Edit: this was meant to be a quote reply to an earlier post, but I can’t work your forum!
It’s an interesting discussion. The national league seems to get stronger year after year, and with the EFL’s sphincter being so tight it takes something special to crawl back inside.
There are some very strong sides down there now, and look at the trouble Hollywood FC are having getting back up despite big money signings like Mullin and co. Wrexham famously finished on 98 points and still failed to go up. Us (Tranmere) did the same on 95 points.
I can’t say I envy you guys. It’s high time it went to three up, three down I think.

August 20, 2022 at 10:27 pm #243107In fairness, apart from
Failing to deal with long balls, Solihull looked a good side. Better than half the garbage in League 2their number 5, 7, 10 were impressive to watch and should be playing at a higher standard.

August 20, 2022 at 10:36 pm #243110Yes we did beat Solihull .But not in the league .They did the double over Grimsby and were the best footballing side I saw at Blundell park .Have kept most of their squad from last year and added Josh Kelly .National League is very hard full of ups and downs .But those that say that’s it you must keep your support up as hard as it is at times

August 20, 2022 at 10:42 pm #243111They were a good footballing side today granted, but tbh they didn’t need to try that hard to turn round a 3 goal deficit against a poor Iron. To be fair they could have had 5 or 6 goals but for some sloppy finishing

August 21, 2022 at 8:33 am #243131Well you’re getting value for your season ticket, you saw 7 goals.
August 21, 2022 at 8:43 am #243133but if you go 3-0 up and then concede it doesn’t help shutting up shop and inviting pressure, because as soon as we concede one goal another comes soon after, and yesterday it happened twice.
at least I don’t think anyone has blamed George Taft, though it would probably have made more sense if Taft had come on for Dan Gallimore when it was 3-2 late on because the lad messed up 3 clearances in quick time and you could see he was knackered, but when we did make a substitution, can’t remember offhand but was Butterfield taken off for Carver at 3-3 or 4-3 but a strange one taking experience off instead of youth again with Gallimore, couldn’t the coaching staff see he was struggling
the writing was on the wall with me when Alfie Beestin came off and that is no disrespect to Whitehouse but any attacking intent went from that point.

August 21, 2022 at 9:03 am #243137Just before their second, I saw one of our lads in an advanced position get, what looked very much like a heavy ‘clop aboot the heed’ with an arm. One second later the ball was in the net.
It never occurred to me that the goal would be allowed.
Was I seeing things coz few reacted?Incidentally, finicky annoying ref. 4/10
As for Beestin coming off – there will surely have been a valid reason. In a decent CM – he is starting to show what he can do.
August 21, 2022 at 9:25 am #243143I wasn’t blaming them for subbing Alfie because he was starting to flag, but he was replaced by a more defensive player and the attacking threat went.
August 21, 2022 at 11:04 am #243154Thought I saw him hobbling for a bit before he came off. Maybe he’d taken a knock and did look knackered. Yes, ineffective sub though.
August 21, 2022 at 11:22 am #243157It becomes more obvious each game that Hill is clueless. He takes off two experienced midfielders Butterfield and Beestin and leaves Gallimore on, who looks out of his depth to me. At times he looked lost and you can see he still has a lot to learn. He should have been the first midfielder to be subbed. Beeston just prior to being subbed was getting into the attack and playing some neat football but after he was subbed the attacking play had gone. It should be Hill who gets gone with Swann!!!!

August 21, 2022 at 11:52 am #243165Look at when their goals were scored.
Last five minutes of the first half and last ten minutes of the second.
For how many years have we been conceding goals in this fashion?
And under how many managers?
August 21, 2022 at 2:43 pm #243183I think the answer is ‘loads’. What’s the prize?
August 21, 2022 at 2:55 pm #243188Not three points, obviously!
August 21, 2022 at 5:16 pm #243216I wasn’t at the game yesterday but saw us at Maidenhead. Omalley seems to be being criticised but at Maidenhead he was left 2 on 1 for the first two goals. Left side of midfield was absent. Playing out from the back with the present central defenders seems the triumph of hope over experience. Solidity in midfield and some belief and commitment seem the way forward but I fear the worst at present.

The entire season will be extremely difficult without further recruitment ASAP.

Think it’ll actually be 1-2 at the end of 90mins.
They were 40/1 after 80 minutes…
Nice if you get in it.
