If Carver and Bennett are doing so well at Southport then why aren’t they with us.Those two have got to be better than Whitehall (who is a joke) and Elliott

I suspect that, just like Torpey, Whitehall “does things you can’t see”…

Torpey was in the centre backs face constantly and held the ball up by being strong and aggressive, Whitehall is none of those things IMO.

I wasn’t really comparing him to Torpey.

Fair enough Apollo 11, LBH, Whitehall is a pale shadow of Steve Torpey in the role he is playing for us this season, no comparison whatsoever, he is not a good target man type player and needs to be part of a pair up top to be effective enough IMO.

I do like Whitehall, but I completely agree with you. I would like to see him in a partnership with some short-arsed terrier who scores 15 to 20 goals per season.

Whitehall reminds me a little of Tom Hooper in the sense that he’s got the size and physicality to play that role but hasn’t got the mentality. Hopper won very little in the air and didn’t have the mindset to allow him to back in, bully and hold the ball up and like Whitehall his strength was really ball into feet.

I think actually thinking back Hopper played that role a little better and won a bit more in the air.

I wouldn’t be against Elliot playing and getting a run of games now as at least when he came on last night he gave their CB’s problems. I should imagine with games he’ll start scoring.

Whitehall needs a spell out now and Elliot needs his shot.

So we managed to get the 3 points, but it should have been a lot more convincing if we had put away a few of the chances. As fat as I can see, Whitehall is a waste of time, all he seems to concentrate on is diving looking for free kicks and some of the chances he misses are unreal. It was a differeny team after Elliot and Roberts came on, and why Jimmy selects Whitehall over Elliot is hard to take.

As I said, a nice 3 points collected, and most of the other results going our way, it was a good nights work. By the way what was the attendace at the game, was my 3,243 anyway near ut???

Another 3 points wanted on Saturday, in a game that should be winable.

Ref – four notches below the dizzy heights of average!
    Inconsistency was unbelievable.
No red for the thug at the end? – 2/10.

Just listened to Jim Bentley’s post match interview.
“Referee was exceptional, one of the best we’ve had”

    Funny old game innit?

Exceptional can mean, quote. not like most others of the same type; unusual.
So was Bentley’s reference in the positive or the negative?
Do we give him the benefit of the doubt?

    Naah!

That ref was shite and the fact he was from Southport area didn’t help. That tackle at the end should have been a straight red and he only gave us 2 or 3 free kicks in the second half even though their cb’s nearly pulled the shirt of Elliot’s back at least twice and never gave a thing.

Linesmen where crap as well. No surprise their gaffer liked the officials.

I thought they could have had a pen first half when Fitz went walkabout and their player got past him but I didn’t have a good view of what exactly happened. As Cliff Byrne’s Right Peg said Boyce clearly pushed their striker just over the halfway line and their assistant manager was berating the linesman over at least a couple of decisions. If Bentley is happy with that then fair enough ! Sums this league up.

Fitzsimons never touched their player after Max’s suicidal back pass.

“if Bentley is happy with that then fair enough”

Did you not see the rubbish they were getting away with in comparison to us ?

One of the worst refs we’ve had this season.

WG, Max’s suicidal back pass was 2nd half, I said about something I saw first half half with Fitzsimons, if you actually read what I put.
The ref was shite and he was shite for them as well (yes they got away with more because they are a team of shithouse experts like all these teams and know better than us how bad the refs are !) my point was if Bentley thinks that ref is excellent then Bentley can think that as he came out of it with zero, zilch, nothing.

I do sorta feel that the supply to Whitehall is not really up to par.

With Smith and Law supporting Whitehall and both being on the’wrong’ side they are always likely to cut inside and shoot rather than put a cross into the box, clearly JD’s plan. With no wide MFs any crosses are likely to come from FB. Denton’s crosses have a tendency to go straight into the net (good) and so meaningful delivery from wide will always be limited. Slide rule passes from Butters on the deck are unlikely to stick to Whitehall IMO.

We had a manager trying to force him out – Tom won that war. Lyle Taylor, Tom Hopper and Kyle Wootton all forced out or given away cheaply and we have never replaced them.

Steve Torpey in his pomp would have loved this division, he would have already kicked, elbowed and smashed the Iron to a ten point lead by now.
