just needs match time before he comes good.
Couldn’t believe the line up well done Butler you certainly showed intent heard he used the subs better today as well, winner winner chicken dinner.August 26, 2024 at 5:22 pm #290085I was right about Beestin maybe getting rested. Better than my 1-1 prediction anyway, thankfully.
August 26, 2024 at 5:25 pm #290086Excellent result, decent performance, very disciplined, very energetic out of possession. Agree with AWG, Carlton could/should have had three and a couple of other good chances missed. Would have made watching much more enjoyable bearing in mind what happened on Saturday.
August 26, 2024 at 5:27 pm #290087Carlton is short of real match fitness. Today will have helped.
Evans my MOTM. Great forward play by Whitehall.4 users thanked author for this post.
August 26, 2024 at 5:34 pm #290088Wasn’t from me Cass I only read it from someone else, better to be there to miss than not be there at all. Didnt cost all is good.
August 26, 2024 at 5:41 pm #290089No doubt iron414 will be along soon to tell anyone happy that they’re living in dreamland because anyone who knows anything knows that we’re bound to finish midtable at best, because we don’t play like prime Barcelona in regionalised football.
August 26, 2024 at 6:19 pm #290091That was a much more comfortable watch than last season’s away offerings. Masterclass in how to control the game without the ball. On chances could have won 6-2 but Fitzsimons shows his value again with a great save at a crucial time. Subs more sensibly used, and Whitehall along with Evans battling for MOTM. UTI

August 26, 2024 at 6:56 pm #290100Bloody Hell I wasn’t comfortable watching it, especially the second half. Allowed them to have far too much of the ball. Ultimately however, they did nowt with their possession apart from the attempt that Fitz saved low down.
The league’s top two scorers from last season on the pitch and Whitehall edged it. Just wish he’d keep his gob shut. Another needless booking.
Evans my MOM but really liking Nicholson. Agree re: Carlton. Rustier than the spanners at the back of my garage. Hopefully he’ll sharpen up over the next few games.
Excellent win nevertheless. UTI

August 26, 2024 at 7:26 pm #290104Great result, not as great a performance but won’t be grumbling too much after our poor performances in the NE last season. We pressed really well when SS were trying to play it out from the back but when they had it in the final third I thought we allowed them too much space and time on the ball.
He didn’t score but that was one of Whitehall’s best games in an Iron shirt. If we didn’t mess up the final pass a couple of times we could have easily scored 4 or 5. Looking forward to the game under Friday night lights now!

August 26, 2024 at 7:48 pm #290107Reckon their keeper, centre backs and right wing back had over 50% of their possession but it was possession without intent.
A lot of their play was a bit like watching us at times last season.

August 26, 2024 at 7:56 pm #290109I know we’re not short of MFs but I was impressed by Middlemas for SS. Checked him out and he’s on loan from Sunderland until 22nd September. Wouldn’t mind having him for the rest of the season.

August 26, 2024 at 8:02 pm #290110Good call Cass. Comfortably their best player today.
August 26, 2024 at 8:52 pm #290115Team bus had a window smashed by South Shields fans, points deduction or a fine in the offing?
August 26, 2024 at 9:21 pm #290117Cracking result; thought we allowed them far too much possession for periods in the second half and made it harder than it should’ve been- performance to forget for Carlton but minutes in the bank.
Hell of a lot of positives too take: Roberts looked much more convincing in the 10 role and Evans replaced an impressive Boycey effortlessly. Pleased to see us pressing further up the field and looking more direct with our play.
MOTM for me was Whitehall, perhaps overly critical of him sometimes but today was a proper centre forward performance. Kelly also has impressed and will feel aggrieved to not be starting against Kiddy.
Another solid turnout from the Iron faithful too- 500 travelled. Be great to see a 5,000 crowd now on Friday

August 26, 2024 at 9:32 pm #290118On YouTube the South Shields manager isn’t exactly magnanimous in defeat!
August 26, 2024 at 10:15 pm #290120Nice to go to a game where the focus is on the football for once. Roj and his lad came out pre match to speak to the fans, plenty on the terracing, pints being sunk no trouble at all.
On the pitch we were excellent, Scales unlucky to score with his dipped shot before we did score after about 2-3 potshots on goal. after a few wasted chances we wrapped up the points. South Shields looked a shadow of their side last season, i saw their budget has been reduced?
There were a few youngsters hanging round the ground when i came out so that could be the reason for the bus having its windows being put in.
